CONTAINING The substance of all Informations received in cases of Felony, and, of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses, for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to ME. Simmonds, Sharnbrook, Beds, who holds the war- rant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, January 30. Description of WALSTON SADDLER, labourer, who absconded from Felthorpe, Norfolk, on the 26th inst.,- charged with attempting to fire a pistol at Christiana Wighton, on the night of the 24th instant, in Cossey Park : he is 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, light brown hair, large blue eyes, no whiskers, scar on one cheek, makes a snuffling noise with his nose when speaking ; dressed when last seen, in a brown velve- teen frock coat, light beverteen trousers and waistcoat, black chummy hat; he is most likely to go to Ipswich, London, or into Kent; has been accustomed to work in gardens.. £ 1 reward, and all reasonable expenses will be paid for his ap- prehension. Information to be given to Mr. Chief Superinten- dent Atthill, Norfolk Constabulary, Norwich, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 30. engraved on back, maker Griffin, Cornhill. By a man, 25 years of age, tall and stout, fresh complexion ; dress, dark In- verness cape and hat.— Metropolitan Police, C Division, Janu- ary 30. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, about 7' 30 p. m. on the 24th instant, in Back Piccadilly, Manchester, a gold hunt- ing Watch, maker's name, Oliphant and Botsford, Manchester, No. 7513, had attached a gold Albert Guard, gold Seal, and gold Key. Any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves, and recovery of the watch, shall receive £ 5 reward. Information to be given to Mr. Thomas Anderton, Superintendent of Police, C Division, Police Station, Fairfield- street, Manchester; or at any of the Police Stations in the City of Manchester.— Bow- January 30, MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Description of a man committed for trial at the next assizes to be held at Lincoln, on a charge of cutting and wounding. He gave his name CHARLES ROBERT HENRY JAMES, of Oxford, Clerk, and has been officiating as curate at the parish of South Kelsey for eight or nine weeks, about 56 years of age, 5 feet inches high, iron grey hair, small whiskers, long thin face very much wrinkled, small dull grey eyes, irregular teeth stained from tobacco, slenderly made, round shouldered, and very shabbily dressed ( not at all like a clergyman) : is very much addicted to drinking and smoking, and is fond of talking about hunting, shooting, fighting, & c. It is suspected that , he has been previously convicted or is concerned in other offences, probably fraud. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent T. Barsby, County Police Station, ' Market Rasen, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, February 11. Decription of JAMES CASBOLT, a native of Balsham, Cambridgeshire, who is charged ( with two others, who are in custody), with night poaching and maliciously wounding a gamekeeper, in a wood belonging to General Hall, at Weston Colvill: about 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, pale complexion, light brown hair, his ears have been pierced for rings, and he may be wearing a small pair; dressed, when he absconded, in a blue pilot coat, dark trousers, black cap, and blucher boots. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Charles Yeo, Linton, Cambridgeshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 9. Description of JAS. PANGBOURNE, alias WALKER, a carman, charged with causing the death of Chas. Champion, on the 27th of December last, in Nine Elms- lane, Lambeth : 35 years of age, 6 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark complexion and hair, black whiskers, teeth out in front, round shouldered, he stoops when walking, slouching gait; dress, cord jacket and trousers, or suit of black with black hat, a native of St. Alban's. — Metropolitan Police, V Division, February 4. Absconded from Appleton, in the county of Chester, on the 26th ultimo, charged with stabbing with a knife one John Noon, from the effects of which he is not expected to recover, JAMES MULLIGAN, about 30 years of age, short in stature, stout make, burn mark on the corner of one eye and cheek, one hand wrapped up, said to have a bustian on the finger, dark hair, and dressed in a white slop, with a pea jacket over it; and MICHAEL MULLIGAN, short and stout, young looking, much pockmarked, fresh ruddy complexion, dark hair, and had on a jacket, slop, and light cord trousers; they are both farm labourers. A warrant for their apprehension is in the hands of Superintendent Andrews, Lymm, near Warrington, Cheshire, to whom information is to be givgn.— Bow- street, February 1. Description of three men against whom a warrant fiill been issued, charging them with having, on the 21st instant, at the parish of Yielding, in the county of Bedford, discharged a gun at Thomas Cook, a game watcher, with intent to do him grievous bodily injury. JOHN DRAPER, of Wimmington, Beds, shoemaker, about 30 years of age, 5 teet 9 or 10 inches high, dark brown hair, blue eyes, whiskers inclined to be sandy, and dressed in a light drab long coat, cord trousers, lace- up boots, and light cap; JOHN DESBOROUGH, of Wimmington, Beds, labourer, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark hair and eyes, short dark whiskers meeting under the chin, and dressed in a long dark coat, supposed to have a brown slop underneath, cord trousers, lace- up boots, and black billycock hat; and THOMAS CHILDS RUSHDEN, of Northamptonshire, labourer, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, hair inclined to be sandy, small sandy whiskers, fair complexion, very small eyes, a small piece off the bottom of one of his ears, the remainder of which curls a little up- wards. They are all known poachers, have two guns with them, and visit low public- houses and lodging- houses; Draper ARSON AND WILFUI. BURNING. On the evening of the 18th instant, some person or persons wilfully set fire to a rick of Hay, the property of Mr. John Packwood, situate near the Fox Gate, in the parish ot Broms- grove. whereby the whole was destroyed. £ 100 reward will be paid to any person who shall give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender ( or offenders, and in addi- tion thereto, Sir George Grey will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice not being the person'who actually set fire to the property, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to the conviction of the guilty party. Information to be given to Mr. John Bevan, Super- intendent of Police, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.— Brno- street, February 9. Between 5 and 6 p. m. on the 29th ultimo a fire broke out in a stack of seed clover, at Puttenden Farm, Lingfield, Surrey, which was nearly consumed, the property of Mr. T. Russell. Supposed to be the act of an incendiary. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent A. H. Bungard, Surrey Con- stabulary, Godstone.— Bow- street, February 2. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen on the 7th instant, from the person of Mr. Ellwood, 18, Arlington- street, Piccadilly, whilst passing into Drury Lane Theatre a gold duplex Watch, No. 587, maker Peter Orr.— Metropolitan Police, F Division, February 11. Supposed to have been stolen from the person of a gentle- man, at Reigate, Surrey, on the 5th instant, a gold Watch, enamel face, gold and second hands, makers' Barraud and Sund, 41, Cornhill, No. 2 | 3781. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent C. H. Coward, . Surrey Constabulary, Reigate.— Bow- street, February 9. THOMAS DODD and WILLIAM DODD, advertised in the Police Gazettes of December 1st and 26th, 1862, charged with assault and highway robbery at Little Wenlock. in the county of Salop, are still at larae. A reward of £ 2 12s. fid. each will be paid ( upon conviction), to any person who will give such information as shall lead to their apprehension, in addition to all reasonable expenses incurred. Information to be eiven to Mr. Richardson, Superintendent of Police, Wellington, Salop.— Bow- street, February 6. Stolen about 9.40 p. m. on the 4th instant, from the person of a lad, in the bcrough of Oldham, Lancashire, by two men, a blue cloth Jacket with small patches of black on both enffs and left elbow, having a red pocket- handkerchief with white spots in one of the pockets, and a black pilot cloth vest, made to button up to the neck, covered buttons, having a white handled knife with two blades in one of the pockets. Information to be given at the Police Office, Town Hall, Oldham, Lancashire.— Bow- street, February 6. Stolen on the morning of the 1st instant, from the person of a gentleman in Manchester, a silver lever Watch, with sunk seconds, cream coloured dial, ' Charles Barnett,' engraved inside the outside case. No. 1106. Any person giving such informa- tion as may lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property shall receive £ 5 reward, on appli- cation to Captain Palin, Chief Constable, Town Hall, King- st., Manchester.— Bow street, February 4. Further information relative to the lady' § gold Watch stolen from the premises at Warrington, on the night of the 28th ultimo. It has an engine- turned back, open face, gold dial, black figures, steel hands, horizontal movement, name of ' Dismore, ' Geneva,' on the dial, and ' Dismore, Liverpool,' engraved on the dome, No. 23914, stamped inside the case. Information to he given to the Chief Constable, Warrington. — Bow- street, February 2. Stolen from th'e person, on the night of the 28th instant, at Warrington, a lady's gold Watch, gold face, maker's name Dismore, Liverpool; and a gentleman's silver skeleton lever Watch, maker's name, William Funcock, Warrington, No. 74560. Information to be given to Mr. John S. Macmichael, Chief Constable, Warrington.— Bow- street, January 30. Stolen about 7' 15 p. m. on the 27th instant, from the person of Thomas Warman, of Somerset House, Carlton- road. Kilburn, while getting into an omnibus in Oxford- street, a gold open- face engine- turned duplex Watch, compensation balance, second hands, a ducal coronet and Prince of Wales's Feather BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between the hours of 5 and 8 p. m. on the 8th instant, thjB dwelling- house of Miss Webster was entered during the absence of the family, by means of skeleton keys, and the property stolen theiefrom, viz. : six silver Tea Spoons, marked ' T. R. W.'; a pair of silver Sugar Tongs, same mark; and five electro- plated ditto ; also about six Shillings in copper monies. Information to be given to Mr. J. Thomas, Head Constable, Borough Police Office, Dewsbury, York.— Bow- street, February 11. Betwten the hours of 8 p. m. on the 17th, and 7 a. m. on the 18th instant, during the absence of the family, the house of John Kirk, of Breeze Hill, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therefrom : a horizontal Geneva silver Watch, No. 18893, silver dial, and gold figures ; a patent lever silver Watch, No. 1773, with plain back ; a patent lever silver Watch, No. 16308, centre seconds, and sunk dial, and a silver link Guard attached ; six silver Teaspoons, marked ' J. B. K.'; and about twenty- two or twenty- three Shillings in money. £ 2 reward will be paid to any person who wil; ^ ive such infor- mation as will lead to the apprehension of the thief and re covery of the property, or in proportion to the amount re- covered, on application to Mr. J. Wetherell, Chief Constable, Oldham.— Bow- street, February 11. Stolen from the dwelling- house of a gentleman at Fair- field, during the night of the 4th or morning of the 5th inst., the following articles, viz.: a silver Butter Knife, with pearl handle; a Box of Mathematical Instruments ; a pearl Paper Knife, the handle in shape of a fawn's foot, and silver mounted. Pawnbrokers and others are requested to detain any person offering the same for pledge or sale. Information to be given at the Police Office, Bootle ; or Old Swan ; or the Central Police Office, Dale- street, Liverpool.— Bow- street, February 9. Further information relative to the burglary at the house of Miss Thompson, at Sevenoaks, on the night of the 2nd instant, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 4th instant. There was also stolen an Australian gold Ring, with a ruby in it; a small silver Fruit Knife; and a black single Opera Glass, mounted with silver, and is broken. The number of one of the notes is-' ® 51586. Manchester, 1/ 28/ 1862. Signed W. Gattie.' Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent < olman, Sevenoaks.— Bow- street, February 9. Absconded from Steeple Barton, Oxon, on the 25th ultimo, charged with breaking and entering the dwelling- house of Thomas Willett, and stealing therefrom £ 7 10s. in gold, CHARLES BAYLIS, 17 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, proportionately made, walks erect; when last seen he was dressed in grey tweed stable jacket worn at elbows, corduroy trousers, cloth cap, blue check shirt, and blucher boots much worn, but is sup- posed to be now dressed in new clothes: belongs to the Qxon Militia. He left Heyford Station, on the Great Western Railway, for Paddington on the above date. He is likely to be found at the Artillery Barracks at Woolwich, where he will probably endeavour to enlist. It is requested that police officers make immediate inquiries in garrison towns and camps, and also of recruiting parties in Westminster. Information to be given to Inspector TI>„ rogood, Police Station, Deddington, Oxon, who holds a warrant for his apprehension ; or at any Police Station in Oxon.— Bow- street, February 9. Further information respecting CHARLES BAYLIS, charged with housebreaking at Steeple Barton, Oxon, on the 25th ultimo. He is supposed to be with Henry Siuith, a native of Westcott Barton, Oxon, now a private in the Horse Artillery, quartered at Woolwich. Smith lias been in the Artillery about six months. Information to be given to Mr. Inspector Thorogood, Police Station, Deddington, Oxon.— Bow- street, February 9. Between the hours of 11 p. m. on the 6tli, and 7 a. m. on the 7th instant, the dwelling- house and shop of Mr. John Davies, baker and grocer, of Welsh Hampton, near Ellesmere, Salop, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrojn : a small Cheese, a Currant Loaf, lbs. of fresh Butter, and a quantity of Peppermint, and other Sweets ; also two calico Shirts, with cloth collars and wristbands. Any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, shall receive £ 4 14s. 6d. reward, on application to Mr. Pritchard, Solicitor to the Welsh Hampton Association for the Prosection of Felons. Information to be given to Mr. Ivins, Superintendent of Police, Oswestry ; or to Sergeant Thomas, Police Station, Ellesmere, Salop.-- Bwv- street, February 9. During the night of the 6 th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Law, maltster near the railway station, Gray's; Thurrock, Essex, was-, burglariously entered, and the following property stolen : ftVe electro- plated Forks ; a pair of Table Spoons, seven odd Tea ditto, a pair of Salt ditto, and a Dessert ditto ( all sil- ver) ; a black cloth Dress Coat, lined with silk ; a grey mix- ture Great Coat, with black silk collar ; a pair of Wellington Boots, nearly new ; a pair of woman's elastic- side ditto ; a pair of boy's Slippers; a pair of child's Shoes ; 1 lb. of Tea ; and a Morocco Purse, containing a Half- Crown and a Shilling in Silver. Information to be given to Inspector Rutledge, Police Station, Orsett, Essex.— Bow- street, February 9. During the night of the 4th or morning of the 5th instant, soM » ' perso » or persons- broke and entered St. Michael's Church School, in the. borough of St. Alban's, and the following pro- perty stolen therefrom, viz. : 17 yards of white Calico ; 8f yards oil lilac Print; three Chem ses; seven linen Towels ; an Apron, unfinished ; a packet of glazed Thread ; two packets of Ti » pe ; three gross of Steel Pens ; fifty Envelopes ; a ream of Note Paper ; several reels of coloured Cotton; a school Reward Medal, with the ' National School Depository' one side, and ' Diligence and Good Conduct' on the other; and 220 papers of Needles, various numbers. Information to be fiven to Mr. Superintendent Pike, Police Office, St. Alban's, ( erts.— Bow- street, February 0. On the night of the 2nd instant, a burglary was committed at the house of Miss: Mary Thompson, at Sevenoaks, and the following property stolen therefrom : two £ 5 Bank of England Notes, and about £ 3 in Cash ; three old- fashioned Tea Spoons, marked ' P.'; a silver Top of mustard pot; a silver Top of pepper box ; a white cornelian gold Brooch ; a silver Pencil Case, Mordants ; a silver Vinaigrette, marked ' M. T. ; and two long steel bead Purses. Information to be given to Super- intendent Colman, Kent Constabulary, Sevenoaks.— Bow- street, February 4. On the night of the 31st ultimo, the bouse of Mr. William Gale, Coles, of No. 11, Victoria- square, Clifton, Bristol, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen there- from : a silver Waiter, bead pattern round the edges; a silver Cruet Stand ; a silver Top of claret stand ; a silver Mustard Pot and Spoon ; a silver Pepper Box ; three silver Tops of glass stands ; and a silver Thimble ( all with crest, a dragon rising out of a crown, and arrow in claw) ; also twelve Dessert Knives with silver handles, Plum, maker; a dark Paisley Shawl; a reversible india- rubber Over Coat, alpaca inside, a small piece torn off at the comer of skirt ; a leather reticule Bag ; four small silver bottle Labels, with chain attached, and marked ' Port, Sherry, Claret.' Information to be given to the Acting Chief Superintendent, Bristol.— Bow- street, Feb. 4. Between the hours of 11 p. m. on the 29th, and 5 a. m. on the 30th ultimo, two dwelling- houses were entered by talse keys, in the borough of Bolton, and the following property stolen therefrom : an old- fashioned brown mixture Overcoat; a brass Mortar and an iron Pounder ; two large brass Candle- sticks, loose at the bottoms ; a 6- quart iron Pan, with a small piece broken out of the edge, and flat handle over the top ; a 4- quart iron Pan, with long handle ; a quart Saucepan; a o- quart iron Kettle;' with the handle cracked near the rivets at the back ; a China- blue priht. Apron, much worn; a peach and white striped Apron, much worn; a print plaid Apron, with border at the bottom, much worn; a white muslin Window Curtain ; a Malt Sack, with the name ' Rodger Hurst' marked thereon : and about 30 lbs. of Provisions, consisting of V Sugar, Bacon, Cheese, & c. Information to be given to Mr. Jas. Harris, Chief Constable, Police Office, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, February 2. Between 9 p. m. on the 28th, and 6 a. m. on the 29th inst., the pawnshop of Henry Walker, of Ashton Old Road, Open- shaw, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz. : thirteen gold Wedding Rings; five silver Watch Guards of various sizes, one is very strong, and has the swivel broken off ; two pairs of women's Boots, laced up at'the sides, and brass eyelet- holes ; three new black velve- teen Jackets; three pairs of new black velveteen Trousers, to ftt boys from 12 to IS years of age ; and ten pairs of Boots, boy's size. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Old Trafford, near Manchester.— Bow- street, January 30. On the night of the 27th instant, or early the following morning, some person or persons broke and entered the house of' the Rev. T. H. Maitland, Southmolton, and stole a silver plated Candlestick, a silver Tea Spoon ( crest, a lion rampant), a plated Toast Rack, a silver Mustard Pot, a Table Cloth ( diamond pattern), some Bread, several pounds of Stilton Cheese, some dressed Beef, and part of an undressed ham of Pork. Information to be given to Superintendent W. H. Fisher, Southmolton, Devon.— Bow- street, January 30. S33SISE AND CATTLE STEALING. The Donkey, advertised in the Police Gazette of the Gth instant, supposed to have been stolen from Sexden, near Col- chester, has been found and restored to its owner.— Bow- street, February 11. The Pony and Colt, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 2nd instant, as supposed to have been stolen from North Hill, in. the parish of Stockland, Devon, have been found and restored to the owner.— Bow- street, February 11. JONATHAN JONES, of Llanddewibrefi, Cardiganshire, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 29th August last and on the 5th of the following month, charged with Horse stealing, and fOr whose apprehension a warrant has been issued, is still at large. He is of the following desdfiption : 51 years of age, S feet 10 inehes high, straight and well built, swarthy com- plexion, black hair slightly mixed with grey, black whiskers, hair and whiskers bushy, small dark deeply- set eyes, has a lazy appearance, mostly always with his hands in his breeches pockets, speaks very bad English, although a labourer, very seldom works, likes small jobs, makes clogs from old shoes, about two years ago he led a stallion pony through different parts of Glamorganshire, where he is well known ; he has been lately seen near Dowlais, in that county, and afterwards going in the direction of Rhymney, dressed in a light mixture cloth monkey jacket, cord breeches and leggings, black high- crowned hat, and a good pair o£ lace- up boots. The special attention of the Police of the counties of Glamorgan, Manmouth, and Brecon, is solicited, aa it is believed that the said Jonathan Jones is now tramping through one of those counties. £ 1 re- ward will be paid by Mr. David Morgan Davies, of Landdewi- brefi, for his apprehension. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Lloyd, Aberystwith, Cardiganshire; or to Sergeant Lyons, Treganon Police Station, Lampeter, Cardigan- shire.— Bow- street, February 11. Stolen from a field at Coulton, in the West Riding of Yorkshire, between 6 p. m. on the 4th, and 11 a. m. on the 5th ins- ant, the. property of James Stoker, butcher, two Balmshaw Sheep, very fat, marked down the face and across the loins with red paint, wool very white, and skins can be identified. Infor- mation to be given to Mr. Superintendent Parkin, West Riding Constabulary, Tadcaster.— Bow- street, February 9. Supposed to have been stolen on the night of the 2nd or 3rd instant, from a field in the parish of Maidstone, near Bishops Castle, the property of Mr. James Blockley, a bay Filly, rising 2 years old, about 13 hands high, a star on fore- head, and tail cut short. Information to be given to the Police Station, Bishops Castle, Salop.— Bow- street, February 9. Supposed to have been stolen on the night of the 3rd inst., from a field at Smethwick, in the parish of Harborne, Stafford- shire, the property of Mr. John Gosling, butcher, a light brown Horse, 4 years old, about 14 hands high, long mane and tail, and a white streak on the forehead; also a dark brown Mare, about 14 hands high, long mane and tail, and a small white star on forehead, the property of the same John Gosling, they are both without shoes. Information to be given to Sergeant, William Passey, Police Station, Smethwick.— Bow- street, February 9. A horse answering the description in every respect passed through Kilburn Gate for London at about 1130 a. m. on the 6th instant; he had on a halter, and a short young man, pale face, no whiskers, was riding the same with- out a saddle. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. On the 13th ultimo a man called on the Rev. H. J. Fielden, rector of Kirk Langley, and represented himself to be connected with the Court of Chancery, producing a document purporting to be signed by Vice- Chancellor Stuart, authorizing him to enquire into the next of kin to the late Rev. John Ward, formerly rector of Kirk Langley; the reverend gentleman assisted him in accomplishing his pretended object, and suc- ceeded in finding out two men, the next of kin, to whom he administered two oaths, for which the reverend gentleman paid him 10s.; he also lent him an Inverness coat and an umbrella : it has since been ascertained that the man is an impostor, and will most likely be practising in a similar manner elsewhere. He is about 32 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, ruddy com- plexion, light hair and whiskers, inclined to be sandy ; dressed in light vest and trousers, and is of gentlemanly appearance : he gave the name of JOHN COOPER, No. 11, Old- square, Lincoln's Inn, London. The boy, JAMES BACON, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 9th instant, charged with obtaining goods by false pretences, has been apprehended and remanded on the charge.— Bow- street, February 11. Further information respecting JOSEPH PHILLIPS, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 19th ultimo, charged with compounding a felony, also with perjury : he is 55 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, brown hair and whiskers, slightly turning grey, sharp nose, red face, very much pock- marked, has a dissipated appearance, is of drunken habits, walks straight and quickly, and has been in the army ; generally dressed in black or dark clothes, and has the appear- ance of a tramp : he will most likely be found at low public- houses or common lodging- houses.
