Published for Ireland on every Tuesday >* nd Friday, All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and Cry, are to be transmitted under cover addressed to the Inspector- General of Constabulary ( the words Hue* and- Cry to be written on the left hand corner of the Envelope). No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. As the Law ( 48 Geo. 3, c. 140, s. 44,) only permits the insertion of Notices respecting Felonies, no other description of Notice can be inserted in the Hue- and- Cry. DUBLIN, FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 1863. English Police. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Grogan, a native of Bally- annaas, county Mayo, who is wanted on a charge of burglariously breaking out pf the dwelling of George Wright, of Great Harwood, labourer, on the morning of the 26th instant, and stealing therefrom a silver verge watch; maker, Jackson, Liverpool; No. 8004; a pair of gray cloth trowsers, nearly new ; a pair of elastic side shoe?, newly soled ; two sovereigns and four half sovereigns and two or three pounds in silver ; the pro- perty of Robert Smith, butcher, who slept in the same room with Grogan. He is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 6$ inches high, light hair, sandy whiskers, under his chin, but has nono at the sides of face ; has lost the middle finger of right hand ; and is supposed to be dressed in the stolen trowsers and shoes, gray cloth overcoat, bro jvn cloth vest, and black velvet cap. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Curry, a native of county Armagh, who stands charged with having, on the night of 1st, or morning of 2nd February, 1863, in the barony of Lower Orior, parish of Kilmore, absconded from the house of Henry Jackson, of Ballylish, taking with him one pair of brown cloth trowsers, and vest of same pattern, a silk handkerchief, with red, white, and blue stripe?; and a pair of shoes ; value for 30s.; the property of Henry Jackson :— 18 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, slender make, fair complexion, gray eyes, black hair ; wore a glazed cap, brown cloth frock coat, gray cloth trowsers; has scars on right knee. Is supposed to have gone to Belfast. A warfant is in the hands of the Constabulary at Tandragee for his arrest. Portadown, 4th Feb., 1863. ( B. 16905— 8071.) DESCRIPTION of Margaret Murphy, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 26th January, 1863, in the barony of Annagh, parish of Keady, left the house of Mary M'Kee, stealing £ 2 in money, a blue cloak, a pair of shoes, a pair of black stockings, a petticoat, a white shawl, and a calico sheet; value in all for £ 3] 10s., tho property of the said Mary M'Kee : 58 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout make, yellow complexion, long face, dark eyes ( constantly running water), regular nose, black hair; wore a cotton grown ( with white and brown stripes), a blanket petti- coat, a green plaid shawl; and has a smart appearance. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that about the hour of 5 o'clock, on the afternoon of the 3rd of June, 1863, William J. H. Moreland, Esq., was fired at on the public road at Poulagour, in the barony of Tulla Upper, and county of Clare, by some person at present unknown. His Excellency, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this outrage, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of £ 100 to any per- son or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the person or persons who com- mitted the same. By His Excellency's command, THOS. A. LARCOM. The above reward will be paid by William O'Hara, Esq., the Resident Magistrate at Tulla, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Proclamation. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Sheridan, native of Galway, who stands charged with having, on the 19th January, 1863, in the barony of Corcomroe, parish of Killi- lagh, absconded with a large sum of money, belonging to his master, James O'Brien, esq., J. P. and D. L., of Ballinalackin ( which he fraudulently collected from the tenants, he being . under- agent to Mr. O'Brien). Mr. O'Brien will give £ 50 for such private information as shall lead to Sheridan's arrest:— 45 or 50 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, slight make, fre- h complexion, ruddy face, hazel eyes, straight nose, dark brown hair; wore a cross striped tweed coat, tweed trowsers, tweed vest; ankle of right foot turned out; walks with a stick with difficulty; is very lame. DESCRIPTION of John Mack, a native of Mullina- hone, county Tipperary; Thomas Ready, a native of Dungarvan, county Waterford ; James Whelan, a native of Ballycallan, county Kilkenny, Patrick Brien, and William Brennan, who stand charged with having, on the night of the 30th January, 1863, in the barony of Gowran, parish of Thomastown, been found lying upon a lime- kiln, and unable to give a satisfactory account of themselves :— 1. 40 years of age, 5 feet6£ inches high, stout make, THE POLICE GAZETTE, OH H U e - C R Y , FEBRUARY 6, 1863. dark complexion, full face, blue eyes, regular nose, brown hair; wore a dark frock coat, cord trowsers, velvet vest; has large whiskers. 2. 24 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout make, fresh complexion, full face, hazel eyes, ordinary nose, light brown hair 5 wore a brown cloth frock coat, cord trowsers, no vest; has a mark of a burn on left arm. 3. 27 years of age, 5 feet inches high, stout make, fresh complexion, full face, blue eyes, ordinary nose, sandy hair; wore a pilot over- coat, cord trowsers, no vest; has a mark of an evil on the right side of liis neck. 4. 26 years of age, 5 foot inches high, slight make, dark complexion, fresh face, brown eyes, regular nose, black hair; wore a dark frieze coat, cord trow- sers, no vest. 5. 30 years of ago, 5 feet 6 inches high, slight make, fresh complexion, thin face, blue eyes, " regular nose, light brown hair ; wore a pilot frock coat, cord trowsers, bo wn vest. The above being suspicious- looking men, were re- manded by the magistrates in order that they might be advertised in Hue- and- Cry, as they may be charged with offences elsewhere. DESCRIPTION of two persons unknown, natives of county Leitrim, who stand charged with having, on the night of the 31st ultimo, been of a party who, in the barony of Leitrim, parish of Kiltoghert, a pro- claimed district, appeared in arms, entered the house of Henry Leslie, of Ballinwing, demanded and searched for arms, threatened the inmates and put them in fear:— 1. 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, stout make, swarthy complexion, oval face, flat nose, brown hair; wore a cap, ragged brown frieze frock coat, cord trowsers, a little whisker; commander of the party. 2. 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, very stout make, swarthy complexion, short flat face, black hair; wore a broad brimmed hat, ragged frieze frock coat, cord trowsers, whiskers shaved off, but a full black beard on chin, armed with a gun ; both appearance of country labourers. WHEREAS information has reached the Government tbat Patrick Ross and James Ross, charged with the murder John Corrigan, and with firing at and wounding his wife, Mary Corrigan, near Malkagh, in the barony of Longford, and county of Longford, on the 20th April, 1862, and who have not as yet been arrested, have been concealed, and are harboured, received, and concealed, and assisted and aided in several parts of the country since the said Inurder: Now, His Excellency the Lord Lieutenant is pleased to offer a reward of £ 100 to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of any one whomsoever who has, since the said murder, knowingly harboured, or recoup, or con- cealed, or assisted or aided in any wa^ watever in their escape from arrest, the said Patrick Boss and James Boss. By His Excellency's command, THOS. A. LARCOM. The above reward will be paid, on conviction, by B. A. O'Donnell, Esq., Besident Magistrate at Long- ford. DESCRIPTION of said Pat Ross and James Ross:— Patrick, 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout make, sallow complexion, thin face, gray eyes, sharp nose, cut on his lip, brown hair; wore a gray frieze coat, cord trowsers, dark vest; wore a jim crow hat. Will try to escape to America. James, 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, slight make, dark complexion, thin faco, gray eyes, regular nose, black hair; wore a dark frieze frock coat, cord trowsers, dark tweed vest; wore an old dark cloth cap. DESCRIPTION of a mare and tackling, the property of Denis Dunne, of Ballintogher, which was stolen from his stablo, parish of Lea, and barony of Portna- hinch, on the night of 2ad Feb., 1863:— A bay mare, about 15 hands high, two hind and off fore foot white, a small star on forehead, rather wide in the ears, heavy limbed, rising 6 years old; and value for about £ 12. The tackling consisted of a collar, harness, winkers, britchen, and straddle, pretty good and ser- viceable. Also on the same night, a cart, the property of John Monaher, of Ballycarroll, was stolen from a field on the lands of Closeland, parish and barony afore- said, having two sideboards, no front, or tail board, newly repaired, the off shaft cracked, and a plate of iron lately put on, one of centre body sticks under slats broken off behind, newly painted slate colour; and value for £ 2 10s. Supposed to be taken by the same party who stole Denis Dunne's mare and tackling. The property was traced in the direction of Monas- terevan, county Kildare. Maryborough, 4th Feb., 1862. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Drury, a native of county Sligo, who stands charged with having, on the 25th ultimo, in the barony of Coolavin, parish of Kilfree, violently assaulted Winefred M'Carrick so as to endan- ger her life:— 25 years of age, 5 feet inches high, stout make, dark complexion, full face, sore eyes, regular nose, dark brown hair; wore a black cap, frieze coat, cord trowsers; walks slovenly, with a loose gait. WHEREAS Michael Hayes, who is charged with having murdered Mr. John Waller Braddell, on the 30th of July, 1862, in the town of Tipperary, has hitherto evaded arrest. His Excellency the Lord Lieutenant is pleased hereby to offer a reward of £ 300 to any person or persons who shall, within one month from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the said Michael Hayes. And His Excellency is further pleased hereby to offer a reward of £ 100 to any jjerson or persons who shall, within three months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of any one whomsoever who has, since the said murder, knowingly harboured or received, or concealed, or assisted, or aided in any way whatsoever, the said Michael Hayes in his escape from arrest. By His Excellency's command, THOS. A. LABOOM. The above rewards will be paid by any Besident Magistrate or Officer of the Constabulary. DESCRIPTION of said Michael Hayes:— 60 years of age, 6 feet high, stout make, dark sallow complexion, large heavy face, dark eyes, rather long nose, black, a little gray hair; wore a black frieze body coat, knee breeches, black stockings, Caroline hat; stooped shoulders, and a heavy slovenly gait when walking; has a down look; very heavy eyebrows, somewhat gray ; bald on the crown of the head, with a few stray hairs on it; several of his front teeth out; high cheek bones and sunken jaws; and altogether a remarkable and an ill- looking man. He may probably assume a disguise, such as a wig, moustache, false teeth, and black coat, & c. Cappamore, 3rd August, 1862. ( B. 10071— 10283.)
