Police Gazette, Published for Ireland on every Tuesday and Friday. All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and Cry, are to he transmitted under cover addressed to the Inspector- General of Constabulary ( the words Hue- » nd- Cry to be written on the left hand corner of the Envelope). No Description can be inserted unless an Inwrmat- on Rhall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. As the Law ( 48 Geo. 3, c. 140, s. 44,) only permits the insertion of Notices respecting Felonies, no other description of Notice can be inserted in the Hue- and- Cry. DUBLIN, FRIDAY, JANUARY 2, 1863. English Police. STOLEN, between the hours of 10 p. m. on Saturday, the 20th, and 7 30 p. m. on Monday, the 22nd instant, from a box in a bedroom, at the " Horse and Jockey " public- house, in the borough of Wigan, a small wooden box, with brass handle on the top, containing £ 125 13s. 4d. in gold and silver, the property of Wil- liam Pickard and others, as trustees of the Miners' General Sick and Provident Benefit Society, by a man named John M'Donald, who has absconded. He i-, of the following description : about 35 years of age, 6 feet in height, very dark brown hair, moustache, and whiskers ( moustache may be shaved off), gray eyes, dark swarthy complexion, and prominent nose; walks very erect, and is very forward in his manners; stated he was a native of Glasgow. He was a very short time in Wigan, but whilst there worked as a collier ; he is supposed to be a deserter, and has the appear- ance of having been at sea. He is accompanied by a woman who passes for his wife, she is of the following description: about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches in height, black hair, fresh complexion, and very much sun freckled. They left Wigan for Liver- pool by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway on the afternoon of the 22nd instant, and it is probable they will have gone to Dublin. He will most likely associate with low company, and may be found in common lodging bouses. A warrant has been issued, and a reward of £ 10 will be paid by Thomas Broom- head, landlord of the Horse and Jockey public- house aforesaid, to any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the said John M'Donald. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that about the hour of 5 o'clock, on the afternoon of the 3rd of June, 1862, William J. H. Moreland, Esq., was fired at on the public road at Poulagour, in the barony of Tulla Upper, and county of Clare, by some person at present unknown. His Excellency, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this outrage, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of £ 100 to any per- son or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the person or persons who com- mitted the same. WHEREAS information has reached the Government that Patrick Ross and James Ross, charged with the murder of John Corrigan, and with firing at and wounding his wife, Mary Corrigan, near Malkagh, in the barony of Longford, and county of Longford, on the 20th April, 1862, and who have not as yet been arrested, have been concealed, and are harboured, received, and concealed, and assisted and aided in several parts of the country since the said murder: Now, His Excellency the Lord Lieutenant is pleased to offer a reward of £ 100 to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of any one whomsoever who has, since the said murder, knowingly harboured, or received, or con- cealed, or assisted or aided in any way whatever in their escape from arrest, the said Patrick Ross and James Ross. By His Excellency's command, THOS. A. LARCOM. The above reward will be paid, on conviction, by R. A. O'Donnell, Esq., Resident Magistrate at Long- ford. DESCRIPTION of said Pat Ross and James Ross;— Patrick, 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout make, sallow complexion, thin face, gray eyes, sharp nose, cut on his lip, brown hair; wore a gray frieze coat, cord trowsers, dark vest; wore a jim crow hat. Will try to escape to America. ^ ames, 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, slight paake, dark complexion, thin face, gray eyes, regular nose, black hair; wore a dark frieze frock coat, cord trowsers, dark tweed vost; wore an old dark cloth cap. Will try to escape to America. Drumlish, 22nd April, 1862. ( B. 5444— 5614.) DESCRIPTION of four persons, names unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 26th day of December, at Aughakilmore, in tbe barony of Gran- ard, parish of Columbkill, appeared armed, and threatened the life of Patrick Mulvey :— 1. 80 years of ago, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout make, dark complexion, dark hair, dark eyes, high mouth ; wore a cloth cap, blue frieze coat, cord trowsers. 2. 18 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, slight make ; vyoro a cap, blue frieze coat, cord trowsers. 3. 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout make ; Wore a straw hat, brown frieze coat, cord trowsers. 4. 18 years of age, 5 feet 7 inchos high, slender make; wore a cap, blue frieze coat, cord trowsers. DESCRIPTION of a ewe sheep, the property of Mr. William Bailie, which was stolen from the lands of Freagh, and parish of Creggsn, and barony of Upper Dundalk, on tho night of 23rd, or morning of 24th instant, viz.:— A white ewe, with very short tail, marked with letters W. B. on left side, and an unknown number pn the right hind quarter, with a raddle mark under ihe left ear; value for £ 2. She was traced in the direction of Carrickmacfpss, county Monaghao. DESCRIPTION of James Mullowny, native of Mayo, who stands charged with having, on the night of 22nd instant, in the barony of Kilinain, parish of Mayo, attempted to violate the person of Bridget Mills:— 34 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, slight make, dark complexion, thin face, brown eyes, long black bair; wore a cap, dark friezo frock coat, dark cord trowsers, dark frieze vest. DESCRIPTION of two persons, names unknown, supposed natives of Meath, who stand charged with having, on the 14th December, 1862, at Belview, in the barony of Fore, parish of Diamor, been two of a party who assaulted George Drewey and Arthur Lyons, by inflicting severe wounds on their heads with loaded whips:— 1. 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, slight make, dark complexion, common face ; wore a cap, dark frieze coat, cord trowsers ; supposed to be marked on the left cheek from the blow of a tong received on the occasion; had large black whiskers meeting under his chin. 2. 22 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, very stout make, swarthy complexion, full round common face, slightly freckled or pockmarked, has no whiskers ; wore an old felt hat, cut down to about the middle, so as that it appeared quite low with a crown put into same, bright frieze frock coat, cord trowsers. DESCRIPTION of a man, who gave his name as Thomas Foody, native of Emilymoran, who stands charged with having, on the 19th of December, 1862, in the barony of Tireragh, parish of Castleconnor, stolen a cow, the property of Mrs. Mary Boland ( which has been since recovered), Sub- Inspector at Easky holds a warrant for his arrest:— 17 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, stout make, fair complexion, full face, brown hair; wore a brown frieze frock coat, corduroy trowsers, black vest; a drag at one side of mouth. DESCRIPTION of four yearling lambs, the property of Thomas Strickland, of Castlemore House, near Bal- laghadereen, which were stolen from the lands of Castiemore, parish of Castlemore, and barony of Costello, on the night of the 22nd or morning of the assisted, or aided in any way whatsoever, the said Michael Hayes in his escape from arrest. By His Excellency's command, THOS. A. LARCOM. The above rewards will ba paid by any Resident Magistrate or Officer of the Constabulary. DESCRIPTION of said Michael Hayes:— 60 years of age, 6 feet high, stout make, dark sallow complexion, large heavy face, dark eyes, rather long nose, black, a little gray hair; wore a black frieze '- ody coat, knee breeches, black stockings, Caroline hat; stooped shoulders, and a heavy slovenly gait when walking; has a down look; very heavy eyebrows, somewhat gray ; bald on the crown of tbe head, with a few stray bairs on it; several of his front teeth out; high cheek bones and sunken jaws; and altogether a remarkable and an ill- looking man. He may probably assume a disguise, such as a wig, moustache, false teeth, and black coat, & c. Cappamore, 3rd August, 1862. ( B. 10071— 10283.) £ 20 REWARD. WHEREAS, on the night of the 23rd instant, the cap stones of the Main Bridge over the River Suir, in the town of Cahir, were thrown into the river by some person or persons unknown. J hereby offer a reward of £ 20 to any person who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the party concerned this outrage. WHEREAS Michael Hayes, who is charged with having murdered Mr. John Waller Braddell, on the 80th of July, 1862, in the town of Tipperary, has hitherto evaded arrest. His Excellency the Lord Lieutenant is pleased hereby to offer a reward of £ 300 to any person or persons who shall, within one month from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the said Michael Hayes. And His Excellency is further pleased hereby to offer a reward of £ 100 to any person or persons who shall, within three months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of any one whomsoever who has, since the said murder, knowingly harboured or received, or concealed, or | DESCRIPTION of a sheep, the property of Henry Moore, esq., which was stolen off the lands of Glen- bawn or Loughtally, parish of Inishlonaght, and barony of Iffa and Offa East, on the night of 18th or morning of 19th instant:— A white hogget, marked " H. Westmeath. £ 20 REWARD. WHEREAS, on the night of the 23rd instant, about eight o'clock, two persons unknown, having been refused admission into the dwelling of Peter Gahan, of Killeenbrack, in the Streamstown Constabulary District, county of Westmeath, fired a shot into the house, lodging a ball in the wall opposite. I hereby offer a reward of £ 20 to any person who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of both or either of said persons.
