Pall Mall, London, S. W,," as they cannot be published without hit authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. The body of a newly- born Female Child was found on the shore !> t Harwich, Essex, about 7 a. m. on- thc 2rid instant, wrapped in an old black apron, tied round the amis and chest with a stay lace, and round the legs with a piece of twine. An inquest was held on the following day, and a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons' returned. In the opinion of the surgeon the child bad been but a few hours dead previous to being found. Information to be given to Inepector R. Banks, County Constabulary, Harwich, Essex.— Bow- street, June 4. FORGERY. On' the eVening of the 15th ultimo, a forged £ 10 Note of the Ross Bank, No. 6012, dated 5th of 3rd month, 1861, and signed Edward Dawson, was passed at public- house at Leighton Buzzard. By a. man aboitt 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, full face, light brown hair, no whis- kers, and dressed in a dark tweed coat, vest, and trousers, and black deerstalker V He was accompanied by a woman about 30 years < / * ieet 4 inches high, rather stout, cut mark on the upper vote a dark Orleans dress, and black bonnet. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire.— Bow- street, June 6. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen, about 10 p. m. on the 2nd instant, from the person of Mr. Cleve, Palace New Club Chambers, St. James's, while in Cremorne Gardens,, a gold duplex hunting Watch, maker Upjohn and Wright, No. 11,583.— Metropolitan Police, V Division, June 9. Supposed to have been stolen, from the person of a gentle- man, between the parish church and the bottom of Norfolk- row, Sheffield, on the 2nd instant, an old- fashioned gold lever Watch, having the name ' Ralph Foster, Sheffield Moor,' on the inner plate. £ 5 reward will be paid to any one who will give such information as shall lead to the recovery of the watch, and the conviction of the thief, if stolen. Information to be given to Mr. Jackson, Chief Constable, Town Hall, Sheffield.— Bow- street, June 6. Stolen on the 26th ultimo, from the person of a gentleman at the Central Railway Station, Newcastle- upon- Tyne, a patent lever gold Watch, No. 27836, maker's name T. Y. French, Newcastle- on- Tyne. Information to be given to John Sabbage, Chief Constable, Newcastle- on- Tyne.— Bow- street, June 4. Further particulars respecting the stealing from the person of Philip Morris, at the parish of Clunhury, Salop, on the 24th ultimo, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 28th ultimo. The No. of the Watch is 6411: the offender wore a low- crowned fur hat, and not a jimcrow ; and is sup- posed to have gone to Walsall, as he formerly worked there in a timber yard. £ 1 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the conviction of the offender. Information to be given to Sergeant G. Brown, Bishop's Castle, Salop.— Bow- street, June 4. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING Description of MATTHEW DOWNS, for whose appre- hension a warrant has been issued on a charge of being con- cerned with another man, now in custody, named JOHN NEWMAN, with burglariously breaking and entering the house of Mr. Thomas Joseph Dresser, innkeeper, in the borough of Kingston- upon- Hull, on the night of the 3rd instant, and stealing therefrom two bottles . of Brandy and about £ 1 in copper money. He is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, rather slender, sallow complexion, dark hair, no whiskers, tuft of dark hair on his chin, part of one of his fingers is off; dressed in an old round fustian jacket, waistcoat, and trousers, blue flannel shirt, black cloth cap, and of dirty appearance. He is a boiler maker's labourer, a native of Scotland, and well known in Manchester. Informa- tion to be given to the Chief Constable, Hull, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, June 9. Between 12 midnight on the 6th and 5 a. m. on the 7tb instant, Dingeston Vicarage, near Monmouth, was burglariously broken into, and the following articles were stolen therefrom : a blue pilot cloth Overcoat, pockets outside in skirts, one ditto in left breast, black covered buttons, and button holes much worn ; a ham of Pork, about 6 or 71bs ; a stone Jar, marked ' J. Powell, Monmouth,' containing 2 qts. of Gin ; and two loaves of Bread, about 6 lbs. each. Supposed by tramps, who will most likely be wearing the stolen coat. Information to be given to Mr. W. C. Freeman, Superintendent. Monmouth- shire Constabulary, Abergavenny.— Bow- street, June 9. Description of GEORGE DAWSON, alias SWAB, a waterman, of Sheep Bridge, near Huddersfield, in the West, Biding of Yorkshire, who is charged with committing a burglary at the dwelling- house of Mary Holdsworth, innkeeper, Brighouse, on the night of the 29th or early on the 30t, h ult., and stealing a quantity of Wine : he is about 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, black whiskers round the chin, and blotches on the face; dressed in fustian trousers, old boots and old cloth cap, of very dirty appearance, and will most likely be found on canal banks or low beer- houses. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Wardle, West Riding Constabulary, Halifax, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, June 6. On the night of the 3rd, instant, or early the following morning, the dwelling- house of Mr. Craven, solicitor, of No. 8. Constantia- terrace, Sheerness, was broken into, and a silver Cruet- frame, the silver Tops from the bottles appertaining to the same, a silver Snuff- box with crest,, & c., and two plated Salvers, were stolen therefrom. This burglary was committed by four young men, two of whom were, captured shortly afterwards while attempting to commit, another burglary in Sheerness. One gives the name of WILLIAM WRIGHT, 18 years of age, 6 feet 7 inches high, light brown hair, fair complexion, grey eyes, and small moustache; dressed in black petersham cloth coat with velvet collar black trousers, tweed vest, balmoral boots, black hat with cloth hat- band made by Conolly and Son, 18, Walwortli- road, and militia shirt marked 282': states be belongs to the 3rd Surrey Militia. The other gives the name of CHARLES LEWIS, a brushmaker, 22 years of age, 5 feet 6J inches high, light brown hair, fair complexion, and hazel eyes; dressed in dark cloth coat, trou sers, and cap. Both men are supposed to be. residents of London. The two who made their escape are about 18 years of age, short in stature, and w, ere dressed in dark clothes and caps, and are supposed to be wearing cord trousers. None of the stolen property has been recovered. £- 5 reward will'be given for such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property. Infor- mation to be given to Mr. Superintendent Green, Sitting- bourne ; or at the Police Office, Blue Town, Sheerness.' Bow- street, June 6. Between the hours of 11 p. m. on the 3rd, and 3 a. m. on the 4th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. John William Chater, situate at Chippenham, in the parish of Farnham Royal, Bucks, was burglariously entered, and two silver Cruet Tops, not marked, a silver Tea Spoon, marked ' C.' in old English, and a plated Salver, about 14 or 15 inches in diameter, stolen therefrom. Information to be given to Mr. Superinten- dent Clark, Slough, Bucks.— Bow- street, June 6. On the night of the lst instant, a burglary was committed at the ' Exeter' inn, High- street, Honiton, in the county of Devon, kept by James Knight, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz.: about £ 1 in Copper Money; a wooden Bowl which contained the same ; two Pocket Knives, one with but one blade, bone handle with a piece of silver in the centre, the other with two blades, a metal haft and supposed to be a piece of silver on the handle; a common Seal, with ' J. B.' on it, and ivory handle ; and a cut glass Decanter with some shrub in it. Two men of the following description are suspected of having committed the offence : one, from 45 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, with stout figure, and dressed in a blucher beaver hat, jacket with large pockets outside, cord trousers, and nailed boots: the other, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, with fresh complexion, and long brown hair, very awkward walk; dressod in a black flat- crowned billycock hat, jacket with pockets at the sides, cord trousers, and boots without nails. These men were traced from Honiton thirteen miles on the Ilminster- road, and are supposed to be travellers. Information to be given to Mr. Charles Dore, Superintendent of the Devon Constabulary, Honiton.— Bow- street, June 6. On the evening of the lst instant the dwelling- house of Miss Walker, No. 16, Princess- street, Leicester, was entered by means of forcing open the back window, while the family were at church, and the following property stolen therefrom: four round silver Salts with three feet each; four Salt Ladles, marked ' S. W.'; two silver Table Spoons ; two ditto, marked ' S. H.'; three Dessert Spoons, marked ' W.'; five silver Tea Spoons, marked ' S. W.'; six silver chased Tea Spoons; a Mustard Spoon ; two silver Butter Knives, marked ' S. W.'; a ditto, marked * A. W.'; a pair of Sugar Tongs, open worked ; a pair of ditto, plain; a gold Mourning Ring, marked 5. Job Gibbard, with white stone in the centre ; some Wedding Rings; a gentleman's large Ring set with diamonds ; an old- fashioned pinchbeck Watch with seconds hand ; an old- fashioned gold Chain with the top parts of seals attached to the ring ; a gold Ring set with hair ; a ditto, set with garnet ; a gold Mourning Ring; an electro- plated Gravy Spoon ; three large and three small electro- plated Forks, marked ' W.'; a £ 5 Bank of England Note ; a £ 5 Northampton Bank Note • th ree Sovereigns ; and a Half- sovereign. Whoever will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and con- viction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property shall receive £ 5 reward, on application to Mr. R. Charters, Chief Superintendent of Police, Town Hall, Leicester Bow- June 4. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. On the night of the 31st ultimo, a ewe Sheep was slaughtered in a field at the Forelands, in the parish of Broms- grove, the two shoulders and hind legs were cut off and taken away without being skinned, the property of F. Watt, Esq. Information to be given to John Bevan, Superintendant of Police, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, June 9. Supposed to have been stolen from some waste lane near Birmingham, on the nifht of the 2nd instant, a dark chesnut Horse, 15 hands high, white face, long tail, lame in the off fore foot, has had a quitter on it, and in low condition, the property of James Ray, Brick Kiln- street, Birmingham. Information to be given at the Police Station, Aston, or any of the Police Stations in Birm ngham.— Bow- street, June 9. Found in a field near Stafford, about the 26th ultimo, an aged bay Cart Mare, about 16 harids high, which is supposed to f- sir ® been stolen. Information to- be ( rlvjpn - Mr. Inspector Oswell, Guildhall, Stafford.— Bow- street, June 9. Supposed to have been stolen from a field near Llandilo, Carmarthenshire, on the night of the 2nd instant, a dark brown Horse, 3 years old, 14 hands high, long black tail with a few mixed grey hairs, has a large thick head, and in rather low condition, the property of Mr. John Woodward, butcher and farmer, Britonferry. Information to be given to Mr. Superin- tendent W. Parsons, County Constabulary Office, Neath, Gla- morganshire.— Bow- street, June 9. Supposed to have been stolen on the night of the 5th inst. from a field in the parish of Nuneaton, Warwick, a brown Cob' about 14 hands high, has a scar on the left knee, legs clipped and of a dark colour ; and a brown nag Mare, about 15 hands 2 inches high, carries her head forward, small belly, the tail has been cut in the middle, has a scar on the fore fetlock, the property of Joseph Chitham and James Jebson, of Nuneaton. Supposed to have gone through Coleshill for Birmingham. Information to be given to Mr. Thomas Austin, Superintendent of Police, Nuneaton, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, June 9. The' white Sow found at the Trench, near Ellesmere, Salop, supposed to have been stolen, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 2nd instant, has been owned. — Bow- street, June 9. The bay mare Pony, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 6th instant, as supposed to have been stolen from near the North Camp, Farnborough, Hants, on the night of the 2nd instant, has been recovered.— Bow- street? June 9. The Sheep supposed to have been stolen from Wrington, Somerset, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 4th instant' have been found and restored to the owner.— Bow- st., June 9. Supposed to have been stolen from a field near the Bir- mingham road, in the parish of Allesley, Warwickshire, on the night of the 1st instant, a light- coloured mare Donkey, 1- 4 or 15 years old, in good condition, has a little hair rubbed off the middle of the back, and the tail cut even with the hocks, the property of Mr. G. Goode, Allesley, farmer. Infor- mation to be given to J. Welch, Inspector of Police, Foleshill, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, June 6. Supposed to have been stolen from a field at Escrick, in the East Riding of the county of York, about the lst instant, two hog Sheep, marked with a blue dot on the rump and newly clipped. Information to be given to Mr. Benj. E. Naylor, Superintendent, East Riding Constabulary, Escrick.— Bow- June 6. Supposed to have been stolen, from a piece of waste ground near Monmore- green, Wolverhampton, on the night of the 2nd instant, a brown Mare Pony, aged, about 13 hands high, with white face, a little hair off one of her fore knees, long tail and mane, and in good condition. Information to be given to Captain Segrave, Chief Constable, Wolverhampton. Bow- street, June 6. Supposed to have been stolen, between the hours of 3 and 6 a. m. on the 3rd instant, from a field at Broadstone Farm, in the township of Denby, near Barnsley, a two- year- old entire bay Horse, 13 hands high, white streak down forehead, white above the off hind fetlock, long black mane and tail, shod on the fore feet, has worked recently, and is in good condition. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Greenhalgh' West Riding Constabulary, Barnsley, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, June 6. Supposed to have been stolen, during the evening of the 2nd instant, from Middleton, in the county of Warwick, the 2 POLICE GAZETTE. June 9. property of Mr. Henry Jackson, farmer, two Horses, viz.: one a chestnut Horse, 4 years old, 14 hands high, with switch tail, one hind and one fore foot white, also a white stripe down the face ; the other a light bay Mare, 4 years old, IS hands high, with dark legs, a white stripe down the face, and bang tail; both are in good condition, and very spirited. They have been traced to Shelfield, near Rushall. Information to be given to Mr. Bloxham, Deputy Chief Constable, Aston, Birmingham; to Inspector Thomas Webson, Coleshill; or to Inspector Price, Court House, Rushall, Walsall, Staffordshire.- Bow street, June 6. Supposed to have been stolen, from near the North Camp, Farnborough, Hants, on the night of the 2nd instant, a bay Mare Pony, in good condition, aged, about 13 hands high, with a star on forehead, large head, near knee broken, and low in front. By a tramp of the following description : about 28 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, with dark hair, and very dark complexion ( sun- burnt), and sullen looking ; dressed in an old dirty dark coat, old military trousers, with red piping at the sides, and old dirty cap : he is supposed to have gone to Epsom. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent W. Howard, Hants Constabulary, Camp, Aldershot.— Bow- street, June 6. Stolen, during the night of the lst, or morning of the 2nd instant, from a field on the farm of Mr. Chas. Heselden, of Barton, Lincolnshire, a Wether Sheep, newly shorn, and with a hole cut in the middle of the right ear. A reward of £ 4 is offered by the said Mr. Charles Heselden, to any person or persons giving such information as shall lead to the apprehen- sion and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Barton- upon- Humber, in the county of Lincoln.— Bow- street, June 6. Supposed to have been stolen from a field near Sellick Farm, Clawton, Devonshire, on the night of the lst instant, a black cob Horse, 8 years old, 14J hands high, stiffly made, full mane and tail, a little white on one of the fore feet, and also on one of the hind feet, hair rubbed off the off shoulder, liair appears rusty on nose and buttocks, and is in fair condition, the property of Mr. John Sleeman, Sellick Farm, Clawton, to whom information may be given; or to Mr, Superintendent Sargent, L. Division, County Constabulary, Holsworthy, Devon- shire.— Bow- street, June 6. Absconded from Winchcomb, JOHN TYSOE, charged with* stealing, on the 28tli ultimo, from Gretton, in the parish of Winchcomb,' a dark grey mare Pony, about 13 hands high, and 4 years 61d ; a Saddle and Bridle ; and a double- barrelled Gun, barrel about 2 feet long. He is 23 years of age,, about 6 feet 1 inch high, of military appearance, dark complexion, little or no whiskers, slight mobstache, and has lost several of his front teeth ; dressed when he absconded in a light spotted jacket ' and waistcoat, cloth cap, cord breeches, and leather leggings which fit tight round the legs. Information to be given to Mr. Coleman, Superintendent, Cheltenham ; or to Sergeant Cooke, Police Station, Winchcomb, Gloucestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 4. Stolen on. the night of the 27th ultimo, from a stable at West Boat, near Hexham, Northumberland, the property of Wm. Jobson, a dark brown horse Donkey, 7 years old, about 11J hands high, has a little hair rubbed off each fore knee, plain shoed in fore feet, and heels on hind feet, long tail, and in good condition. Information to be given to Mr. Superinten- dent Stephenson, Hexham, Northumberland. — Bow- street, June 4. Further information respecting the black entire Donkey and Harness stolen from a lane in the parish of Woodhouse, Leicestershire, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 26th ultimo. A man of the following, description was seen early the same morning taking the donkey away : JOHN HAYWOOD, a pot hawker, 48 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, middle stature, brown hair and whiskers, long face, pockpitted; dressed in a blue pilot coat and black or brown billycock hat: he sometimes wears a hairy cap such as worn by hawkers. He is supposed to he living at or near Coleshill, near Bir- mingham. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Hague, Loughborough, Leicester, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street., June 4. Sergeant, North Riding Constabulary Office, Easingwold, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 9. Absconded, on the 31st ultimo, from her lodgings, stealing a yellow silk Dress, a blue ditto, a black ditto with flounces, a peach ditto, four Cloaks various colours, three pairs of Boots, and a Bonnet, a woman, 30 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, long thin features, two teeth projecting in front, dark complexion, dark hair; dressed in black and has two plain rings on left hand. She has a boy with her, 2 to 3 years of age, wearing a white frock and black buttoned boots : and calls on ministers of churches and chapels, saying her child is dying, and wanting it baptised. Information to given to Mr. Superintendent Everist, Chatham, Kent. - Bow- street, June 9. Further information respecting JACOB HALIFAX, charged with embezzlement, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 23rd ultimo. He left Northampton last week, and said he was going to Towcester. He is about 60 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, has lost some upper teeth, and was dressed in black coat and trousers; he is calling at bakers' shops, either begging or asking for employment. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent W. B. Graham, Sharnbrook, Bedfordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 9. Stolen, about 7 p. m. on the 3rd instant, from No. 2, Buck- ingham- square, the property of Mr. Kloproggen, a £ 10 Bank of England Note, £ 14 in Gold, a brown Overcoat, a black ditto, a black Vest, and a pair of black Trousers. By a man 22 years of age, 6 feet high, dark complexion and hair, slight moustache, and dressed in black cloth coat, vest, and trousers, and black hat.— Metropolitan Police, M Division, June 9. JAMES SMITH, alias WILLIAM MAUD, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 2nd instant as having absconded from Meal Bank, near Kendal, charged with stealing a Table- cloth, has been apprehended, and committed for trial at the next quarter sessions at Appleby. It is strongly suspected that he has been previously convicted of felony. Information to be given to Mr. Hibberd, Superintendent and Deputy Chief Constable, Kendal, Westmorland.— Bow- street, June 9. Stolen, on the 31st ultimo, from the house of John Hopwood, in the borough of Stalybridge, in the county of Chester, the following property, viz. : four black Shawls; four pairs of Boots; a man's suit of black cloth Clothes ; a boy's ditto ; a black Shirt; a black silk ditto ; a black and white Shawl; a bed Quilt; two printed Counterpanes ; a white calico Shirt, with linen collar and wristbands ; four Bonnets, two of them mourning; a string of coral Beads, with gold clasp ; three black Dresses; three Flannels, a man's and two women's; half- a- dozen Knives and Forks ; a carving Knife and Fork, with white handles ; a black corded Scarf; a boy's silk Neck- tie ; a black cloth Mantle ; two Chemises, one linen, the other cotton ; two silSKlapes; a chenille Net; two women's Collars; yards of Ribbon ; two pairs of black silk Gloves ; two Petticoats, one flannel, the other linsey ; some Pillow Slips and Sheets; and a pair of white cotton Stockings. By a woman of the following description : 36 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, with thin pale fa « e, and light brown hair; dressed in a black bonnet, black shawl, and black dress. Also stolen, on, the 3rd instant, from the house of Jacob Woods, beer seller, in the said borough, a coarse black cloth Jacket, with two pocket ® outside in the skirt, and one in the left breast, cuffs lined with black velvet; and a black, white, and red twilled silk Handkerchief. By a young man who had been lodging in the house, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, slender make, and long black hair; dressed in an old alpaca jacket, a black cloth coat under- neath, cloth cap, and knitted scarf round his neck. Informa- tion to be given to Mr. William Chadwick, Chief Superinten- dent, Stalybridge, Cheshire.— Bow- street, June 6. LARCENY AND EMBEZ2HLEMENT. Wild'i Curzon- street. By two boys, one 14 years of age, tall, and slender ; dressed in a brown cloth swinger jacket, cord trousers, brown socks, clogs, and a cap : the other is 11 years of age, rather stout, and with lull face; dressed in a round velveteen jacket, cord trousers, blue stockings, clogs, and a cap. Description of a young woman, servant to Mr. Wilson, com factor, Fording House, Wakefield, who left her master's service on the afternoon of the 2nd instant, about 4 p. m., and has not been heard of since ; was last seen walking along the Barnsley Canal, near the foot- bridge leading towards Heath. She is suspected of having concealed the birth of a male child, which was found alive in a field adjoining the footpath leading between Carlton and Lofthouse, about 8 p. m. on the lst instant: the child, when found, had marks of violence on the shoulders and face, and died the following morning. She is 18 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, dark complexion, black eyes, oval visage, rather good- looking, a native of Wakefield; dressed in slate- coloured alpaca gown, light grey mantle trimmed with brown gimp, brown and white speckled straw bonnet trimmed with black crape, and had on a pair of old slippers.
