CONTAINING The substance of all Informations received in cases of Felony, and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputei Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses, for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. , ' No. 3598 WEDNESDAY, MARCH 19, 1862. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offende s, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MR. W. IX BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. %* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should, be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Setters addressed to the Editor must l » e prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descri;. linns of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE G AZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AMD MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the 24th ultimo, the dead body of a female child was taken from the river Wye, in the parish of Whitchurch, Herefordshire ; it was wrapped in a piece of fine cloth and some of old bed- sacking. A piece of tape was tied tightly round the neck. An inquest was held on the body before H. Underwood, Esq., on the 28th ult.; it appeared from the evidence of the medical gentleman who made the post- mortem examination, that the child was born alive, had lived some time after birth, and had been born about ten days before the in quest. The jury returned a verdict of " Wilful Murder against some person or persons at present unknown." Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Shire- hall, Hereford ; to the Superintendent of Police, Harewood- end, Ross, Hereford- shire ; or at any Constabulary Station in the county of Here- ford.— Bow- street, March 7. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. On the night of the 10th instant, some person or persons wilfully and maliciously set fire to a large rick of Sainfoin Hay, the property of the Rev. James Davies, Braishfield, whereby it was entirely consumed. Whoever shall give such information to the Rev. James Davies, or to Mr. G. W. Hull, Superintendent of Police, Romsey, as will lead to the convic- tion of the offender or offenders shall receive <£ 20 reward.— Bow- street, March 14. On the evening of the 28th ultimo the farm buildings in the occupation of Mr. James Doolittle, farmer, of Kingswood, near Bewdley, Salop, were destroyed by fire, supposed by an incendiary. £ 10 reward will be paid by Mr. Doolittle to any person who will give such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. In- formation to be given to Mr. Superintendent McWilliatns, Bridgnorth; or to Sergeant Howells, Cleobury Mortimer, Salop.— Bow- street, March 12. Minster- street, Reading, in payment for a suit of clothes, by a man calling himself MR. JERVIS, who stated that he was in the employ of Messrs. Shoolbred and Co., drapers, of Tottenham Court- road, and travelling to purchase bankrupts' stock, which has been ascertained to be false. He is about 40 years of age, stoutly made, full features, dark hair, little or no whiskers, crippled in both legs, walks with crutches, of respectable appearance, and supposed to be wearing a black sack coat, edges bound with braid, vest of the same material, dark steel mixed cloth trousers, and black hat. He left Reading by the 6 p. m. train, South- Eastern Railway, for London, on the 23rd ultimo, and had then with him two carpet bags. Information to be given to Mr. John Peck, Chief Superintendent of the Reading Police, who holds a wan- ant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 7. FORGERY. Further information respecting the man calling himself Mr. JERVIS, charged with passing a forged £ 5 Bank of England Note at the shop of Mr. Wyatt, Minster- street, Reading, Berks, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 7th instant and subsequent dates. He was tried in London about eight years ago for uttering forged notes, and sentenced to twenty years' penal servitude, and is now on ticket- of- leave. His real name is WILLIAM MASON, by trade a tailor. Information to be given to Mr. John Peck, Chief Superinten- dent of Police, Reading, Berks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 19. Absconded on the 25th ultimo, from No. 26, Fore- street, City, charged with forging a cheque for £ 85, on Messrs. Spooner and Attwood's Bank, THOMAS SOUTHBY, 32 years of age ( but looks younger), 5 feet 7 inches high, slightly built, long thin features, thin black hair, no whiskers, very pale complexion,' long thin prominent nose, thin fingers, peculiar hands, very dirty broad nails, of melancholy appear- ance, is very nervous when spoken to, and has a habit of frequently scratching his chin ; dresses slovenly, supposed in black frock coat, and hat, with the name of ' McCarthy, Snow Hill.' A warrant has been issued for his apprehension. Infor- mation to be given to Inspector Hamilton, City of London Police, Detective Office, No. 26, Old Jewry, London, E. C.— — Brno- street, March 14. * On the evening of the 22nd ultimo, a forged £ 5 Bank of England Note, dated London, 6th November, 1860, and signed W. P. Gattie, was passed at the shop of Mr. W. Wyatt, tailor, ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person, abont 4 p. m. on the 15th instant, on the Old Trafford Race Ground, Stretford, near Manchester, a silver Geneva Watch. Information to be given to the Super- intendent of Police, Eccles, near Manchester.— Bow- street, March 19. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, during the steeple chases on the racecourse at Bangor, Flintshire, on the 14th instant, a silver Watch, maker Joyce, Whitchurch, No. 8270. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Hains, Whit- church, Salop ; or to Inspector Bolton, Hanmer, Flintshire.— Bow street, March 19. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, on Aintree Race- course, on the 11th instant, a silver lever Watch, maker's name, Robert Lowe, Preston. Also, on the 12th instant, a small silver hunting Watch. And also, on the 12, th instant, a silver Watch, marked ' Cox, Savory, 47, Cornliill, London, No. 8025. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Bootle, Lancashire.— Bow- street, March 17. Stolen from the person of a lady, near the Grand Stand, on the Bangor Racecourse, during the steeplechases, on the 14th instant, a Portmonnaie, containing a Sovereign and 17s. in Silver. Also, from the person of another female, on the same ground, a Portmonnaie, containing a Half- sovereign, 8s. or 10s. in Silver, and five return railway Tickets, Wrexham to Chester. Also, from the person of John Downs, a silver verge Watch, much worn. Also, from the person of Charles Bostock, a silver verge Watch. Information to be given to Inspector Batton, Flintshire Constabulary, Hanmer.— Bow- street, March 17. Stolen from the person of Mrs. Waidson, Welshpool, on the 10th instant, fair day, a Pocket- book, containing a few silver Coins and an octagonal hoop keeper Ring, which can be identified, the book has been found. £ 1 reward will be paid on the conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to the Police, Welshpool.— Bow- street, March 14. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. On the night of the 17th instant, the house of Mr. Mason, No. 21, East- street, was entered from the back, and the fol- lowing Plate stolen : a chased silver Pepper Box, about 5 in. high, of old design ; a chased silver Mustard Pot and Spoon, of modern make ; four circular silver Salt Cellars, on small feet, two of which are bevelled round the edge, and two plain, marked with the initials ' W. M. M.'; and four Salt Spoons, marked ' W. M. M.' Information to be given to Mr. Everett, Superintendent of the Chichester Police.— Bow- street, March 19. On the 16th instant, between 2- 30 and 8- 45 p. m. the house of Mr. Joseph Hanson, of Ley Moor Bottom, Golcar, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen there- from : a gold Geneva lever Watch, chased case, horizontal movement, gold dial, and steel hands ; a gold diamond- cut Watch Guard ; a plain gold Ring, very thick ; two common plated Brooches, one set with a red stone, and the other has a stag in the centre ; two Is.- pieces, old coin, one stamped with ' W. M.' on one side ; and a small tortoise- shell Box, about 3in. long, in the shape of a trunk. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Heaton, West Riding Constabulary Office, Huddersfield.— Bow- street, March 19. During the night of the 14tli instant the house and premises of Mr. James Mytton, draper, of Cleobury- Mortimer, in the county of Salop, was burglariously entered, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz. : a coloured silk Dress, blue and brown shot; a ditto, blue shot ground, and raised pattern in crimson ; about £ 20 worth of silk Neck and Pocket- handkerchiefs, and gentlemen's silk Scarfs, of various colours and patterns ; about two dozen^ black silk Aprons, with blue, crimson, green, and violet borders, in two qualities, the commoner quality being much spotted with damp; a black silk Apron, with raised black border ; about a dozen alpaca ditto, black ground, with crimson, green, and blue border ; three pieces of black edged Silk, one piece about 30 yards, one about 12 yards, and the other about 24 yards ; a piece of white edged Silk, about 20 yards ; three or four pieces of black edged ditto, of about 3J yards each piece ; a silver Cruet Stand, marked ' M. E.', with silver tops of five bottles ; and an old- fashioned silver Tea Spoon, marked ' C.' The footmarks of two persons were found on the premises, one of them being that of a smart made boot, small size 9| inches in length, the other larger. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent McWilliam, Bridgnorth ; or to Sergeant Howells, County Constabulary, Cleobury Mortimer, Salop.— Bow- st., March 19. During the afternoon of the 16th instant the dwelling- house of Mr. Horobbin, auctioneer, Stafford- street, Walsall, was entered during the absence of the family, by means of skeleton keys, and a £ 5 Bank of England Note, two old- fashioned silver verge Watches, an old- fashioned bright metal pinchbeck Watch, a gold Ring set with rubies, a gold Ring set with pearls, and a Wedding Ring stolen therefrom. Infor- mation to be given to Mr. J. W. Cater, Chief Superintendent of Police, Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, March 19. Between the hours of 6 30 p. m. on the 16th, and 9 30 a. m. on the 17th instant, the unoccupied dwelling- house of Mr. Charles Garness, of the parish of Wellington, near Eastbourne, Sussex, was broken into, and the following property stolen from a chest therein, viz.; eleven Sovereigns, fifteen Shillings in Silver, a grey Topcoat, a black frock Coat, a grey Shooting Jacket, a pair of black cloth Trousers, a pair of grey ditto, a pair of brown ditto, a pair of grey plaid ditto, two black Vests, and a light cloth ditto. Information to be given to Mr. Super- intendent James Flanagan, EaSt Sussex Constabulary, Hailsham, or at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes.— Bow- st., March 19. Between the hours of 11 p. m. on the 13th instant, and 5 a. m. the following morning, the shoe- shop of James Shaw, of Delph, was burglariously entered by means of boring a circular hole through one of the window shutters and breaking a pane of glass in the window, and the following property stolen therefrom: six pairs of women's Boots, with patent leather sides, and black cloth tops ; six pairs of women's patent leather Slippers; six pairs of boy's lace- up Boots, with brass eyelet holes; six pairs of girl's patent leather Slippers, with ankle straps; and three or four pairs of children's Boots, commonly called ' batts,' which button up the front. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Grisdale, West Riding of York- shire Constabulary, Saddlewortli.— Bow- street, March 17. On the night of the 14th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr, Francis White, of Brampton- en- le- Morthen, Yorkshire, farmer, was broken and entered thmr: U tL'p pantry window, and the following property stolen therfefrom : a gold hunting Watch, plain cases, ' James White' engraved on the inside case, had a small Albert curb Chain attached with a small cross bar instead of a key ; two silver Table Spoons, marked ' L.'; a small ditto, marked ' L.'; an old- f'ashioned ditto, marked T. M.'; ten silver Tea Spoons, one of them a little bent at the bowl. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Gillett, Court House, Rotherham; or to Sergeant Smalley, Hands- worth, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, March 17. Twenty Pounds reward is offered for the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons who committed the burglary at the shop and dwelling- house of William Greenwood, grocer, Peckett Well, in the township of Wadsworth, in the West Riding of Yorkshire, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 10th instant (£ 10 by the said William Greenwood, and the further sum of £ 10 will be paid by the Treasurer of the New- delight Society for the Prosecution of Felons). Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Henry Wardle, or to Mr. Inspector Tucker, West Riding Constabulary, Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, March 17. Between 12 p. m. on the 13th and 7 a. m. on the 14th inst., the dwelling- house of Mr. Samuel Russel, surgeon of Blyth, Notts, was entered and the following property stolen there- from : 1 plated Waiter, with silver edges,' W.' engraved in the centre. 1 pair of silver Sugar Tongs'. 1 small silver Salve Box. 2 silver Salt Spoons, engraved ' S. A. R.' 1 silver Tea Spoon, engraved ' H.' 1 electro- plated Mustard- pot, with silver Spoon. 1 Pepper Castor with silver top. 2 silver Thimbles and a silver Pencil- case. 1 fancy Pencil- case. 1 Telescope and silver Surgical Tube. 1 Odd Fellow's silver Medal. 8 Surgical Instruments. 1 brown cloth Coat. Information to be given to Superintendent Cheatle, County Police Station, Worksop, Notts.— Bow- street, March 17. During the night of the 9th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Christopher Kendall, farmer, Pudsey, near Bradford, Yorkshire, was entered, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz. : a woollen black and white plaid Scarf Shawl; a black cloth Dress Coat, black braid laid on ; a black diagonal cloth Waistcoat; a pair of men's Boots, elastic sides, nearly new ; a black cloth Coat, very greasy on both sides; a silk Pocket- handkerchief, white middle and pink border; a ditto ditto, red and white flower in centre ; a cotton ditto, red and white border ; a silver Pencil- case ; and Is. 4d. in Money ; the property of the said Christopher Kendall. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Copeland, West Riding Con- stabulary, Bradford.— Bow- street, March 14. Between 10- 30 and 12 a. m. on the 9th instant, the dwel- ling- house of Mrs. Sarah Henderson, No. 2, Woodbine- street, South Shields, was entered by means of false keys during the absence of the family at church, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz.: four old- fashioned Tea Spoons, a Salt, and two Salt Spoons in the shape of fire- shovels, marked ' E. S. H.'; three old- fashioned Tea Spoons, two Table ditto, a Milk Pot, and a pair of Sugar Tongs, marked ' J. S. E.'; and a pair of Sugar Tongs, carved, but not marked. All the above articles are silver. Supposed by two men who were seen loitering about the premises, one a little taller than the other 2 POLICE GAZETTE. Infor- mation to he given to Mr. Thomas Richardson, Chief Con- stahle, Borough Police Office, South Shields, Durham.— Bow- street, March 12. Between 10 a. m. and 1 p. m. on the 8th instant the house of Isaac Naden, of Hayfield Nook, in the parish of Hartington- upon- Q, uarter, Derbyshire, was broken into, and a quantity of Clothing stolen therefrom, viz.: a black frock Coat, a black Waistcoat ( buttons up to the neck), two pairs of black Trousers, a snuff- coloured Jacket and Waistcoat, a pair of brown mix- ture cloth Trousers with broad stripes down the sides, a rough drab cloth Top Coat with brown buttons, a brown calico Shirt with linen fcont, a red Neckerchief, a yellow- Pocket Hand- kerchief, a light- coloured ditto with faded red spots, two pairs of Stockings, a light cloth Cap, a pair of Wellington Boots wanting soleicg, . a pair of Razors, and a pair of Balmoral Boots lately heeled, with a patch on the side of the right boot. Sup- posed'l) y two tramps who were begging at the house, and saw- it locked up and left by the family. One is about 28 years, 5 f£. 7 or 8 in. high, slender make, light complexion, and dressed in dirty drab stable jacket and trousers; the other is about 30 years of age, about' 5 feet G inches high, dark complexion, dark hair and whiskers, and wearing a dark coat. They were seen going in the direction of Derby or Uttoxeter, and will most likely try to sell or pledge the above articles in some of the adjoining towns in Derbyshire or Staffordshire. ' HORSE AND CATTLE STEALUKk in the parish of Wood a bav Found, on the 27th ultimo, Norton, Norfolk, and supposed to have been stolen Mare Pony, 6 years old, 14 hands high, white star on forehead, cnt tail, and has been blistered on near shoulder. Information to be given to Inspector Bayes, Reepham ; or to P. C. Gunton, Hindolveston, Norfolk.— Bow- street, March 19. Stolen, > 0n the night of the 14th instant, from a field in the parish of Rugby, a black horse Pony, of the Welsh breed, 6 years old, about' 12J - hands high, long mane and tail, very light made, newly shod, shoes stamped ' T. H.' and has been chafed on both sides by the shafts, the property of Mr. Samuel Perkins, baker. Information to ba given to Mr. James Wild, Superintendent of Police, Rugby, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, March 17. Supposed to have been stolen, from Sneaton Moor, near Whitby, in the North Riding of Yorkshire, between the 21st ultimo and the 1st instant, seven Moor Ewe Sheep, and a half- . bred Ewe, all burnt across the nose, and a piece cut out of each ear, top of off ear, and under near one, and marked ' W.' with tar on near side. Information to be given to Mr. H. McGregor, Superintendent of Police, Whitby, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, March 17. Supposed to have been stolen from Welshpool Fair on the 10th instant, a shall red yearling Heifer, with a smoky face, the property of E. Owen, of Aberhafesp. Information to be given to Sergeant Stvefford, Welshpool.— Bow- street, March 14. LARCENY AND EMBEmEMEKf . GEORGE DEELEY CHAVASSE, advertised in the Police Gazete of the 14th instant, charged with stealing a Cheque for £ 200 at Birmingham, has been apprehended.— Bow- , March 19. Absconded from Sleaford on the 14th instant, a young man about 19 years of age, a pipemaker's apprentice, charged with stealing a Watch, which has been recovered. He is about 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, very little or no whiskers, vacant appearance, large eyes, long full face, long brown hair, and rather thick lips; he is supposed to be in his working dress, which is shabby. He no doubt will seek employment at his trade. Information to be given to Richard Pearmain, Super- intendent of Police, Sleaford, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, March 19. Absconded from the borough of Northampton, on or about the 8th instant, charged with embezzling about £ 30, be- longing to the Northampton Progressionists Industrial Society, JOSEPH MORRIS, a grocer, about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, sallow complexion, light brown hair, rather full grey eyes, small quantity of hair on his chin, slightly bow- legged, and walks quick; dressed in dark cloth coat with skirts rounded off, new cord trousers, and black turban hat. Information to be given to Mr. Henry Keenan, Chief of Police, Northampton.— Bow- street, March 19. Absconded from Wortham, Suffolk, on the 11th instant, charged with felony, CHARLES NUNN, labourer, 18 years of age, about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, light complexion, no whiskers; dressed in brown velvet frock coat, dark cord trousers, and black cap. Information to be given to P. C. S. G. Reeve, Palgrave, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, March 19. Stolen, about 12 p. m. on the 15th instant, from the ship ' Jean,' in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, the property of Captain Thomas Lynas: a blue pilot cloth Jacket, hole burnt in the right side by a pipe, wooden buttons ; a blue cloth Vest; a black satin ditto ; a black cloth ditto, with watch pocket in left breast; a pair of Cossack Boots, pegged and toe capped; a blue cloth Cap with red leather lining; a black cloth Cap with cloth peak. Also stolen, from the ship ' Glide,' the property of Captain Emanuel Wells: a blue pilot cloth Jacket, leather strap on back of collar, green serge lining, wooden buttons; a black cloth Shooting Jacket, two pockets beihind and one inside left breast; a pair of blue pilot cloth Trousers ; a pair of mixture cloth ditto, which have been recently repaired; a black cloth Vest; three pairs of white and about seven pairs of dark grey lambswoo! Stockings, all marked ' E. W.' By two men of the following description : one, 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, tuft of hair under the chin ; dressed in bine pilot jacket, dark trousers, cloth cap, and low cossack boots, and carried a bundle : the other, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, long dark hair; dressed in flannel jacket, light trousers, black cloth cap, and muffler ; carried two bundles, one in an oil- skin bag and the other in a handkerchief. Information to be given to Mr. E. J. Saggerson, Chief Superintendent, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, March 19. Stolen, between 10 p. m. on the 8th, and C a. m. on the 9th instant, from the dwelling- house of Mr. Robert Seed, of Oak Bank, Skelsmergh, Westmoreland, bobbin manufacturer, an old- fashioned pair- cased silver verge Watch, maker's name Scott, Kendall, No. 5578, with silver Guard and brass Key attacbed ; a pair of watertight Boots, with new caulkers at heel and toe, and have been repaired; and about 7s. in Silver. By a youth about 1G years of age, 4 feet 10 inches to 5 feet high, with light brown hair, is slightly made, and has a scar on bridge of nose from a cut when a child ; he will no doubt be wearing the stolen boots, as he left his own clogs behind him : stated that he is a native of Glasgow, where his father still resides. Information to be given to Mr. E. Hibbard, Superin- tendent and Deputy Chief Constable, Kendal ; or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle.— Bow- st., March 17. Absconded between 6 and 7 a. m. on the 14th instant, from the ' Old Chesterfield Arms' public- bouse, Shepherd's Market ( stealing and taking with him the following articles belonging to John Burton, a lodger : a black Frock Coat, with two pockets behind, and one in the breast; a light tweed Jacket, Vest, and Trousers ; a red and black checked flannel Shirt; and a . pair of men's Balmoral Boots, with brass eyelet holes), the potman, 1,9 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, with fair complexion, blue eyes, very long dark liair, and walks very quick ; he is supposed to bu dressed inthe stolen clothing.— Metropolitan Police, C Division, March lY. P. H.,' others ' S. H.'; three Table Cloths ; a Toilet ditto, marked ' H.' or ' Y.' By two females, inmates, who have absconded, one 17 years of age, tall and fair, with blue eyes, light brown hair, and stoops : the other 21 years of age, short, with blue eyes, dark brown hair, low forehead, a red spot on right cheek, and a yellow mark on the left side of neck ; both dressed in grey derry gowns, brown jean petticoats, dark blue ditto, or the stolen clothes. He is about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, 35 to 40 years of age, brown hair, light sandy whiskers ( which will most likely be shaved off), full face, and his nose is a little turned up at the end ; dressed in a dark brown jacket, cord trousers, and a bowler bat, he is a native of Southampton, and a coach- body maker by trade. He was last heard of about the 20th of November, when he was seen at Aylesbury, and he then stated that he was going to Buckingham. P.' in blue ink on right arm, and scald on left arm ; dressed in an old brown coat and vest, old brown mixture trousers, and brown cap. He escaped from the lock- up and was retaken ; stated that he had made his escape twice before, once from a lock- up in London and was retaken, and once from Norwich, and was not retaken. Description of GEORGE SMITH, a soldier, who has been committed for trial for felony: he is 19 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, very light complexion, hair, and eyes, straight, and intelligent looking ; he is supposed to be known in Sussex and the neighbourhood of Hastings, where he some- times goes on leave. On his return from Hastings in October, 1861, he disposed of two Watches of the following description : a small gold Geneva Watch, with engraved back to case, open- 76.054 faced,' No. 396' on the inner part of dome, ' No. 18 ' on the 395 inner part of case ; and a silver Geneva horizontal open- faced Watch, with enamelled dial, make, Fisson, of Geneva, No. on dome and case,' 1476.' Information to be given to Edmund Weston, Superintendent, Kent Constabulary, Shorneliffe Camp. — Bow- street, March 17. Further information relative to the two prisoners adver- tised in the Police Gazette, of the 12th instant, as having escaped from Northleach House of Remand on the 10th instant. Their names are supposed to be McQUE ; their mother is an Iaishwoman ( widow), who travels much round Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Herfordshire, and in Birmingham, selling women's caps. Description of a young man in custody at Morpeth, and remanded until the 19th instant, charged with larceny. JOHN NELSON, a native of Glasgow, 18 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, with dark brown hair, swarthy complexion, and dark eyes, is proportionately made, and a weaver by trade; dressed in a black cloth coat, grey tweed cloth trousers and cap, blue striped cotton shirt, and without either shoes or stockings ; he states that he has tramped from Glasgow. It is suspected that he has committed offences elsewhere, or that he has been previously convicted. Information to be given to Mr. Superin- tendent Robert Cocks, Morpeth, Northumberland.— Bow- street, March 17. Further information respecting MARY ANN SADLER, JAMES SADLER, and HENRY MARSHALL, advertised in the Police Gazette, of the 7th instant and subsequent dates, as being committed for trial charged with stealing Bank of England Notes from the person of John Kerkham at Downham, on the lst instant. The prisoners were convicted at Swaff ham sessions, on the 13th instant, and sentenced each to twelve months' imprisonment. The notes, which have not been recovered, are a £ 20, No. 16349, date 8th November, 1861 ; a £ 10, No. 56,591, date 6th September, 1861 ; and a £ 5, No. 63017, date lst November, 1861 : on the upper right hand corner of each note is written ' J. Bacon, 27/ 2/ 62.' The prisoners state that a woman ' knows of the property': they describe her as 40 years of age, thin features, and slender figure; do not know her name and address, but that she travels the country under the cognomen of SAW CUTTER LIZ. She is 21 years of age, about 4 feet 9 inches high, stout figure, fair complexion, thin light brown liair, and hazel eyes ; dressed in a steel- coloured alpaca dress with two flounces trimmed with black velvet, black cloth jacket, with large ! sleeves, white crinoline bonnet trimmed with black velvet, red rosette, and pink strings; and had with her a shepherd's plaid wrapper. Stephenson, Hexham, Northumberland.— Bow- street, March 14. Two men of the following description stand committed till the 9th instant, charged with stealing from the hall of the ' Rose and Crown' hotel, Wisbeach, a Great Coat and a valuable Scarf Pin, which have been recovered ; they call themselves professors of legerdemain, and intrude themselves into hotels and taverns, during marts and fairs, ostensibly to display their tricks ; they are strongly suspected of having committed other offences, and to have been previously convicted. JOHN TYRRELL, alias SEATON, alias CARRILL, states that he is a native of Weymouth, but makes his home at Exeter, his wife and family residing at St. Thomas's, in that city, which is supposed to be false ; he also stated that he was formerly an equestrian performer at Astley's Amphitheatre, London, and that about ten years ago lie met with an accident while per- forming, by which severe injury was done to the knee- cap of the left leg: he is 35 years of age, 5 feet 5} inches high, rather dark complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, no whiskers, and the bridge of his nose has been broken ; had on a black cloth frock coat, pockets outside, black hat, black ribbed cloth trousers_( all shabby, but brushed up), Bedford cord waistcoat, blue scarf with small black spots, and high top shoes with brass eyelet holes, laced up in front. And LOUIS ROSSI, who states that he is a native of Lucca, Tuscany, feather and flower maker, Yard, St. George's, Norwich. " The prisoners were seen acting together at Downham, Lynn, and Winnold Fair. Description of two men remanded until the 18th instant, charged with picking pockets : one says his name is EDWD. SHARPE, of Leicester, a horse dealer's man, 28 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 6| inches high, dark brown hair, rather long, no whiskers, hazel eyes, stout made, has a black spot near the out- side corner of left eye, and one on the centre of left cheek ; the other says his name is ROBERT SIMPSON, alias WILLIAM JOHNSON, of Rotherham, but has lived a good deal at Wol- verhampton, 18 to 20 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, light brown hair, grey eyes, pale long face, no whiskers, has a cut mark on the left side of the bridge of the nose, seven blue dots on the flat of right arm, the same on each side of left arm, and the same on the left hand near the top of the thumb ; it is strongly suspected that they have committed offences elsewhere. Description of a young man under remand at Bridgnorth, Salop, charged with obtaining money under false pretences, viz, by stating that he was a moulder, and had got work in the town, but his box with his tools was at the railway station, and that he had to pay 2s. 9d. carriage before he could fetch it away, all of which is false. He gave the names of JOHN TAYLOR, JOHN BAKER, WILLIAM PEARSON, and RICHARD PRITCHARD, the last being, he says, his right name, 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, with light brown hair, no whiskers, very fair complexion, stoutly made, and rather good- looking; dressed in a black cloth cap with peak, blue pilot jacket, moleskin waistcoat and trousers, good laced boots with brass eyelet holes, wore a brown silk watch- guard with common key and a piece of metal instead of a watch attached; states that he belongs to Netherton, near Dudley. Description of a youth who stands committed for trial at the Midsummer Sessions for robbery from the person, he says his name is JOHN MORRIS, son of the late Owen Morrisj a hawker, of Canal- street, Wolverhampton, 17 to 20 years of age, 5 feet li inches high, hazel eyes, thin freckled face, sandy hair ( cut short), has a deep cut mark on right side of top of fore- head, three marks on left jaw, laTge fawn freckles on the left shoulder, a mole on waist over the backbone, and a wound mark at top of hip behind ; it is strongly suspected that he has been previously convicted of felony and that he has committed offences elsewhere. The two men advertised in the Police Gazette of the 12th instant, charged with stealing a quantity of sawyer's Tools from Romsey Extra, have been apprehended at Froine, Somer- setshire, and committed to take their trial at the ensuing quarter sessions at Winchester, and it is supposed that they have been convicted for similar offences elsewhere ; they give their names as JOHN HOWELLS and WILLIAM WARREN, and state that they belong to Cambridge. Further information respecting the robbery committed at Mrs. Fowler's, of the ' Three Tuns,' Ironbridge, on the 8th instant, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 12th instant and subsequent dates : a small Photographic Likeness of Mrs. Fowler and a very small brown tin Box were stolen in addition to the Money and Purses. The £ 5 notes were a good deal soiled and one of them had been cut through and pieced. Three men, of the following description, are suspected, who hired a conveyance between 11 and 12 on the same night, to take them to Wolverhampton, where they arrived about 1 on the follow- ing morning, and were put down at St. George's Church in the Cleveland- road ; 1st about 45 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark hair and whiskers, very stout, and good looking; 2nd about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, brown hair, fair complexion, and supposed to have an imperial or tuft of hair on his chin ; 3rd 20 to 30 years of age, and appears active and quick ; they were all dressed in dark clothes, with black hats and overcoats with capes. Supposed by three navvies, who left Yaxley on the 16th instant to seek fmploy- njent on the railway at St. Neot's, Ilitchin, or London : one, about 28 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, small tuft of hair on chin, blue eyes; dressed in fustian suit ( the coat has large pockets inside and out) and black hairy cap : another, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, no whiskers, light hair and complexion ; dressed in fustian suit and black cap: and the other, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark hair and complexion ; dressed in cord jacket, fustian trousers, ' and black cap. They all walk very erect, and the latter two are smart- looking young men. They are very likely to have the stolen property with them, and to offer it for sale on the road.
