The Names of Persons charged with Offences, who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of identity. The Names qf Accomplices ana Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, qf Property that has been Stolen, and a minute Description qf Stolen Horses, for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. No. 1801. MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 1850. Wotlce.— It is requested that all communications, for the purpose of obtaining, or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may BEAR THE signature of the Person sending or requiring the same, and be addressed to MR. BURNABY, the EDITOR, Police- court, Bow- strect, London. •.• Whenever it is desired that any individual, by name, shall be apprehended, it is indispensably necessary that an attested copy of an Information sworn before a Magistrate, should be transmitted to the Editor, together with the Advortigomct for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. It ia particularly desired that, in all Informations, the names of Persona and Places may be SPELT correctly, and WRITTEN plainly, to prevent mistakes. And that in application for the POLICE GAZETTE, the County, and the nearest Post- town, should the place not be one, may also he stated. And as no charge is made for the insertion of any articlc in the POLICE GAZETTE, AIL letters addressed to the Editor, MOST BC pre- paid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. dated 11th February, 1850, Nos. 47918, 47919, 47920, 60732 ; two £ 50 dated 9th May, 1850, Nos. 45127, 45128 ; and five £ 5 Notes, dated 3rd August, 1850, Nos. 28895 to 28899 inclusive. Payment of the above Notes has been stopped at tha Bank of England.— Whoever will, within twenty- one days from this date, give such information as shall to the recovery of the above- descibed Notes ( if lost), or to the recovery and conviction of the offender ( if stolen), shall receive £ 50 Reward, or a proportionate part ther of for any of the Notes „ o reco- vered, on application to Messrs. Bush and Mullens, solicitors, St. Mildred's Court, Poultry ; or to J. or D. Forrester, Police- office, Mansion- house, London.— Bow- street, September 25. The following is a description of Watches stolen from Persons during the race- week at Doncaster, viz.: a large old- fashioned gold Watch, marked ' G. Wilson' on the body of the watch ; a valuable gold Watch, duplex escapement, makers' names ' Dubois and Thesior ;' a silver Watch, with white dial, rim of glass silver- gilt, maker's name ' H. Pelt, Brunelles, No. 7710 ;' and a silver lever Watch, jewelled in four holes, maker ' R. W. Lloyd, No. 115.'— Information to be given to William- son Etches, chief constable, Doncaster, who is authorized to pay a Reward on the recovery of all or part of the property, on conviction of the offenders.— Bow- street, September 25. INFORMATIONS, ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. On the night of the 19th instant, a Building belonging to Dimacks Mill, the property of J. Lee, Esq., Red Brook, in the county of Flint, was set on Fire, by a Man about 5 feet 10 inches high, dressed in a very old black coat, old cord trou- sers, old hat, and without shoes or stockings ; as he was seen running from the building a few minutes before the fire broke out. He is supposed to be going about the country, begging, Any one apprehending the said Man or giving information to James Steen, police- offioer, Malpas, shall receive a Reward of £ 5 upon his conviotion.— Bow- street, September 24. BOBBERY PROM THE PERSON. Lost or stolen, between 9 and 18 o'olook on the evening of the 26th instant, in the borough of Manchester or Salford, from a gentleman, while intoxicated, a centre- seconds gold pocket Chronometer, with engine- turned back and white dial, makers ' Barrauds and Lund, London, No. 2/ 768,' the owner's name engraved inside ; strong gold curb Guard attached.— A Reward of £ 20 will be paid on application to Richard Bes- wick, chief superintendent of police, Detective Department, Town Hall, King- street, Manchester.— Bow- street, September 8tolen, on the night of the 20th instant, from the Person of William Walton, whilst asleep in the dancing- room of the ' Horse and Jockey' public house, Spalding, during the fair, a large silver pair- oaBe Watch, maker's name ' Richard Wallett, No. 1821,' the case bruised against the pendant; a steel Chain, with two Seals and two Keys attached, one of the Seals having the stone out.— Information to be given to Robert Judd, Sessions House, Spalding, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, September 30. Stolen, from the Person of a Gentleman, on the evening of the 23ru instant, supposed in the neighbourhood of Granby- row, Manchester, a gold horizontal Watch, with gold dial, and engine- turned back, maker ' H. Lambert, Ludgate- street, Lon- don, No. 41.— A Reward of £ 2 will be paid to *\ ny person giv- ing such information as shall to the apprehension and convic- tion of the offender or offenders and recovery of the Watch, on application to Richard Beswick, chief superintendent of police, Detective Department, Town Hall, King- street, Man- chester.— Bow- street, September 30. Stolen, on the 26th instant, from a Gentleman, while in New- street. St, Luke's, a silver Watch, engine- turned, maker's name ' C. Griffiths,' with ' T. G. engraved on the back of the case. By a Female, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh oomplexion, and brown hair ; dressed in a light gown, dark shawl, and straw bonnet, trimmed with dark rib- bon.— Metropolitan Police, G- Dirision, Septembec 28. Stolen, about 2 p. m. of the 25th instant, from the Per- son of Miss Wall, 4, Woodfield- terrace, Harrow- road, the property of Mr. Daniel Howe, a £ 10 Bank of England Note, ' No. 80 674,' dated ' July 5th, 1850,' and marked ' M. D. ;' and a Sovereign.— Metropolitan Police, D Division, September 27. Stolen, on the 24th instant, from a Gentleman, while in a dark oourt, in the neighbourhood of Vauxhall, a silver lever Watch, maker ' Morgan, No. 41662.' By a Female, about 24 years of age, tall and thin, dark complexion, and dressed in dark clothes.— Metropolitan Police, J, Division, September 26, Stolen, from the Person of a Gentleman, on the 24th inst. between Wellington- street, Borough, and Bishopsgate- street the undermentioned Bank of England Notes, viz.; four £ 100, M © USE- BREAKING. The House of the Rev. George Edward Hollest, at Frim- ley- grove, Surrey, was, on the night of the 27th instant, broken and entered by several Men, two of whom ( rather short and stout), prrsented themselves in disguise at the bedside of the Rev. Mr. Hollest, and one of them shot at and wounded him. The following articles were stolen: a round plated Sugar- basin ; a silver Snuff- box; a small antique ditto ; a gold Ring, with bloodstone, with the words ' Forget me not' engraved on it in old English ; a Cup and Paten ( pocket com- munion) ; a gold Watch, maker's name ' Murray, Cornhill, No. 1899 ;' a small old French Watch; a silver hunting Watch, the silver Tops of the Cruet- stands; and a silver Table- spoon, much worn at the top.— Bow- street, September 30. On the night of the 27th instant, or early the following morning, the Dwelling- house of Mr. Spencer, tailor, of Fitzroy- street, in the borough of Cambridge, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz.: three yards of black doeskin Cloth ; six lengths of black single Cashmere, | yard in each ; 2 § yards of oxford- mixture Doeskin, large oheck pattern ; yards of olive ditto, with yellow stripe ; yards of ditto, with grey stripe ; 2£ or 2$ yards'of grey mixed ditto, diagonal striped ; 4i yards of mixed Doeskio ; 1 iyard of blue plush Vesting ; f " yard of olive Vesting, large black check ; | yard of fawn drab Doeskin ; f yard of blaos and scarlet flowered Vesting; 2| yards of olive mixed Doe- skin ; 6 yards of Tweed ; a tweed Coat; 2 yards of brown Beaver ; If yards of superfine o ive Doeskin ; and a quantity of Remnants, of various descriptions and lengths, from f to If yard long.— Information to be given to Wm. Jaggard, su- perintendent of police, Cambridge.— Bow- street, September 30. Between the hours of half- past four and half- ps st five, on the afternoon of the 22nd instant, during the absence of the inmates, the Dwelling- hou3e of Mrs. Mountford, of Coalbourne Brook, near Stourbridge, was entered through the kitchen window, and the following articles stolen therefrom, viz.: a gold Brooch, amber centre, pearls and garnet setting ; a gold Brooch, centre ruby, brilliant setting ; a black jet Brooch, a pair of amethyst Ear- rings a pair of cameo Bracelets ( heads), a gentleman's gold mourning Pin, hair, ' In memory of;' a gentleman's gold Pin, a garnet Necklace, a coral Necklace, a gold albert Watch- chain, three gold Studs, and ten Sovereigns. — Information to be given at the Police- station, Brierly Hill.- Bow- street, September 28. The House of Henry Godden, Esq., of Somcrfield, Maid- stone, was broken into on the night of the 25th instant, or early on the following morning, and three silver Castors, one larger than the others, all with coats of arms, a silver chased 8ugar- basin, a plated Cruet- stand, and various other articles, were stolen therefrom.— A Reward of £ 20 will be paid to any person who shall give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, on application to Thomas Fancett, superintendent of polioe, Maid- stone.— Bow- street, September 27. Further particulars respecting the robbery at the House of the Rev. Mr. Kitcat, No. fi, Albion- plaoe ( instead of Wel- liagton- place), Reading, advertised in the ' Police Gazette' of the 25th instant.—- Whoever will give such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, shall receive a Reward of £ 5. Information to be given to Henry Houlton, superintendent of police, Reading, Berks.— Bow- street, September 27. Absconded, on the 17th instant, GEORGE HARRIS, alias GEORGE HARMAN, labourer, charged with breaking and entering the Dwelling- house of Charles Serle, of Fontley, i near Fareham, Hants, and stealing therefrom a Watch, and other articles ; the whole of which have been recovered, except the watch, which is of the following description : large, old- fashioned, single silver case, stops and seconds, ' No. 4882,' roman figures. HARRIS is about 27 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, has brown hair, rather full face, freck'ed, no whiskers, several large leech- marks on the left breast, is well- made, walks erect, states he has been in the East India Com- pany s service, is fond of singing, and looks red in the face when drinking ; dressed, when he absconded, iu a new fustian shooting- coat with large pockets, brown fustian trousers with light stripe and torn at the right knee, light waistcoat, red pattern silk neckerchief, blue cloth cap with email peak, a » d lace- up boots. He has lately been employed at the county lunatic asylum, and is supposed to be a native of East Chol- derton, near Andover. Was seen, on the 18th instant, going ii the direction for Salisbury, and stated be was going to Bristol.— Information to be given to Superintendent Harvey, Hants constabulary, Fareham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 26. Stolen, from the Dwelling- house of Mrs. George Pool, oil the night of the 24 th instant, or the following morning, two silver Salt- spoons, crest, a hand and flower ; a Bilver Pepper- box, plain; p » rt of a silver Spoon, mach worn; about 3 lbs. of raw milch Cheese, two pork Chops, snd a piece of Mutton. The entrance WHB effected at the back part of the house.— Whoever will give such information as shall lead to the appre- hension and conviction of the offender or offenders, shall re- ceive £ 2 It award, on application to William Tucker, constable, Axminster.— Bow- street, September 26. Stolen, during the night of the 22nd instant, by breaking into the Bake house at Belhaven, in the county of Haddington, occupied by George Mason, baker, a single- cased silver Watch, patent lever, seconds- hand, maker ' J. Jones, 338, Strand, London,' number unknown ; a silver Guard- chain, and a new Crown Piece: the property of William Aitchison, apprentice to the said George Mason. Supposed by a baker on tramp to England.— Information to be given to the Superintendent of county police, Haddington.— Bow- street, September 26. At about 2 or 3 o'clock on the morning of the 24th instt., New House, near Gravesend, was burglariously entered, and divers articles Btolen therefrom, amongst which was a carriage Clock, in rosewood cas?, maker's name ' Brequet, a Paris ;' the key was not taken.— Whoever will give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or effender, shall receive a Reward of £ 100, on application to W. North, super- intendent of police, Gravesend.— Bow- street, September 26. Some evil- disposed person or persons did feloniously break and enter St. Mary's Cottage, near Brecon, the residence of Mr. Philip Vaughan, on the night of the 19th instant, and steal therefrom a Writing- desk, and arussia- leather Eavelope- oase, which has since been found.— A Reward of £ 5 will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviotion of the offender or offenders, on application to Mr. Philip Vaughan, St. Mary's Cottage, Brecon, South Wales.— Bow- street, September 26. Some person or persons unknown did, in the night of the 24th instant, feloniously break and enter the Cheese room of Mr. Edward Perry, of the township of Walgherton, in the county of Chester, and steal therefrom four Cheeses, namely, three old ones and one new one, cf the average weight of from 40 lbs. to 50 lbs. each.— A Reward of £ 5 will be paid to any person or persons who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, by the Secretary of the Doddington Association for the Prosecution of Felons. Information to be given to Charles Laxton, special high constable, Nantwich.— Bow- street, Septem- ber 26. On the evening of the 22nd instant, during Divine Ser- vice, the Dwelling- house of Mr. Strong, Castle- street, Reading, in the county of Berks, was entered, and the following articles were stolen therefrom, viz.: three silk Handkerchiefs, and four silver Tea- spcons. some of them marked' S.'— Information to be given to Henry Iloulton, superintendent of polioe, Read- ing, Berks.— Bow- street, September 25. On the night of the 23rd instant, the Dwelling- house of the Rav. Mr. Kitcat, Wellington- place, in the borough of Read- ing, was entered, and the following articles were stolen there- from, viz. : an old- fashioned mousniog Eye- glass, mounted in gold and tlaok, opens with a spring, and the glass cracked across; a Flute, mounted with silver, and twelve silver Keys, maker's name ' Monzini; a'so, a variety of now pieces of Money, including a£ 2- piece of Queen Victoria; Half- crowns, Shillings Sixpences, and silver Penny- pieces of the few last reigns ; also, a Sovereign, and several Half- crowns.— Informa- tion to be given to Henry Houlton, superintendent of police, Reading, Berks.— Bow- street, September 25. Further particulars respecting the Burglary and property stolen at the Rev. 0. E. Vidal's, of Upper Dicker, Arlington, Sussex, and advertised in the ' Police Gazette' of the 23rd instant: a large gold Seal, with square face, crest, an arm and hand, holding a banner, charged with a bee ; a gold Seal, with square face, engraved a bird flying, with the motto ' Pro gleria panata,'— were stolen therefrom.— Information to be given to Superintendent Harper, Lewes, Sussex, or to Inspector G. Davis, Hailsham.- - Bow- street, September 25. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen, ori the night of the 28th instant, or early tha following morning, from the Stable of Mr. Thomas Campbell, of Redbourn, near Brigg, a Dark- Bay Horse, sged, broken- winded, near hind legs much swollen, and has a runniDg wound on the near thigh below the stiflle- joint; and an old Saddle and Bridle.— Information to be given to R. Potton, superintendent- constable, Brigg.— Bow- street, Sep'ember 30. The Sheep advertised as fto'en or strayed from Dedpham, Norf jlk, on the 21st instant, have been found and restored to the owner.— Bow- street, September 30. Stolen or strayed, on the night of the 23. d instant from a Field at Pedmore, in the county of Worcester, a half- bred Black Mare, about 14 hands 3 inches high, one white hind foot, t, nd the hair lately rubbed off the shoulders by the collar. — Information to be given to P. C. Wm. Bourgean, Hayling, Worcestershire.— Bfw- street, September 30. Stolen or strayed, from a Field in the palish of Pedmore. In the county of Worcester, on the night of the 22nd instant, a Biack Mare, 6 years old, 14 hands 3 inches hifih, swich tail, the off h; nd foot white, and the hair rubbed off the shoulders by tbe collar : the property of Mr. Stephen Hipkins, of Ted more.— Information to be given to Henry Burton, superin- tendent of police, Stourbridge, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, September 30. Sto'en or strayed, but supposed to be stokn, from a Field • at Dosthill, near Fazeley, in the occupation of Mrs. Farmer on the night of the 27th instant, or early the following morn- ing, a Black Cart Mare, with light legs, aged, about 15 hands high, and has a broken knee.— £ 10 will be paid to any perscn giving such information a? will lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, en application to the aforesaid M- s. Farmer ; if strayed, any person restoring her shall be hand- somely rewarded.— Bmostreet, September 30. The Dar', c Bay Mare advertised lh the ' Police Gszstte' of the 25th instant, as detained at Whittlesey ( supposed to be stolen), ' nas been restored to Mr. William Good, the owner.— Bow-' ireet, September 30. Stolen or strayed, on the evening of the 27th instant, from Fold- gate Farm, near Ludlow, ten Sheep of the Radnor- shire Forest breed, marked with dark ruddle Upon the top of the shoulders, and a spot cf light- coloured ruddle upon the Soia; soae of them are pitch- marked with a small cross on the right side or shoulder, and. others with a similar mark on the right thigh, and hid long tails.- - If stolen, any person who will give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, shall receive £ 5 Reward, on applies tion to Mr. John Tench, of Ludlow ; if strayed, shall be handsomely rewarded, and all reasonable expenses will be paid on the restoration of the same, on application as above. Yull, farmer, Romford, a Bay Mare, rather more than 13 bands high, about 8 years old, black legs Jong mane, and very long fore top ; a colt was taken from her justibefore she was mis iag, and consequently Bhe must have a good bag of milk.— Any person who will give such information as shall lead to the recovery of the same, and apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders ( if stolen), shall be handsomely remunerated, and all reasonable expenses will be paid, on. application to Mr. Curran, at the New Mill, Rom- ford, or to Mr. John Reardon. horse dei'er, the ' Ram Inn, West Smithfield. Edwin Lascelles, Harewood, on tho night of th- i 25th instant, or early • the following mirning. a Dark Iron- grey Mare Pony, 3 years old, nearly 14 hands high, switch tail, strong made, and had no shoes on the biad feet.— If stolen, whoever will give such information as will lead fo the conviction of tbe offender or offenders, shall receive Five Guineas Reward, on application to Mr. Edward Brown, Hon. Secretary to the Harewood Asso- ciation for the Prosecution of Felons, Harewood.— Bow- street, September 28. Stolen, on the night of the 25th instant, or early the fol- lowing morning, from a Field at Tetlow- fold, in the township of Broughton, near Manchester, the property of Mr. Edward D'Orville, a Black Mare- Pony, 8 years old, about 12 hands high, has a star in the forehead, a white spot on the nose, the oil eye walled, the near hind fetlock white, the off hind fetlock greasy, a long mane and tail, and supposed to be in foal.— In- formation to bo given to the Superintendent of the County Constabulary, Pendleton, near Manchester.— Bow- street, Sep- tember 28. Stolen or strayed, on the 26th instant, from a Field in the borough of Macc'esfield, a Black Filly, rising 3 years old. about 15 hands high, one white hind foot, a few white hairs on the flank and body, a star in the forehead, a long tail, and • of the light cart breed.— Information to be given to William Harper, chief constable, Town- hall, Macclesfield.— Bow- street, September 28. Stolen, on the 27th instant, from the parish of East Dereham, the property of Mr. Robert Ramsdale, a handsome Cob Mare, with switch tail, 5 years old, 14 hands high, Roan colour, is a fast trotter, and in excellent condition.— Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Abbott, at East Derebam ; or at the Chief Constables Office, Dunham, near Swaffham.—- Bow- street, September 28. Further particulars respecting the Rusty Black Horse, advertised in tbe ' Police Gazette' of the 4th instant, as stolen or strayed from Kingston Common, on or ab. ut the 23rd ult. The said Horse is supposed to have been seen in the neigh- bourhood of Beaulieu, about the 12th instant.— 20s. Reward will be paid on the recovery of the Horse, if strayed ; and if stolen, x3 Reward wi! l be paid en conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Charles Smith, super- intendent, Hants ' constabulary, Ringwood.— Bow- stree., tSeptem- ber 27. Stolen or strayed, on the night of [ the 24th instant, or early the following morning, from a Meadow in the occupa- tion of Mr. Edmund Pummer, situate at Diss, Norfolk, a Bay Gelding Cob, 14 hands high, about 10 years old, with black mane and short Switch tail, one hind fetlock white, a white star on the forehead, and a wen on the near flank.— If stolen, whoever will give such information as shall lead to the appre- hension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and the restitution of the ' property, shall receive, from the Diss Asso- ciation for the Prosecution of Horse Stealers, the sum of £ 2, cn application to Mr. Muskett, solicitor, the Nunnery, Diss Treasurer to the said Association ; if strayed, any person bringing the same to Mr. Edmund Plummer, shall have all reasonable expenses paid. Information to be given to Wm. Lanham. police- officer, or Mr. Edmund Plummer, butcher, both of Diss, Norfolk.— Bow- street, Se tember 27. Stolen or strayed f( but supposed to have been sto'en), during the night of the 22nd instant, from a Field in the parish of L'aniiyrnog, a Dark Brown Cart Mare, aged, about 17 hands biah, and has a peculiar walk : the property of Mr. Robin, of Wern, Llandyrnog.— If stolen, £ 1 Reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Denson, Denbigh, North Wales.—-'- Bow- street, September 26. ' Strayed, in the parish of Briston, near Holt, on the 20th ins ant ( which is supposed to have been stolen and turned off), a Light- coloured Donkey, about 7 or 8 years old, in good con- dition, chafed on the tail and fetlccks, apparently by the shackles, has a light- coloured nose, and when found had no shoe on the off hind foot.— Information to be given to Police- constable William Fuller, Briston, Norfolk.— Bow- street, Sep ' ember 26. Found drowned, in a brook, on the 29th instant, at the parish of Wellesbourne, Warwickshire, a Man ( name un- known), who appears to be 55 or 60 years of age, light com- plexion, 5 feet 8 inches high, and dressed in an old black iress coat, black waistccat, blue trousers, blue worsted stock- ings and an old pair of lace- up boots. There are no marks or anything likely to lead to the identity of the body ; the o ily things found upon his person being a pair of german- silver mounted spectacles, a small silver pencil- case ( set with blue stone with the impression of a dog), and a brass watch- key. The body appears to have been in the water about a fortnight, and iB in a decomposed state.— Information to be given to the Constable, of Wellesbourne.— Bow- street, S'p'ember 30. A Man called at the House of Captain Robinson No. 6, Calvery- promenade, Tunbridge Wells, and stated he wished to tike a house in the Calvcry- park; he stated he came from Lord Delisle, of Penshurst, Kent. He asked to see the captain, md left a note, to Bay he would call again in the morning. He asked the servant for a glass of water, and while the servant was gone, he stole a silver Cream- jug, and a Scent- bottle. He then went to Mr. Lidbetter's, with the same story, and w hile the servant was gone, he stole a silver Taper stand. He was afterwards apprehended, at Tunbridge. He gave his name HENRY GREEN, of Gloucester square. Description of a Begging- letter Impostor, who was appre- hended by the Police at Almondsbury on the 24th instant, and remanded to Lawford's Gate : he gave his name WILLI AM WINTER, 38 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, has dark swarthy complexion, walks very uprightly, with quick step, has grey eyes, dark hair, inclining to grey, bald on the top of the head, squiline nose, and appears to have recently shaved off his whiskers ; dressed in a brown speckled taglioni coat black trousers, dark vest with blue sprig, black silk hat, white linen shirt, blue and white neckerchief, and heavily nailed cossack boots, with four holes in each side, nearly new.
