Wotiee.— It is requested that all communications, for the purpose of obtaining, or giving Information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may BEAR THE signature of the Person sending or requiring the same, and be addressed to MR. 8URNABY, the EDITOR, Police- court, Bow- strect, London, '.• Whenever it is desired that any individual, by name, shall be apprehended, it is indispsnsably necessary that an attested copy of an Information sworn before a Magistrate, should be transmitted to the Editor, together with the'Advertinemet for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. It is particularly desired that, in all Informations, the names of Persons and Places may be SPELT correctly, and WRITTEN plainly, to prevent mistakes. And that in application for the POLICE GAZETTE, the County, and the nearest Post. town, should the place not be one, may also he stated. And as no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, ALL letters addressed to the Editor, MUST BR pre- paid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. W. Stolen, on the 6th instant, from a Gentleman, while at tbe ' Horns' public- house, Kcnnington, a double- bottomed gold Geneva Watch, with silver face, flowers engraved on the outside case, and ' eschappe r. eaf, a, eylindre quatre trous en rubes' on the inner case.— Metropolitan Police, L Division, August 8. Stolen, on the 5th instant, from a Gentleman, while in Cremorne Gardens, a small engine- turned double- backed sil- ver Watch, enamelled dial, seconds- hand, and lever action, maker' Marsey, No. 6281,'— Metropolitan Police, V Division, Auqust 8. The five Bank Notes, advertised in the ' Police Gazette' of the 7th instant, as having been stolon from the Person of Thomas Rawlinson, are found, and will be restored to the ownerBowsireet, August 8. Stolen, from the Person of Thomas Rawlinson, wood turner, Barnacre Fords, while passing through Chadwick Orchard, Preston, on the night of the 3rd instant, five £ 5 Bank of England Notes. By four Men, one of whom was a tall young Man, and had on a billy- cock hat. No description can be given of the others.— Information to be given to Sjmuel Banister, high constable, Preston .- Bow- street, August 7. BOBBERY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen, on the 8th instant, from a Gentleman, while in the ' Turkish Slave' public- house, Bethnal- green, a double- cased silver Watch, maker's name ' Isaacs, Woolwich, No. 283,' with brass Chain attached.— Metropolitan Police, H Di- vision, August 12. Stolen, on the 8th instant, from a Gentleman, while in the neighbourhood of St. James's- park, two £ 5 Bank of Eng- land Notes, and £ 3 10s. in gold. By two Men: one about 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dressed in a brown coat, Und black satin vest; the other about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dressed in black, and of respectable appearance. — Metropolitan Police, F Division, Augnst 12. THOMAS KAY, alias JOHNSON, one of the Men who robbed Mr. Cosgrove, on the Highway between Newcastle and Shields, and advertised in the 1 Police Gazette ' of the 8th in- stant, has been apprehended by the North Shields Police. The Man whose description appears last in the advertisement re- ferred to, has not yet been apprehended. JOHNSON and the prisoner TOOLE, have been committed to take their trial at the Northumberland assizes.— Bow- street, Auqust 12. Stolen, during the night of the 8th instant, from the Person of John Huggans, of Sledmere, while asleep in a Shed Of Sir Tatton Sykes a silver Watch, maker's name ' Francis Dobson, Driffield, No. 1161. and on the dial' God speed the plough,' and a man holding a plough.— Information to be given to James Spedding, police- officer, Sledmere.— Bow- street August 12. Stolen, on the 3rd instant, from the Person of James Kiddle, a seaman, while in the Edgeware- road, an open- faoed double- cased silver horizontal Watch, maker's name ' Ollivera Quartier,' with silver Guard- chain attached,— Metropolitan Po- lice, D Division, August 9. Stolen, about half past 4 a. m. of the 6th instant, from the Person of Mr. James HUSK, of No. 26, Sandwich- street Burton- crescent, while in James- street, Covent Garden, an open- faced double- bottomed silver Watch, lever escapement, capped and jewelled in eight holes, maker's name ' Warren and Son, Canterbury, No. 726.'— Metropolitan Police, F Division, August 9. On the night of the 31st ultimo, three Men attacked at-, d robbed Mr. John Cosgrove, near Howden Colliery, on the high- way leading from Newcastle to North Shields, rifling his pockets and taking from him four Sovereigns. He was knooked down on the road, and oarried into an adjoining field, and left in a state of insensibility. One of the offend rs has been apprehended by the North Shields Police, and is at present under remand: he has been identified by Mr. Cos- grove. He gave the name of JOHN TOOLE, 21 years of age, 6 feet 9 inches high, a labourer, a native of Ireland, has fair hair, no whiskers ; dressed in a blue cloth jacket, fustian trou- sers and vest, and cloth oap. Description of the other two Men, not yet in custody: one 26 years of age, by trade a hatter, from Darlington, 5 feet II inches higb, slender, dork- brown hair, swarthy complexion, thin visage, no whiskers ; dressed in a black cloth surtout, black trousers, and cloth cap : the other about 35 years of age, a labourer, 5 feet 9 inches high, s'ender, swarthy complexion, broken nose, much flattened at the point; dressed in a brown velvet shooting coat, cord trou- uers, and black hat. One of the above men has been in Mor- peth gaol, for Felony. They are in the habit of frequenting low lodging- houses and are supposed to be well known in all the towns in the north of Englaud.— Information to be given to Robert Mitchell, superintendent of police, Town- hall, North Shields,— Bow- street, Auqwt 8. HOUSE- BREAKING. On the 4th instant, between the hours of 11 a. m. and 2 p. m., the Dwelling- house of Mr. Clements, cottager, situate at Bilford, in the county of Nottingham, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein, viz. : four Table- spoons, a tea ditto, a salt ditto, and a dessert ditto,— all silver, and marked ' J. C.'— Information to ' be given to Inspector Burrows, Ruddington, Notts.— Bow- street, August 12. On the night of the 7th instant, the Dwelling- house of Mr. Thomas Horley, of Ufton, near Southam, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz.: a small Bag, containing a pair of silver shoe Buckles, a pair of silver knee Buckles, a pair of silver- mounted Speotacles, in a red leather case ; a pair of black cloth top Boots, with maker's name inside, ' Borsley, Dunchurch ;' a brown top Coat; and about 35 or 36 new Sixpences, date 1845. The top Coat and a very old pair of leather Shoes, were found the following morn- ing by the side of the turnpike road, leading towards Banbury, about miles from Ufton. A Tramp is suspected, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, has dark complexion, and rather small black whiskers ; dressed in a black frock coat, dirty fustian trousers, and black" hat, and supposed to be wearing the cloth Boots. - Information to ba given to George Smallbone, inspector of police. Southam.— Bow- street, Auquit 12, On the; nifibt of f he 2nd instant, the House of Mr. John Wright, hair- dresser, Crown- street, Bolton, was broken and entered, and this . : n j. r; petty sklen the; ofrom, viz. : a black cloth suu ufc C- B x staining a quantity of Hair an. i a pair of dcissors : a portion of the Hair has since been recovered. By a Man of the following description : about 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, slender made, light brown hair, and sandy whiskers; dressed in a black cloth surtout coat, nearly new. which appears too small for him, shabby black silk waistcoat, much worn about the pockets, blue cloth trousers, very much worn, grey socks, blue checked shirt, low- quartered shoes, and shabby French hat, with the name' Wil- sons, hatters, Manchester,' inside : by trade a hairdresser, and addicted to drink.— A Reward of 10s. and all expenses^ will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to his apprehension and conviction, on application to Jas. Harris, superintendent of the borough police force, Bolton.— Bow- street, August 10. On the night of the 7th instant, or early the following morning, the Ilouse of Prees Prees, parish of Carew, county of Pembroke, was broken and entered, and the following pro- perty stolen therefrom: a silk Hat, nearly new; a pair of corduroy Smallclothes, a silk Neckcloth, two cotton ones, about two pounds of Tobacco, two bars of Soap, two Gowns, one merino, the other a striped cotton, with a flower running through it; six glass Tumblers, a large glass Bottle, a gold Ring, a pound of Starch, a pound of Blue, three Shawls, two Coats, four Waistcoats, two cotton Gowns, a white Petticoat, a pair of black Stockings, three Tea- spoons, £ 2 10s. in gold, and about £ 2 in silver. Part of the said property has been found, viz.: three Shawls, two Coats, four Waistcoats, a pair of black Stockings, three Tea- spoons, and part of the bar of Soap, together with a number of false Keys, a Chisel, a pair of Scissors, and two Centre- bits, found with part of the stolen property. Supposed by three Tramps, one about 35 years of age 5 teet 7 or 8 inches high, has sandy hair and whiskers, and squints with the left eye ; dressed in a velvet coat, and corduroy trousers.— Information to be given to S. P. Gedge, s uperintendent of police, Pembroke, South Wsles.— Bow- street, Auqust 10. Between the hours of ten in the morning and five in the afternoon, on the 7th instant, the House of the Rov. John Tho- mas Huntley, of Binbrooke, Lincolnshire, was entered, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz.: a double- cased sil- ver vertical Watch, maker's name ' Savage, London,' and en- graved on the inner case ' Sent up for good,' the property of the said J. T. Huntley ; four Sovereigns two Half- sovereigns, a new Shilling of the present reign, and four or five fourpenny Pieces, of which were, when stolen, in an old silk Purse ; the property of Mr. Huntley's housekeeper. By a Tramp, about 30 years of age 5 feet 7 inches high, thin face, light hair and whiskers, and supposed to be dressed either in a striped jacket or slop, fus- ian trousers, old shoes, and sealskin or yellow- coloured cap, and who had been begging round the village of Binbrooke, and who had altogether a dirty appearance,- Information to be given to George Forck. superintendent- constable, Market Rasen, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, August 10. Late on the night of the 4th instant, or early the follow- ing morning, Swerpore House, in the parish of Swerpore, iu the county of Oxford, the residence of Miss Harriet Whalley, was forcibly entered, and the undermentioned property stolen therefrom, viz,: a pair of gentlemen's large Shoe- buckles, silver ; a small round silver Box, with the initials ' M. W.' on the lid; a Work- box, containing five Sovereigns, two silver Thimbles, one of French manufacture, nearly new ; a small wooden Snufl- box; a silver Knife ; a silver Bodkin ; a pair of Scissars ; a large chased gilt Hook, with live chains append- ed ; a chased gilt Case, containing a gilt Knife,, an ivory Tooth- pick, and a space in the case for a pair of Scissar. s ; also, other articles — Information to be given to James Gummer Male, chief constable, Polics- station, Long Compton, Warwickshire. — Bow- street, August 9. On the night of the 2nd instant, the Dwelling- house of Mr. Wilkinson, grocer, of Silver- street, Bedford, was burgla- riously entered, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz.: £ 9 in silver, and 4s. in copper ; and a double- cased sil- ver Watch, with the word ' Brent' on the upper part, and ' Ford' on the under part of the dial, near the centre, in small capitals, making the word ' Brentford.'— Informatien to be given at the Rural Police office, Bedford, Beds,— Bow- street, Augusts. On the night of the 26th ultimo, some person or persons broke into the Town Bakehouse, in the parish of Farthinghoe, and stole therefrom the following articles, the property of Wm. Munday, labourer, viz.: a copper Boiler ; a Teakettle ; three calico Shifts, one marked ' E. M.;' two calico Shirts, man's size ; a cotton Gown, small lilac pattern ; and a cottoa Handkerchief, large plaid pattern, has been hemmed only at one corner, about four inches long. The Boiler and Teakettle were sold by a Man of the following description, on the 27th ultimo, to Mr. Clark, ironmonger, Brackley : about 18 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, slight made, and had on a light- coloured fustian coat, and white billy- cock hat, with several holes in it as if it had been shot through.— Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Northampton, or to J. Sy- mington, inspector of police, Brackley, Northamptonshire,— Bow- street, August 7. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. The two Mares, advertised in the ' Police Gazette ' of the 7th instant, as stolen or strayed from the Link Common, Mal- vern and Mathon, have been found and restored to their owners.— Brno- street, Auqust 12. Stolen, from the Farm of Polmoody, parish of Moffat, county of Dumfries, twelve Black- faced Ewes, the Lambs a Leicester cross, branded on the face ' I,' back bit on the off ear, the age- mark, a nick with a saw on horn. Three of them belong to the shepherd; a black half on the near ear; the Lambs tarred on the near cheek. They must have been rakea away in June: one of the shepherd s Lambs had a black back. — Whoever will give such information as will lead to detec- tion. will be rewarded by John Johnstone, Hunterheck, near Moffat, or by John Jones, superintendent of police, Dumfries. — Bow- street, August 12. The Horse advertised in the' Police Gazette' of the 29 th ultimo, as stolen or strayed from Pembroke Dock, in the county of Pembroke, has, in addition to the description given of it, spots on the shoulder like marks of shots. A Man, about 23 years of age, rather short, slight made, and pale, is suspected of stealing the same; he was respectably dressed in a dark riding coat, and corded trousers. It is supposed tbe said Horse has been taken by way of Gloucester or Bristol ( unlesssold on the road), or probably Aberystwifch or Swansea. A Horse of similar description was seen on the road to Nar- berth, early on the day it was stolen.— Information to be given to the owner, Mr. William Robertson, Pembroke Dock.— Bern- street, August 12. Stolen, from Earl Soham Fair, on the night of the 24th ultimo, a large Light- coloured Geiding Ass, has a dark spot on one side caused by the saddle, blistered on one of the fore legs, and the hair chafed off both fore fetlocks. Supposed by Some Persons, from Colchester or Norwich, who were at the Fair with dog- carts.— Information to be given to P. C. George Edwards, Police- station, Stradbrook, Suffolk. — Bow- street, August 12. Found at Bishopstoke, Hants, supposed to be stolen, a Black Horse Pony, 12 hands 3 inches high, long mane and tail, a small white streak down the nose, branded ' C. H.' on the saddle- mark, has a bone spavin on the off fore leg, one shoe off and has been hardly ridden.— Information to be given to S. R. Everett, superintendent, Hants Constabulary, Winchester.— Bow- street, August 10. The two aged Mares, found straying at Sherfield- upon- Loddon, in the county of Hants, on the 19th of June last, and advertised in the Police Gazette" of the 5 th of July, have been found and restored to their owa. vts-— Bow- street, August 10. Stolen or strayed, out of a Meadow at Walsall, the pro- perty of Mr. Evan Evans, horse- dealer, on the night of the 29th ultimo, a Light Grey half- bred Mare, 4 years old, switch tail, has three straight hair- marks on the offside of the neck, and has a small lump on the back under the saddle about the size of a small egg, with the hair rubbed off it.— If stolen, any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehen- sion and conviction of the offender or offenders, shall be hand- somely rewarded; if strayed, any pqsob rearing ft? grid 230 POLICE GAZETTE: Ait gust 12: Mare to William Price, County Police- station, Rushall, near Walsall, to whom information is to be given, shall have all reasonable expenses paid.— Bow- street, August 10. Found straying ( supposed to have been stolen), near Lichfield, on the 3ist ultimo, a Light Strawberry Grey Nag Mare, with, switch tail.— Any person paying the expenses can have bar, by applying to the Chief Superintendent of police, Lichfield, upon giving a satisfactory account of the same.— Bow • street, Angus', 9. Stolen, between 1 and 2 p. m. of the 6 th instant, from a IField at Maidstone, the property of Mr. William Chittenden. Store- street, Maidstone, a Grey Mare, between 13 and 14 hands high, ag'jd, has a sore on tbe back, switch tail, and broken- windp. a. By a Man, 21 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark eyes, dark curly hair and whiskers ; dressed in a black cut,- off coat, with pockets at the sides, dark green trou- sers, p'. ain vest, silk hat, and Wellington boots.— Metropolitan Police, J5, Division, August 9. Stolen or strayed, from a Field at Longnor, on the night t> f the 4th instant, or early the following morning, a Black Mare, about 14 hands high, 5 years old, with a long bushy tail. Also, a very handsome Black Mare Pony, about 10 hands high, and 5 years old.— If stolen, a Reward of Two Guineas will be paid to any person giving such information as will load to the conviction of the offender or offenders; if strayed, a handsome Reward and all reasonable expenses will be paid, on application co Charles Everall, of Longnor, near Church Stretton. Stolen or strayed, on the 30th ultimo, from a Field at Bickerstaffe, a Light Bay Horse, low in condition, stands 15 or 16 hands high, aged.— If stolen, a Reward of 10s. will be paid to any person or persons giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, on application at the Office of the Commissioner of Police, detective department, High- street, opposite the Town- hall, Liverpool; if strayed, any person having found the same, and will bring it to the Central Police- office, High street, opposite the Town- hall, shall receive the above Eeward, Bow- stree 1, August 6. JOHN GILLIES and GEORGE GILLIES, advertised io the ' Police Gazette' of the 3rd instant, as having absconded from Sheffield, on the 31st ultimo, stealing and taking a quan- tity of drapery Goods and Money, the property of their master, have been apprehended and committed to take their trials at the Sheffield Sessions.— Bow- street, Auqust 12. Absconded, on the 19th ultimo, EDWIN TURNER, watchmaker, residing in Dumfries in the county of Dumfries taking with him four or five silver Watches, belonging to parties from whom he obtained them to repair : one of them is a small silver verge Watch, maker's name and No. not yet ascertained, has attached a solid silver Guard, formed with links ; another is a patent lever silver" Watch, makers' names ' M'Kay and Chisholm, Edinburgh, No. 9757 ; no description of the others has yet been obtained. TURNER has often expressed a wish to go to America, and it is supposed that he gone to some port for the purpose of emigrating, but he will in all likelihood dispose of the Watches before doing so ward, on application to Mr. F.
