The Names of Persons charged with Offences, who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been Stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses, for the purpose of track , and recovering them. No. 1749. FRIDAY, MAY 31, 1850. '•• Whenever is desired that any individual, by name, shall be apprehended, it is indispensably necessary that an attested copy of an Information sworn before a Magistrate, should be transmitted to the Editor, together with the Advertisemet for insertion in tbe POLICE GAZETTE. It is particularly desired that, in all Information!, the names of Person* and Places may be SPELT correctly, and WRITTEN plainly, to prevent mistakes. And that in application for the POLICE GAZETTE, the County, and the nearest Post- town, should the place not be one, may also be stated. And as no charge is made for tbe insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, AIL letters addressed to the Editor, MUST Bit pre- paid, otherwise the insertion will not b « made. with a common Key, Ring, and two Seals, one a topaz, the other a small ruby attached.— Metropolitxn Police, D Division, May 28. W. li.— Directions have been given by the Secretary of State that the Printer of the POLICE GAZETTE shall be permitted to sell Copies, at ONE PENNY TER COPY, which will be forwarded FREE by Post, on the days of Publication, on payment of the price for THREE MONTHS in advance to the Printer, Mr. SAMUEL MILLS, Crane- court, Fleet- street, London; such payment to be continued so long as they shall be required to be sent. INFORMATIONS. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. On the night of the 10th instant, or early the following morning, some person or persons did break into the Parish Church at Ripple, in the county of Kent, and attempt to Bet fire to the same.—£ 40 Reward will be paid by the parish of Ripple, and a further Reward of ,£ 40 will be paid by the Government to any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders ; and the Secretary of State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice not being the person who actually attempted to set fire to the Church, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to the same result. Plummer, Esq., of Golyswack, near Milford, South Wales, while in High- street, Epsom, about 7 p. m. of the 29th instant, a gold Watch, maker's name and number at present unknown.— Metropoli- tan Police, V Division, May 31. Stolen, about half- past 3 p. m. of the 29th instant, from the Person of Mr. Whithurst, No. 18, Arlington- street, Regent's Park, while standing near the ' Windmill' public house, Clapham- common, a silver Snuff- box.— Metropolitan Police, V Division, May 31. Stolon,, from George Cooper, on the I8th instant, at High Wycombc, the following articles: a fine gold Brooch, set with twenty turquoises ; a ditto, Scotch pebble ; a gold mourning Ring ; a gold Ring, set with garnet; a set of three gold Studs ; five ladies' gold Rings, twelve gold Shirt- pins, and three silver Pencil- cases.—£ 2 Reward will be given by the said George Cooper, upon recovery of the property and conviotion of the offender or offenders.— Information to be given to the said George Cooper, High Wycombe, Bucks.— Bow- street, May 31, Stolen, on the 27th instant, from a Gentleman, while on Woolwich Common, an engine- turned silver hunting Watch ' No. 9204.' Also stolen, from another Gentleman, a silver lever Watch, engine- turned, maker's name ' Horatio Smith London .'— Metropolitan Police, R Division, May 29. Stolen, from the Person of William Garnham, on the 25th instant, between London and Ipswich, on board the ' Orwell steamer, a double- cased silver Watch, name on the plate ' John Garnham, No. 114.— Information to be given to W. C. Mason, superintendent of police, Town- hall, Ipswich,— Bow- street, May 29. Stolen, on the 24th instant, from a Gentleman, while at the Mechanics' Institution, Southampton- buildings, a single- cased engine- turned gold verge Watch, jewelled in seven holes, maker ' P. H. Borguin, Geneva, No. 594.'— Metropolitan Police, F Division, May 28. Stolen, on the 26th instant, from a Gentleman, while in Great Queen- street, a gold Watch, with embossed cases, white dial, seoonds- hand, maker ' Roskell, Liverpool, No. 51,119,' with a gold Guard attached. By a Female, about 30 years of age, fair complexion, and very much pook- marked ; dressed in a coloured gown, black shawl, with narrow border, and velvet bonnet.— Metropolitan Police, F Division, May 28. Stolen, from a Gentleman, while in the Polytechnic Institution, a metal gilt Watch, gold dial, roman figures, winds up in the front, number supposed to be' 130' or' 136/ HOUSE- BREAKING. On the night of the 22nd instant, the Workshop situated at Coldside, in the parish of Canonbie, and county of Dumfries, occupied by John Armstrong, shoemaker, was broken and en- tered, [ and [ the following property stolen therefrom, viz.: a pair of new water- tight Boots, with three rows of sparrow- bills on each side of the soles, the heel- plates arc nailed on with round- headed nails, and the plates on the toes with square- headed nails ; two pair of men's Shoes, new, with three rows of sparrowbills on eaoh side of the s") les, and plates on heels and toes ; a pair of mtn's Shoes, new, with plates on heels and toes; a pair of women's Shoes, strong calf leather, with plates behind, new; a pair of women's thin cordovan Slippers, new ; a pair of Shoes, newly soled, two rows of spar- rowbills round the soles, and plates on the heels.— Information to be given to John Jones* superintendent of police, Dumfries. — Bow- street, May 31. The House of Mr. Roberts, of Sharston, was burglariously broken and entered about 2 o'clock on the morning of the 28th instant, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz.: a Table- cloth, marked ' J. R.;' a pair of brass Candle- sticks, a Meat- saw, a small Grater, a large ditto, a Suet- chopper, a Cleaver, with wooden handle, a large Clothes- basket, a smi. ll ditto, a Roasting- jack, and a quantity of Bacon and Bread. — Information to be given to G. 0. Andrews, special high constable, Stockport, Cheshire.— Bow- May 30. On the night of the 27th instant, between the hours of 11 p. m. and 6 a. m., the Dwelling- house of Mr. Thomas Cox, of Cooksbridge, in tbe parish of Barcombe, Sussex, was broken and entered, by removing a cellar- window, and the following property stolen from the Shop anjoining thereto, viz.: four- teen half- quartern loaves of Bread, two pounds of Bacon, two round Dutch Cheeses, seven pounds of salt Butter, half a mock Derby Cheese ; a money- drawer, containing about 3s. in copper money, two Fourpenny- pieces, and some Farthings; four or five pounds of boiled Beef, and a bottle of home- made Wine.— Information to be given to Superintendent Harper, Chief Constable's- office, Lewes.— Bow- street, May 30. Between the hours of 12 at noon and half- past 8 in the evening on the 27th instant, a Cottage at the parish of Siston, in the county of Gloucester, in the occupation of Charles Truebody, labourer, was broken open, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz.: a silver pint Cup, marked ' W. M. P ; a pair of silver Sugar- tongs, marked ' S. W.;' two silver Table- spoons, not irarked,— all old fashioned ; f yard of black Cassi- mere ; two ounces of Tea, and a pound of Sugar.— Information to be given to Superintendent Martin, Stap'e Hill, near Bristol, or to Sergeant John Allen, Police- station, Pucklechurch, Glou- cestershire.— Bow- street, May 29. Stolen, between ^-- past 11 on the night of the 25th inst., and 6 o'clock the next morning, by means of house breaking, six silver Dinner- forks, six small silver Forks, eight silver Table- spoons, twelve silver Dessert- spoons, twelve silver Tea- spoons, two silver Salt- spoons, a silver Gravy- spoon, a perforated silver Sugar- spoon, a fluted ditto, a silver Mustard- spoon, a silver Sauce- ladle, and a pair of silver Sugar- tons.— all new, not marked; a pair of Sugar- tongs, marked ' C. P. B.;' a Sugar- spoon, marked ' H. Greene to C. J. Greene ;' a cut glass De- oanter, a plated Cake- basket, a plated Salver, a plated Spirit- stand, a set of plated Castors, a plated Fish- slice, and a pair of plated grape Soissors.— Whoever will give suoh information as Dhall lead to the the apprehension and conviotion of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property, shall re- ceive £ 5 Reward, on application at the Office of the Com- missioner of Police, detective department, High- street, oppo- site the Exchange, Liverpool.— Bovi- street, May 28. Between the hours of 9 a. m. and 10 p. m. on the 21st inst., the Cottage of George Griffin, situate at Coaley, was entered during the absence of the family, and the following articles stolen therefrom, viz.: a Half- sovereign, a pair of men's cos- sack Boots, with cork bottoms, and heavily nailed ; a man's strong working Shirt, narrow striped, and nearly new; two pair of white cotton Stockings ; a black silk half Neckerchief; three women's cotton ditto, with pieces of tape at the corner ; and a pair of child's white cotton Socks. — Information to be given to John Nicholes, superintendent of police, Dursley, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, Absconded from Walsall, since the 28th ultimo, charged with Houes breaking, GEORGE ADCOCK, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, sallow complexion, brown hair, full face, rather thick lips, fu'l eyes, proportionate [ make, no whiskers, and has rather a downcast- look ; dressed when he left, in a green shooting- jacket, narrow cord trousers, and black hat: by taade a shoemaker.— Information | to" be given to J. Burton, superintendent of police, Walsall.— Bow- street, May 28. On the 19th instant, about 3 o'clock p. m., the Dwelling- house of John Owen, of Penygraig, in the parish of Llanwrin. in the county of Montgomery, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz.: an Umbrella, a silk Handkerchief, 3s. in money, a quarter of a pound of Tobacco, and a small quantity of Bread and Bacon. The silk Handkerchief and Umbrella have been recovered. The said property was stolen and sold by JOHN HUMPHREYS, all JACK BULLOCK, labourer, a native of Llanfair, Montgo- meryshire, and sometimes works in mines; he is about 33 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, stout built, fresh complexion, sandy hair, large sandy whiskers, has a stooping gait, and turns his toes in a little when walking ; when last seen was dressed in a short smock- frock, under a velveteen shooting coat, with large pockets outside, brown cloth trou- sers, and white jem- crow hat.— Information to be given at the Chief Constable's- office, Newtown, or to P. C. F. Bowen, Machynlleth, Montgomeryshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 27. On the 11th instant, between the hours of two and eight in the afternoon, the House of Henry Philips, marble mason, of Pilton, was broken into and the following property stolen : eight silver Tea- spoons, six marked ' M. S.' on the front part of the handle, five of them [ nearly new, and the other worn a little on one side of the bowl, one of the other two was a small one, marked ' V. H.' on the back of the handle, and the other was an old one, with a good many small dents on the bowl; also, a pair of silver- plated Sugar- bows ; four India- silk pocket Handkerchiefs, one with a yellow ground, with coloured spots, all nearly new ; a very handsome woman's Scarf, of a green colour ; a thin- gilt single- cased Watch, part of the gilt rubbed off, and turned of a dark colour, the glass broken out, the hour- hand was made with a piece of copper wire; an old double- cased Watch, with one side of the joint that holds on the glass broken, maker's name ' J. Grant, London,' a card in- side, with the name ' Obourn, watch and clock maker, Cros- combe;' a large bunch of Keys, silver Thimbles, and other things. One of the offenders had a smock- frock on, and a round blue cloth cap ; had a piece of skin off hi3 left cheek, short and rough looking, ab jut 20 or 21 years of age ; the other was a respectable looking Man, about 30 years of age, of dark complexion, about 5 feet 6 inches high ; dressed in dark clothes and high- crowned hat.— Two Guineas Reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property; One Guinea on conviction of the offender only. Information to be given to John Selway, constable, of Pilton, near Shepton Mallet, in the county of Somerset, or to Henry Phelps, marble mason, of Pilton, the owner.— Bow- street, May 27. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Absconded from Crowfield, in Suffolk, on the 24th instant, charged with stealing a Male Ass from Playford, which was detained at Debenhain and advertised in the ' Police Gazette ' of the 24th instant, JAMES STUDD, a labourer, 45 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, light complexion, thin face, and little or no whiskers ; wore a light- coloured fustian frock ooat, light oord breeches, brown leather buskins, bl ick glazed cap, and boots laoed up in front. - Information to be given to Superintendent E. Fitzgerald, Woodbridge, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 31. Stolen, on the night of the 26th instant, from Oakham, Rutland, a Brown Pony, about 13| hands high, 5 years old, long tail, two white fetlocks behind, and has a small star in the forehead.— Information to be given to the Chief Con- stable, Oakham.— Bow- street, May 31. Stolen or strayed, from a Field adjoining the town of Chipping Sodbury, on the morning of the 23rd instant, a Black Horse Pony, aged, about 13 hands high, the near knee broken, white star on tfte forehead, grey over the eyes, white eaddle- marks on the back, the hair off the withers from a sor?, off hind heel white, and has a long switch tail.— Infor- mation to be given to Thomas T. Gordon, superintendent of police, Chipping Sodbury, who will pay all reasonable expenses on recovery of the same, if strayed.— Bow- street, May 30. pear to be mare and foal. Lest or stolen, on the 15th instant, from a Drove, near Lavenham. Suffolk, twenty- two Half- bred Down and Leicester Hoggets.— Information to be given to Samuel Burton, dealer, West Bergholt.— Bow- street, May 28. Stolen, from a Stable at Blackford, in the parish of Wed- more, in the county of Somerset, on the afternoon of the 27t, b instant, between 3 and 5 o'clock, a Bay Gelding, also a Saddle. The Horse has black legs, mane rather ragged and rough a short distanoe from the cars, a little circle of hair rubbed off the near side of the neck, long switch tail, about hands high, 9 years old, shoe- mark' H. Pim,' a slight mark of broken knees, and no white mark about him. The Saddle is by ' Dyer,' the knee- part stuffed, and a new crupper. They are the property of Arthur Phippen, Blackford, near Cross, Somerset, to whom information, is to be given.— Bow- street, May 29. Stolen or strayed, from a Field at Gold's green, in the parish of West Brorawich, on the night of the 25th instant, a She Mule, 6 years old, about 11 hands high, long tail, short bushy mane, and is of a dark- brown colour, with a white patch on the left side.— Information to be given at the Police- sta- tion, Tipton, or West Bromwich.— Bow- street, May 29. Stolen or strayed, on the night of the 25th instant, from a Field in the occupation of Mr. Solley, at Toll end, in the parish of Tipton, a Chesnut blood Filly, 3 years old, has a slit in the near ear, a wart on the throat, is 15 hands high, has a white blaze down the face, long bang tail, off hind foot white, and red mane, which lies on the wrong side.— If stolen, a Reward of £ 5 will be paid on the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders ; if strayed, all expenses will be paid, on application to Major M'Knight, Police stafion, West Bromwich, or to Sub- inspector Mills, Police- station, Tipton.— Bow- street, May 29. Stolen or strayed, from a Field in the psrish of Whitwell, in the county of Norfolk, on the night of the 19th instant, the property of Stephen Leeds, Esq., a Dark Brown Horse Pony aged, 12-| hands high, white star on the forehead, fired on the near hind fetlock, and long switch tail.— Information to be given to Superintendent Abbott, East Dereham, or at the Chief Constable's- office, Little Dunham, near Swaffham, Nor- folk.— Bow- street, May 29. Stolen or strayed ( but supposed to be stolen), on the even- ing of the 27th instant, within the extra- parochial limits of Nottingham Castle, adjoining the Nottingham Canal, in the possession of Mr. Thomas Palethorpe, ' Bowling Green Inn,' Nottingham, an Aged Chesnut Horse, about 16 hands high, used as a boat horse, has switch tail, both hind legs white, near hind leg swelled at the joint, the lip cut on the near side, rather roach- backed, and the top of his heck and shoulders covered with white hair.— Whoever will give such information as will lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, shall receive £ 5 Reward, on application to Mr. George Smedley, of Loughborough, Leicestershire; if strayed, all reasonable ex- penses will be paid on its restoration.— Bow- street, May 29. Stolen or strayed, from a Mountain in the parish of Llan- fair, Dyffyrn Clwyd, since the 10th instant, a Black Mare Pony, about 11 hands high, has a slit on one of the ears, aged, and in low csndition.— If strayed, all reasonable expenses will be paid on its restoration to the owner, Mr. Griffith, Bryn- Chware ; if stolen, a handsome Reward will be paid on the conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the Pony, Information to be given to the Chief Constable, County Police- office, Ruthin, Denbighshire.— Bow- street, May 29. Stolen, on the night of the 23rd instant, from a Lane in the parish of Elvington, in the East Riding of the county of York, a Light Grey Horse, the property of Mr. Joseph Beaumount. The said Horse is about 15 hands high, in good work- ing condition, lame on the off shoulder, has been blistered on both sides, but appears as if rubbed with the saddle- girth, has a switch tail, and is a short, lumpy horse ; cannot be rode with a saddle. A Man of the following description was seen driving the said horse in the direction of Malton or Pickering : about 5 feet 4 inches high, stout made, fresh- looking, about 35 years of age ; dressed in a long open smockfrock, svich as is worn by excavators, and had the appearance of a tramp.— In- formation to be given to George Heaton, police- officer, Eiving- ton.— Bow- street, May 29. Found straying, at Harlow, on the 23rd instant, and sup- posed to have been stolen, a Brown Cob Horse. 14 hands high, has a long mane, switch tail, broken- winded, about 7 years old, has a small white spot on each side of the dock, osused by the crupper, and the off hind heel white.— Information to be given to Superintendent Godwin, Epping, or to Inspector Low, Po- lice- station, Harlow, Essex.— Bow- street, May 2S. Stolen or strayed, from Kingswood, on the night of the 22nd instant, or early the next morning, a Bay Hack Mare, heavy in foal, 4 years old, about 14i hands high, black legs, the off knee rather larger than the other, a small star on the forehead, a long tail, full mane, a mark on the near shoulder from the collar, a number of grey hairs growing along the flank, and had lost two shoes, one from off the fore foot, the other from off one of the hind feet.—£ 5 Reward will be p iid to any person giving such information as will lead to the con- viction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the Mare ; if strayed, any person restoring the same to the owner Mr. Luke Thomas, shall be rewarded for their trouble, and have all reasonable expenses paid. Information to bo given at the Po- lice- station, Kington, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, May 28. Stolen or strayed, on the eVehing of the 20 h instant, or early the next morning, from Ramsley Common, near South 7, » a), in the parish of South Tawton, near Okehampton, Devon, p. Light Bay Mare, about 14 hands high, 4 years old, with a white star in the forehead, a white spot on the nose, grey spots on the near side, and has lost the hair under her fore- lock.— Any person giving such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the Horse, shall be handsomely rewarded, on application to Mr. Rowe, of South Tawton aforesaid, the owner, or to the Police- officer, at Okehamptoa.— Bew- street. Mdy 28. Stolen, on the 21st instant, from a Field at Compstall, in the county of Chester, a DarK Bay Filly, half- bred, 14£ hands high, 2 years old, both the hind feet and the near fore foot white, the figure of a heart burnt in the fore feet, long tail, a star on the forehead, and had light shoes.— Whoever will give such information to Joseph Little, special high constable, Hyde, as shall lead to the apprehension of the offender or offenders, and restoration of the Filly, shall have all reasonable expenses paid and rewarded for their trouble.— Bow- street, May 28.
