Notice to the Public. — It is re quested that all Communications far the purpose of obtain- t ing, or giving, information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may be addressed to MR. BURNABY, the EDITOR, Police Court, Bow- street, London. And as no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, ALL letters addressed to the Editor MUST BE PRE- PAID, otherwise the insertion will not he made. It is earnestly desired that persons sending Informations to the Editor WILL us PARTICULAR in SPELLING the names Of PERSONS anil PLACIS correctly ; and in WRITING them PLAINLY, to prevent mistakes , V. Between 9 and 10 o'clock, on the night of the 7th inst. a Man went to the Shop of Mr. Gilling, butcher,' 41, Maryle- bone- lane, and ordered a joint of Meat to be sent to 22, Queen Anne- street, for which he tendered a £ 5 Note, and received the change. He gave his name John Elmes. On the Meat being sent, the fraud was discovered, and the Note found to be a Forgery.— [ Metropolitan Police- office, No- vember 10. | THOMAS GIBBONS, late of No. 7, David- street, Baker- street, New- road, for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued, stands charged with Forgery, and has absconded. He is 38 or 39 years of age, 5 feet 6* or 5 feet 7 inches high, thick- set, hair black and slightly grizzled, eyes grey, with a projecting brow, face full, nose small and rather flattened at the tip, teeth regular but discoloured, complexion very sallow, thin black whiskers, voice mild and soft with a slow mode of speaking, walks rather stiff and stooping; his ordi- nary dress is a black close- bodied or brown Newmarket coat with gilt buttons, generally fancy waistcoats, drab or grey trousers, and long stocks. He was at Colchester and Ipswich, under the names of JAMES REDDING and ROBERT MILLS, in the last week.— If apprehended, par- ticulars to be sent to John L. Bicknell, Esq., Abingdon- slreet, Westminster.—{ Bow- street, November 6.] ROBBERY FROM THE PERSON. David Roberts, a Farmer, in the parish of Landbaddock, near Usk, attended his Club, at the ' While Lion,' in Usk. on the night of the 7th instant; two voung Men, JOHN LEWIS alias JACK the NAILER, and JOHN MORGAN commonly called JACK the OSTLER, were also at the Club. On Mr. Roberts going through a wood, some distance from Usk, he was knocked down by LEWIS and MORGAN, who stuffed his mouth with dirt, and stole from his person £ 4 10s. in money, two lbs. of Shot, and other articles ; together with the Rules of the Club. Both are about 5 feet 6 inches high ; LEWIS pale, meagre- looking, thin, wore a cap, and a blue coat: MORGAN rather stout, florid, and no whiskers, had on a cap, and a short smock. They left Usk on Sunday morning the 8th instant, and are supposed to have gone towards the Hills, or Abergavenny, at which place LEWIS has relations.— Information to be given to Mr. J. Shepard, solicitor and clerk to the magistrates, Usk, Monmouthshire. — Bow- street, November 9. J On the night of Saturday the ' J4th ultimo, between the hours of 10 and 11 o'clock, as Mr. John Wells, land survevor. of Letchlode, was returning home from Burford Market, he was stopped near Mr. Honey's plantations, in the parish of Shilton, in the county of Oxford, by three Men, armed with bludgeons, who dragged him off his horse, tied his legs, and robbed him of about 40s. in silver, and a silver Watch, ' No. 10446,' Roman figures on the dial, no maker's name, a blank left where the name usually is put, a private mark ( 575) on the inside of the top part of the outside case, near the joint, scratched with a fine point, quite discernible with the assistance of a glass, if not with the naked eye. The Men are about the ordinary size : two of them were dressed in white smock- frocks, the other, in a short blue cloth jacket over his waistcoat.— Whoever will give information so that the offenders may be brought to justice, and the Watch recover- ed, shall, on conviction, receive £ 2 Reward, on application to Thomas Watson, Rural Constabulary. Fairford, Glouces- tershire ; or to Mr. J. Wells, land- surveyor, Letchlode.— 1 Bow- street, November 5.1 HOCS& BHEAXIIRE. The Dwelling- house of Mrs. Carless, of Banning, was on Wednesday night the 4th instant, entered, and the following articles stolen therefrom : a silver Knife, mother- o'- pearl handle; a pair of sugar Tongs, marked * M. C.'; a tortoise- shell needle Case, with silver plate ; a Thimble; a pen Knife, with two pen blades, engraved on silver, Carless '; a pair of Scissors, with purple rivet; a silver Watch, maker ' Horton, Birmingham'; various Seals, one a swing Seal, crystal, with ' P.' red cornelian, with ' R. P.'— Whoever will give such information as may lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, shall receive £ 10 Reward.—[ Bow- street, November 7.] Between the hours of 1 and 4 o'clock, on the morning of the 7th instant, the Shop of Robert Booth, of Bollington, Cheshire, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therefrom, viz.: four Cheeses, each weighing about 35lbs.; 6ibs. of Tobacco ; 28lbs. of Sugar; two Loaves of Bread, each weighing 61bs.; a small pair of Scales, and two brass Weights, ( one an ounce and a half ditto); about 5s. in copper ; a white Wood- pigeon; and two Sacks, each marked ' John Pownell, M.'— Information to be given to William Harper, special high constable, Lynn Police- office, Cheshire. — [ Bow- street, November 9.] A Dwelling in the occupation of Mr. Samuel Roberts, in the township of Cropston, in the county of Leicester, was burglariously entered, in the night of the 6th instant, and the following articles stolen therefrom, viz. : three Shirts, and a Shift, unbleached calico ; a girl's Shift, new made of bleached calico, with a red stripe on the bottom on one side, and on both shoulders; part of a flitch of Bacon, weighing about thirty pounds; about two stone of Sugar, about half of it put up in pounds and half pounds, consisting of coarse, moist and tenpenny; about three pounds of 5s. Tea; about a pound a » d a half of Coffee ; about 5s. worth of Copper; a set of brass " Weights, from a pound to half an ounce ; to- gather with three, or four pounds of brown Soap.—£ 5 Re- ward will be paid to. anv oerxon or persons who will give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offend- ers.— Information to be given to Frederick Goodyer, chief constable, Leicester.—[ Bow- street, November 9.] , The House of Mr. Francis West, of Lord- street, Stock- port, was entered, between the hours of 6 and 8 o'clock, in the evening of Sunday the 1st instant, and the following property 3tolen therefrom, viz., thirty- six Sovereigns, a Half- sovereign, two 30s. and two 25s. Ulster Bank of Ireland Notes, five £ 1 Notes of the same Bank, about 12s. in silver, a silver Watch ( No. 2976), a 5s. piece, and four Letters, directed to the ' Sailors' Home, Temperance Coffee- house, Glasgow.'— Whoever will give such information to Joseph Sadler, superintendent of the Stockport Police, as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offend- ers, will be handsomely rewarded for their trouble.— bow- street, November 5.] HORSE And CATTlE STeAling. Found, by the Rural Police of Merton in the Marsh, in the county of Gloucester, a Light Brown Mare, 14 hands high, blind of near side eye, has a white mark on the fore- head, has a sore back caused by the saddle, a small ring of white round the off fetlock of fore foot, and round the hind off heel, and aged.— Application to be made to W. S. Evans, superintendent of police, Chipping Campden^ Gloucester- shire.—[ Bow- street, Nov. 10.] Stolen or strayed, from a Field near Chapel End, Ching- ford, between the night of the 6th, and morning of ilie 7th instant, eleven half- bred Leicester Sheep; six of them marked with a blue spot, and five of them marked with a red spot on the rump. Tiey belong to Jeremiah Humphries, of Ching- ford Hall, who will give £ 20 on recovery of the Sheep and conviction of the offender or offenders, if stolen ; if strayed, all expenses will be paid.—[ Metropolitan Police- office, No- vember 10.] Stolen, on Monday night the 2nd instant, from out of a Field belonging to Joseph Hawksley, of Owleston, near Sheffield, a very Dark Grey Mare Pony, about 12 hands high, light grey tail, light face and mane, has never been shod, rather hollow back, and about 3 years old ; the pro- perty of G. Hattersley, of Shales Moor, Sheffield, Also, a Chesnut Pony Mare, about 13 hand3 high, a white mark on each side the back where the saddie chafes it. rather sore on the back, caused by the saddle, and is very old; the property of Mrs. Ruddiforth, of Owleston, near Sheffield.—[ Bow- street, November 11.] Stolen, from Calstone, near Calne, Wilts, late on the night of the 9th instant, or early the following morning, a Bay Gelding, about 14± hands high, aged, short tail, two bony projections on the inside of one fore leg. Also, a Mare Pony, switch tail, about 12| hands high, marked ' F. F.' on the shoulder, and another mark oo the thigh of the same side, has collar- marks on each side, the recent effect of har- ness. The Horses were traced to the vicinity of Devizes.— Whoever will give information that will lead to the recovery of the said Horses and conviction of the offender or offend- ers, shall receive a Reward of £\ 0 10s., on application to Mr. Beasby, of the Wilts Rural Police Force, Calne.—[ Bow- street, November 11.] Stolen, some time during the night of Mondav the 2nd instant, from a Field, in the parish of West Houthly, a Chesnut Mare, about 15 hands high, 7 years old, blind in the left tjpe, a great deal of white about her hind legs and face, ant- 1 fail cut, but not very short; the property of Mr. William Gallard, of the above place.— Information to be. given to George Wright, No. 4, Police- station, Havward's Heath, near Cuckfield, Sussex.-[ Bow- street, November 11.] Stolen, on Wednesday night the 4th instant, or early the following morning, from a Field, at Trevace, in the parish of Tretite, in the county of Hereford, a fat Ewe Sheep ; the property of Mr. Thomas Wathen.— Whoever will give such information as may lead to the detection of the offender or offenders, shall, on conviction, receive £ 10 Reward, on ap- plication as above. — Information to be given to John Har- rison, superintendent of police. Station - house, Ross.— [ Bow- street, November 11.] Stolen or strayed, but supposed to be stolen, from out of a Bean " Stubble, in the occupation of Mr. Kelham, situate in the parish of Whapload, in the county of Lincoln, on Satur- day night the 31st ultimo, or early the following morning, a Dark Bay Colt, rising 3 years old, with black mane and legs ; also, an aged Chesnut Mare, with a small range down her face, and goes rather lame on her fore feet: the property of Mr. Evison Palmer, of Irby Hall, Whapload, afuresaid.— Whoever will give information of the offender or offenders, shall, upon conviction, receive a Reward of Ten Guineas, from ' he said Mr. Evison Palmer, and a further Reward of Ten Guineas from Mr. Samuel Brewster, Treasurer to the Sutter ton Association for the Prosecution of Felons ; if strayed, a Reward and all reasonable expenses will be paid, on the same being restored.—[ Bow- street, November 11.] Stuien, on Sunday night the 1st instant, from out of a Field in the parish of Hentland, a Wether Lamb ( the skin, head, and entrails, were left in the Field) ; the property of Mr. Joseph Scudamore, of rengethly.— Whoever will give information of the offender or offenders, shall, upon conviction, recede £ 10 Reward, on application to the said Joseph Scuddmore;.— Information to be given to the Super- intendent of Police, Station- house, ftoss, " Herefordshire.— [ Bow- street, November 11.1 Stolen, from out of a Field at Chester, late on Wednesday night the 4th instant, or early the following morning, a Dark Chesnut Horse Pony, aged, about 14 hands high, a white star on his face, and switch tail.— Whoever will give any information that will lead to the offender, shall be hand- somely rewarded, by applying to Hill, superintendent of the Chester Police.—| Bow- street, November 7.] On Thursday the oth instant, a Man, of the following description, hired a Horse and Gig of Mr. Vincy, the ' Plough,' Hertford, and not having returned, he is supposed to have stolen the same. He is about 30 years of age, 5 feet t> inches high, rather stout, full face, dark hair and whiskers, sallow complexion; dressed in a daik coat and dark striped trousers; he had a light Macintosh, lined with flannel, and velvet collar. The Mare is aged, 15 hands high, bay colour, star on the forehead, black legs, the near knee has been broken, the near hind leg has the hair grazed off four or five inches in length, she is well- b- ed, has a fine head, and switch tail. The Gig is square- bodied, round top, new wheels, painted chocolate colour, the lining drab, has been mended in the back, the Harness was brass- mounted. He is supposed to be in London.— In- formation to be given to Mr. Vincy, ' Plough Inn,' or to Thomas Knight, superintendent of police, Hertford, who will give £ 2 on recovery of the Horse and Gig.— [ Bow- street, November 7.] Stolen or strayed, on the night of Wednesday the 4th instant, or early the following morning, from out of a Field, called Sand- pit Ground, in the parish of Hillesden, Bucks, a Dark Brown aged Hackney Mare, above 15 hands high, black legs, has been docked, but had, when lost, a long tail; two deep dents on the near side between the ribs, and a white saddle- mark on the off side: the property of Mr. F. Lines. — If stolen, whoever shall give such information as may lead to the conviction of the offender, shall receive a Reward of £ 5 ; if strayed, any person bringing the said Mare to Mr. F. Lines, of Hillesden, will have all reasonable expenses paid, and be rewarded for their trouble.— [ Bow- street, November 7.] Found, early on the morning of the 3rd instant, in a Field, in Westonning, Beds, supposed to have been stolen, a Mare Pony, 13 hands high, aged, short switch tail, puffed in both fore legs, broken- winded, a small saddle- mark on the near side, legs completely black ; she seemed to have been hard ridden, and turned loose.— Information to be given to James Bates, superintendent of police, Ampthill, Beds.— [ Bow street, November 7.] Stolen or strayed, from a Field, near Swindon, on Wed- nesday the 4th instant, or early the following morning, a Bay Gelding, rising 6 years old, about 14± hands high, with a splint on each fore leg, a scar on one knee, and a bare spot, on the off heel behind.— If strayed, whoever will bring the same to Mr. Sadler Bristow, Swindon, shall be paid all reasonable expenses; and if stolen, a Reward of Two Guineas will be paid, on conviction of the offender or offenders.— [ Bow- street, November 7.] Hired, by a young Man, rather stout, sallow complexion, and dark hair, from Mr. Forster,' Chequer Inn,' Speenham 1014 { November 11. land. Berkshire, to go to Thatcham, three miles and back, a Dark Grey Horse, about 14 hands high, with the oflf hip- bcn; down, and a heavy brown Gig, with crooked shafts ana not returning, it is supposed he has stolen the same. — [ Bow- street, November 9.] Lost, supposed to be stolen, from an Orchard, situate at West Horrington, near Wells, in the county of Somerset, on the night of Thursday, the 5th instant, or early the following morning, a Dark Brown Mare, about 13 hands high, had formerly broken both knees, and has lost the off eye, and been fettered above the off fore foot.— Whoever will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, shall receive £ 3 Reward ; if strayed, all reasonable expenses will be paid, on application to Mr. James Sheppard . of West Horrington, near Wells aforesaid.—[ Bow- street, November 9.] Stolen or strayed, on the 28th October last, from out of a Field belonging to Mr. Daniel Bennett, of Brotheridge- green, near Upton- on- Severn, Worcestershire, a Light- brown Mare, with flaxen mane and tail, the tail short and switched, stands about 12 hands high, and has a scar, apparently from a kick, on the near hind leg. If strayed, any onti bringing the same to Mr. Daniel Bennett, will be rewarded for their trouble, and have all reasonable expenses paid.—[ Bow- street, November 9.] Detained at Leominster, supposed to have been slolen, fif- teen Sheep, twelve of them wethers marked ' MR' on the left side, and ' D ' on the right side, punched through the right ear, the tails fresh cut off, and much raddled on the back; a Ewe, marked on both sides with ' T N,' raddled on the crup, shoulder, and head ; and two Ewes, marked ' I W ' on both sides, raddled on the nesk and loins, with a cut on their right ears. They were found in possession of JOHN JENKINS, alias JOHN HART, who is remanded till Fri- day the 13th instant, at the Borough Gaol.— Any infor- mation respecting them or the Prisoner, is to be given to W. S. Smith, the keeper of the said Gaol.—[ Bow- street, November 9. J Stolen, from a Stable, at Potwell, in the parish of Widley, near Portsmouth, the property of Mr. William Lintott, on the night of Monday the 2nd instant, or early the following morning, a Dark Bay Welsh Cob Gelding,' rising 5 years old, with long mane and tail, but rather short in the dock ; off hind leg while a little above- the fetlock joint, a- little white near the hoof on one of the fore legs, white mark down the face, has two small galis on the near side of the head, is between 13 and 14 hands high, with hairy legs, • n't of good • tion.— Information to be given to George Devereux, inspector of police, Police- station, Landport, new Portsmouth or : William Lintott as above; and a of £ 5 will be given on conviction of the offender or offenders.— Bow- street, November 9.] * Found, in the possession of two Men, who are detained at Canterbury, a Bay Pony, about 14 hands high switch tail, a little white on the off legs near the hoof, a star on the forehead, a blaze down the face which has been coloured or stained to alter the appearance, and is about 6 year's old. Also a Bay Mare aged. hands high, a little white the near hind 1eg near the hoof, and both knees have been brok- en. Also a green spring Cart, picked out with black, covered top, red curtains, steps, and door behind, " John Hills, Portsea, Hampshire,' painted on the back, and a tin plate over that with ' John Hills, Hampstead, Middlesex,' on it; there was a crow Bar, a Saddle , a Bridle, and some Halters found in the Cart. One of the Men gives his name WILLIAM GOOD, is 31 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, long brown hair, and sandy whiskers; dressed in a brown petersham great coat, fustian trousers, blue check'd shirt, black waistcoat, a brown gaberdine under his great coat, breeches under his trousers, Wellington boots, and black hat. The other gives his name JOHN HALL, i6 31 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark brown hair, no whiskers, thin face, nose rather fiat, and slight make ; dressed in a blue jacket and waistcoat, dark drab trousers, and lace- up boots.— Information to be given to J. Clements, superin- tendent of police, Canterbury.—\ Bow- street, November 9.] Stolen or strayed, on Monday night the 2nd instant, or early the following morning, from a Field near St. Paul's Church, in the parish ol Cheltenham, a Grey or White Marc Pony, aged, about 13 hands high, stout grown, when lost had a long bob tail reaching nearly to her hocks, shod very short behind, has a small splint inside of one sore leg, slightly pinched by harness on the withers and the hair not yet grown, her off eye rather weak, and a fast trotter.— If strayed, any person bringing the above Pony to Mr. G. Evans, butcher, 141, High- street, Cheltenham, shall be handsomely rewarded for their trouble ; if stolen, a Reward of £ a will be paid for the recovery of the Pony and con- viction of the offender or offenders, by the said G. Evans.— Metropolitan Police- office, November 9.] Stolen, on Friday the 6th irist., from off the Road, in the parish of Uggeshall, in the county of Suffolk, a black Pony, aged, between 13 and 14 hands high, low in condition, large head, small neck, has knocked itself on the fore legs, and marked with ' O.' on the near hip ; the property of Mr. Charles Welton, of Mangford. A gipsy Boy was seen to ride off with the Puny.— Information to be given to Daniel Farage, superintendent_ pf police, Beccles Division, Halesworth, Suffolk.— [ Bow- street, November 9.] Hired, on Wednesday last the 4th instant, at Peterboro', a Dark Brown Mare, 14 hands 3 inches high, bliid of the near eye, star on the forehead, a small bit off the tip of her near ear, a scar on the off knee, a white heel behind, switch tail, rather low in condition, and 11 years old : by a Man calling himself SMITH,— lair complexion, stout made, the fore- finger of his left hand disfigured, and about 45 years old. The Saddle has a new piece of leather on the pommel, and one stirrup leather new pieced, and a single curb- bridle with a winker on the near side, — and not returning, it is supposed lie has stolen the same. — Whoever will give information ol the same, shall, on conviction of the offender, be rewarded for their trouble, and have all reasonable expenses paid, by applying to Thomas Dean, livery- stable- keeper, Peterboro'. — f isou- street, November 9.] Taken up at Leintwardine, near Ludlow, on the 6th inst., two Men, of suspicious appearance, having in their possession a very large Gelding Ass, nearly white, which they were en- deavouring to sell. One is about 5 feet 7 inches high, has a very bad impediment in his speech, and states his nam to be RICHARD PRICE, and is known to be a brother FREDERICK the GIPSY. The other is a youth, aboui 17 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, and seems to be deal and dumb, who also appears to be a gipsy.— Any information respecting them to be given to John Richardson, chief officer of police, Leintwardine, Herefordshire.—[ Boic- s'reet, No- vember 9.] Lost, on the 18th ultimo, supposed to have been stolen out of the Forest of Whichwood, an aged Black Mare, about 14 hands high, switch tail, white blaze down the forehead, and white sputs on the side of her head, one white heel behind, and a knot on the flank ; the property of Charles Dore, Ramsden.— Whoever will give such information to B. Simms, chief constable, Witney, as shall lead to the recovery of the said Mare, and, if stolen, the conviction of the offender, shall be handsomely rewarded, and have all expenses paid by the said Charles Dore.—[ Bow- street, November 9. J Stolen, on Sunday night the 1st instant, or early the fol lowing morning, from a Field belonging to Mr. George Taylor, of Great Ness, near Shrewsbury, in the county of Salop, a Light Chesnut half- bred Mare, rising 4 years old, aboat 14 hands high, flaxen mane, switch tail, coat inter- mixed with white hairs, black hair on the near hind quarter near to ihe tail, white mark from the forehead down to the nose, large head, heavy in the shoulders, and in high condi- tion.— Whoever will give information that will lead to the recovery of the said Mare and conviction of the offender or offenders, shall receive a Reward of £ 5, on ap lication to Mr. Samuel Farlow, police- officer, Shrewsbury. — [ BOTD- slretl, November 5.1 Stolen or strayed, from Monway Field, in the parish of Wednesbury, in the county of Stafford, late on Saturday night the 31st ultimo, or early the following morning, three Cows, the property of Thomas Robinson, of Lea Brook. A Heifer, 3 years old, white and yellow spots, and short horns, nearly dry; a Red short- horned Cow, 5 years old, white on the near hip and foreheat, nearly dry; and a White aged Cow, with about six wrinkles on her horns, which are short. Infor- mation to be given to John Phillips, superintendent of City Police, Worcester. — [ Bow- sireet, November 11.] Absconded, from Standgronnd, in the county of Hunting- don, charged with Felony, SAMUEL BELLAMY, by trade a shoemaker, about 40 years of age, pale- faced, thin made, stoops in his shoulders, about 5 feet 8 inches high, and has lost part of one of his thumbs ; bad on, when he left home, a dirty fustian coat, fustian trousers, a pair of old shoes, and a small bundle ; is of drunken habits, and when intoxicated talks knowingly of his share in several robberies ; was for- merly a brickmaker, and may perhaps be found at work at some brick- kilns. He is supposed to be either in the neighbourhood of Sleaford or the Fens of Hunts or Cam- bridgeshire.— Whoever will apprehend and lodge him in any of Her Majesty's Gaols, will be liberally remunerated, on application to Mr. Nelson Wilkinson, solicitor, Peter- borough.— [ Bow- sireet, November 11.] On Wednesday morning, the 4th instant, between the hours of 12 and 3 o'clock, GEORGE BEBBINGTON and WILLIAM CRAWFORD alias BUMPS CRAWFORD, shoemakers, natives of Nantwich, broke into the Slaughter- house of Mr. Jonathan Kitchen, butcher, situate in the Swine Market, in Nantwich, and stole therefrom five flitches of salted Bacon, four of which have been recovered. GEO. BEBBINGTON has been apprehended and committed for trial. WILLIAM CRAWFORD alias BUMPS CRAW- FORD has absconded, and is supposed to have gone to Man- chester, where he is well known to the trade.
