io PARLIAMENTARY Fictititious Votes, Reports, 1837- 8— continued. Bribery ( Longford). Evidence respecting the bribery supposed to have taken place at the last Longford election, Courtenay 7364- 7398 Neither of the candidates ( Conser- vative) at Longford were aware of the money being advanced to voters, Courtenay 7387, 7388 Witness had two or three good cases of bribery against the sitting members for Longford if the Conservatives had thought it worth while to go on with their petition, Courtenay 7391- 7398- See also Advances to Voters. Freemen. Roman Catholic Clergy. Bridewell Lane, Cork. It is a very bad neighbourhood, and in bad repute; it is one of the worst parts of Cork; the most notorious of the houses of ill- fame are in that part, Meagher 3692- 3698. Brim, Henry. Shoemaker, Francis- street, Cork ; registered as a ten pound householder in 1832, having been returned in the summer preceding, and ever since the registration as " poor," and consequently never rated, Lane 1124- 1128. Broadbridge, Richard. Coachmaker, South Mall; registered in November 1832; no trace of him to be found either in the valuations or in the collector's books, Lane 711- 718. Brock, Mr. Was the first Protestant placed on Lord Lorton's estate, Ballinamuck; he was placed there with a view to show them a different system of agriculture, Courtenay 7270. 13502, 13503. 13507, 13508 He was murdered on his own farm at the expira- tion of a month after he entered upon it; two persons were tried for the murder, but acquitted, Courtenay 7270. 7279- 7283. 13507, 13508. Brock, Mr, Evidence given by him before the Committee on the Longford petition in 1837, as to there being no buildings on the property occupied by M'Gurk, is very incorrect, part of them having been erected in 1833, Flood 8682- 8695. Broderick, Timothy. Salter, Blarney- lane, Cork ; registered in 1832 ; was valued at 61. in the supplementary valuation; he did not appeal, Lane 918. Brown, James. Shoemaker, Great Britain- street, Cork; registered in October 1832; his name is not in any of the valuations, Lane 698, 699 Occupies a very small thatched house; the extreme value is 5 I., Young 1984- 1986, Meagher 3363, 3364 Never worth 101., Young, 1989 Registered in 1832; voted in 1832, 1835 and 1837, Colburn 1987, 1988 Rated in the supplementary valuation at 5 I., and struck out, Lane 1990. Brown, John. Shoemaker, Fishamble- lane ; registered for Cork in 1832 ; is valued at 81., Lane 918. Bryan, Edward. Carpenter, Nicholas- street, Cork; registered in 1832 ; he was valued at 61. in 1828, Lane 920. Bryan, Henry. Shoemaker, Francis- street, Cork ; registered in November 1832 ; he was valued at 61., Lane 920. Bryan, Thomas. Of Lemonaghan ; claimed to register for King's County in October 1836 ; he was rejected 011 the ground of not being a sufficient time in possession, Daly. 15148. 15151- " Bucking," ( Cork). The Liberal party in Cork never had occasion to resort to the system of " bucking," Meagher 2832- 2835 Explanation of the term " bucks," persons voting- out of houses that they do not reside in at the time of voting, Meagher 2836 - Baron Pennefather's " bucks" are the non- resident freemen, Meagher 2837. Buckley, Denis. Of Wellington Road, Cork; inhabits a very poor small thatched cabin, about 5Z. value; fields adjoining his house he did not rent, Young 2147- 2151. 2153- 2162. Registered out of house and land in 1835; voted 1837, Colburn 2152 Is not upon the valuation, Lane 2163. Buckley, Eugene. Schoolmaster, New Gaol Road, Cork ; registered out of a house in November 1832; neither his name or house appears in the valuation books, Lane 728, 729. Buckley, John. Yeoman, Bishop- street, Cork; registered in 1832; appealed against the supplementary valuation, and was struck off, Lane 70l*~ 704 The premises occupied by him are good value for 101., Gould 4152 He lets part to lodgers, Gould 4154- 4165. Buckley, John. Cooper; registered out of house and warehouse in Great Britain- street, Cork, in October 1832 ; he was valued at 81, Lane 918 Premises occupied by him were of sufficient value to entitle him to register as a 10 I. householder, Barry 5603- 5613.
