Number of Parliamentary electors registered for 1836 and 1837 - - - 975 Number of electors who actually polled at the late general election - 777 The only qualification of the Parliamentary electors for this borough is the 10/. franchise given by the Reform Act, 2 Will. 4, c. 45. Number of Electors Registered. 1836: Freemen Rate- payers - Total Of the rate- payers 167 are also freemen. 1837: Freemen - Rate- payers - Total Of the rate- payers 171 are also freemen. Number of electors registered in 1836, 260 ; all 10/. householders. Number of electors registered in 1837, 250 10/. householders, and 7 freemen ; total, 257. Total number of electors on the register for the year 1836- 37 Number of freemen ----- Number of 10/. householders - Number of electors who polled at the general election in 1837 - 749 Those who voted as freemen - 625 Those who voted as occupiers - - - - 124 It may be observed that many of those who voted as freemen were qualified to vote as occupiers 20 April 1838.
