100 ELECTORS REGISTERED, AND VOTERS POLLED, Number of Electors who Polled at the last Election ( July 25, 1837). Freemen, called burgesses ~ Persons who voted in respect of property occupied within the parish of Christ- church - - - - - - - - " ~ ~ Persons who voted in respect of property occupied within the parish or chapelry of Holdenhurst ----------- 17 December 1837. Arthur Lambley, Mayor. CIRENCESTER. THE number of electors in respect of property occupied, by virtue of the Act of 2 Will. 4, that were registered in this borough for the year 1836, was 102; and for the year 1837, 119 ; and of electors in respect of any rights, other than those conferred by the same Act, that were registered in this borough for the year 1836, 483 ; and for the year 1837, 467; making a total of the number of electors that were registered for the year 1836, 585; and for the year 1837, 586. There was no contest for the representation of this borough at the late general election, and consequently no electors polled on that occasion. Geo. In 1836 the total number of electors on the register of voters was Out of the above number there are eight persons who claim to vote as burgesses in right of being owners in fee of certain ancient burgage tenements within the borough, who are called burgesses, and in whom the sole right of voting for Members of Parliament was vested prior to the passing of the Reform Bill N. B.— The above burgesses ( except only one) have a double qualifica- tion, their names being entered twice on the register of voters as the occupiers of houses, & c., of the annual value of 10 /. and upwards. The remainder of the electors on the register are those persons who have acquired the right of voting under the Reform Bill, as occupiers of houses of the annual value of 10/. and upwards ------- In 1837 the total number of electors on the register of voters was Out of which number there are five persons who claim to vote as burgesses in right of beins; O owners in fee of certain ancient burgage tenements within the borough, who are called burgesses, and in whom the sole right of voting for Members of Parliament was vested prior to the passing of the Reform Bill ------------- N.
