Containing the Substance of all Informations received in Cases of Felonies, and Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the placet and every particular circumstance marking the Offence. The Names of Persons charged, who are known but not in Custody, and of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and every other mark of identity that can be described. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every other particular which may lead to their Apprehension. The Names of all Persons brought before the Magistrate*, charged with any of the Offences mentioned, and whether committed for Trial, Re- examination, or how otherwise disposed of. Also a Description of Property that has been Stolen, and particularly of Stolen Horses, with as much particularity as can be given, with every circumstance that may be useful for the purpose of Tracing and Recovering it. As no charge is made for the insertion of Articles relating to Stolen Property in the Police Gazette and Hue and Cry, utl Let- ters addressed to tlw Editor upon that subject, are requested to be post- paid, otherwise the insertion requested will not take place. MURDER, AND MALICIOUSLY SHOOTING OR STABBING Whitehall, March 18th, 1834. Whereas it hath been humbly represented unto the King, That, on the evening of the 10th day of March instant, Mr. Francis James Rens, of Stow- on- the- Wold, in the county of Gloucester, was barbarously Murdered, by some evil- disposed person or persons unknown ; His Majesty, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the persons concerned in the Murder before mentioned, is hereby pleased to promise His most gracious Pardon to any one of them ( except the actual perpetrator thereof) who shall discover his Accomplice or Accomplices therein, so that he she or they may be apprehended and convicted thereof: And, as a further encouragement, a Reward of Two Hundred Pounds is hereby offered to anv person ( except as aforesaid) who shall discover the said offender or offenders, so that he she or they may be apprehended and convicted of the said offence. —£ 100 of such reward to be paid by the Right Honourable the Lords Commissioners of His Majesty's Treasury; and £ 100 by Mr. John D. Charles, of Stow- on- the- Wold. MELBOURNE. Absconded, PETER HIGGINS, late of Wigan, in the county of Lancaster, who stands charged, upon the Coroner's Inquest, with killing and slaying Richard Rylance, at Wigan, on Friday, the 14th ultimo.— He travels the country with a basket, is a native of Ireland, five feet eight or nine inches high, much marked with the sinall- pox, high cheek- bones, stout made, about thirty years of age, dark brown hair, and is a suspicious looking character ; he had on a blue cloth coat and white fur cap.— Information to be given to Mr. Thomas Green- shaw, Town Clerk, Wigan: Whitehall, February 28th, 1834. Whereas it hath been humbly represented unto the King. That, about half- past six o'clock in the evening of Wednesday, the 26th day of February instant, Mr. John Richardson, Bailiff to J. Perkins, Esq., of' Pendhill, near Bletchingley, in the county of Surrey, was inhumanly Murdered, between Epsom and Banstead, on his return from Epsom Market, and robbed of Cash and Bank of England Notes to the amount of about £ 20 or £ 30; His Majesty, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the persons concerned in the Murder before mentioned, is hereby pleased to promise His most gracious Pardon to any one of them ( except the person who actually committed the same) who shall discover his Accomplice or Accomplices therein, so that he she or they may be apprehended and con- victed thereof: / And, as a further encouragement, a Reward of One Hundred Pounds is hereby offered by the Right Honourable the Lords Commissioners of His Majesty's Treasury, and an additional Reward of One Hundred Pounds hv the said John Perkins, Esq., to any person ( except as aforesaid) who shall discover the said offender or offenders, so that he she or they may be appre- hended and convicted of the said offence. MELBOURNE. FORGERY. Absconded, on Monday, the 10th ultimo, from the service of W. D. Scott. No. 28, Hanover- street, Edinburgh, GEORGE WILSON, who is charged with Forgery and also with embez- zling various sums of Money received on his employer's account. — lie is about twenty- three years of age, five feet six inches high, brown hair, slender made, fair complexion, thin face, dark eyes, no whiskers, sharp nose, ordinary mouth, bushy eyebrows meeting above the eyes, delicate looking, rather vulgar in ap- pearance, and speaks in a south country accent: he resided at No. 22, Middle Arthur- place.— Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Edinburgh. MORRIS ROSENBERG stands charged with having com- mitted Forgery, in Dublin, on Monday, the 10th ultimo ; and received, by a'Post- bill, £ 519. 17s. lod., dated February 20th, which he got exchanged at the Branch Bank of England in Li- verpool, for the following Notes, which are stopped in London, viz.— Two for £ 100 each, dated 9th Nov. 1833, Nos. 16391 and 16392; six for £ 50 each, dated 6th May 1833, Nos. 2516 to 2521; and £ 19. 17s. 10( 1. in Cash.— The said MORRIS RO- SENBERG is from Breslau, on the Prussian Frontier; about forty- three years of age, sandy whiskers, light hair, ruddy com- plexion, about five feet eight inches high, stout made, and steady looking; wore a dark brown or olive frock coat, and 1* 1( 1 with him a green carpet bag, and an old- fashioned silver watch ; he understands the watch trade, speaks English very imperfectly, and was last heard of in Liverpool on the 11th inst. — Information to be given to Mr. Theobalds, City Marshal, at the Police Office, Guildhall, London. ROBBERY TROM THE PERSON. On Monday night, the 31st ultimo, as Mr Jabez Soans, of Wendover, was returning home from Trine Fair, he was attacked by four Men, near Weston Turville, who pulled him off his horse and threw him into a ditch, and otherwise ill- treated him, and rode away with his Horse. The Horse is a black colour, about fourteen hands high, rising five years old, and cuts before.— Information to be given to Wm. Cross, High Constable, Aylesbury. HOUSE- BREAKING. On Monday evening, the 31st ultimo, between six and eight o'clock, the House of Mr. Thomas Sherwin, No. 62, Old Nichol- street, Bethnal- green, was entered by means of skeleton keys, and a small box, containing £ 33 in gold and silver, was stolen therefrom. Between the hours of eleven o'clock on Wednesday night the 2nd instant and seven o'clock the next morning, the House of Mr. J. Gawan, No- 2, Upper Craven- place, Kentish- town, was entered at the back kitchen window, which was left un- fastened, and the following articles were stolen therefrom, viz. — - A new dark olive Great Coat, an olive brown ditto, a pair of Wellington Boots nearly new, two silver Table- spoons ; a silver Table- spoon, very old, crest a Stag's head ; two ditto Salt- spoons, a ditto Tea- ladle; a pair of Sugar- tongs, plated on steel; eight silver Tea- spoons, some of them old- fashioned, marked ' J. E. G.'; and a black Hat.— A small jemmy was left behind. On Sunday, the 30th ultimo, the House of Mr. King, Brick- layer, No. 25, Friendly- street, New- town, Deptford, was en- tered by means of skeleton keys, during the absence of the family, and the following articles were stolen therefrom, viz.— A large green silk Dress, six silver Tea- spools marked ' R.', a pair of silver Sugar- tongs, a silver Cream- jug, six silver handled Knives and Forks, a flowered print Dress, a claret colour cloth Pelisse, a blue Coat with metal buttons, an olive colour Great Coat, a pair of brown cloth Trousers, a pair of gold Ear- rings old- fashioned, a coral Necklace, two gold Snaps, a silver shoe Buckle, a small copper Coin, a silver 1 ea- spoon marked ' W. B.', and one Sovereign. On Wednesday night, the 2nd instant, the Warehouse and Premises of Mr. Mollady, of Daventry, in the county of Northampton, Hatter, were broken and entered, and a large Quantity of Valuable Furs, called Beaver, Musquash, and Hares' Fur, stolen therefrom.— A Reward of Five Guineas will be paid by Mr. Roche, the Treasurer to the Daventry Associa- tion, and a further Reward of Twenty Guineas by Mr. Mollady, to any person who will apprehend or give such information as shall convict the offender or offenders. On Saftirdav night, the 15th ultimo, the Dwelling- house of Miss Bates, at Wood thy, near Newbury, was broken and en- tered, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz.— A brown and blue- nctt silk Purse, quite new, with gold runners and tassels, containing money; a small dark blue leather Purse, within the former, marked ' Gold' in gilt letters; a French bead Purse, worked in flowers, no snap, with money; a brown leather Purse, with money ; a silver lever Watch, capped and jewelled in four holes, engine- turned, plain white face, gold hands, and maker's name ' Frodsham, 33, Gracechurch- street, No. 1130 '; a silver lever Watch, capped and jewelled in four holes, engine- turned, face plain and slightly tinted, gold hands, makers' names ' C'arr and Watkins, No. 1094'; a French mu- sical Snuff- box, tortoise- shell, stamped on the top with a Man and Horse— played two tunes; a gold Seal, impression heart's- case ; a drab leather Purse, with runners, containing money; a small Bag, made of white kid leather, ditto; a gold and silver twist Purse, containing various medals and coins of gold and silver, also an Isle of Man Halfpenny ; a quantity of Crowns and Half- crowns, of the old coinage, about 30s. worth ; a small plaid stuff Bag, containing pence; a small oval silver Box, a gold Thimble and Sheath ; a new Half- crown, a Shilling, and a Sixpence; a common fiddle- handled silver Dessert- spoon, marked ' M. C.'; a striped nett green Purse, with money; one pair of Spectacles, marked in the case ' Bradbury, hollis- street, Cavendish- square,' steel- mounted; and a Pen- holder in a sil- ver case.— Information to be given at Bow- street Office. Between the hours of twelve o'clock on Wednesday night the 2nd instant and four o'clock the next morning, the House of Mr. Hancock, Avenue Cottage, Avenue Road; Regent's Park, was entered at the back door, by means of a centre- bit, and the following articles were Stolen therefrom, viz.— A gilt Snuff- box, two agate Stones mounted : three fiddle- handled Tea- spoons, marked ' S.' on the back; three old- fashioned Tea- spoons, a pair of chased Sugar- tongs, and two silver Salts, all marked ' M. S.'; two olive Great Coats, with pockets inside, and two small bits newly sewed on the back of one of the collars. On Tuesday morning, the 25th of February last, the Shop of Mr. Nathan Franks, Watchmaker and Jeweller, situated near the Cross, in the Town of Kinross, was broken and entered, and thirty- five Silver Watches, a Gold Watch, a great quantity of Jewellery, consisting of Gold Ear- rings, Bracelets, Clasps, Watch Keys, and also a quantity of Silver Spoons, and various other articles, and Watchmaker's Working Tools, Stolen there- from ; the Shop afterwards was wilfully Set on Fire, and partially consumed.— The numbers and description of several of the Watchesare as follows, viz.:— a single- cased Gold Watch, wound on the face, chapters, oval pendent, jewelled, with the banking pin below, balancc acting on the slide; a close- cased Hunting Watch, maker's name ' Eaton, London,' No. 9056 ; a horizontal Watch, engraved round out case hazel, ' John Mailler, Mer- chant, Edinr,' in pinchback cases, makers' names' Turnbull and Aitchison, Edinr.,' No. 327; a Silver Watch, marked on the dial, instead of chapters or letters for hours, ' J. O. H. N. J. P. E. A. R. S. O. N.,' marked also in small letters, on front of dial, ' Road Surveyor'; a double- cased Silver Watch, no name, No. 3927; a double- cased Silver Watch, maker's name ' J. Malton, London,' No. 5560; a Silver Watch, maker's name ' Curtis, London,' No. 480; a Silver Watch, maker's name • Scotland Coutts, London,' No. 1883.— Any person giving such informa- tion as will lead to the recovery o! the property and the discovery of the offender or offenders, shall receive a Reward of Twenty Pounds, on application to William Thompson, Procurator Fiscal of Kinross- shire. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen, on Sunday night, the 23d ultimo, or early the follow- ing morning, from the Stable of Mr. John Young, of Bram- shaw, Hants, a strong Bay Horse, fourteen hands and a half high, of the Cart kind, in good condition, star in the forehead, black mane, a long tail, saddle- marked wnh grev spots on the ribs, and a little white round the fetlock of the near hind leg. Also, a set of common Cart Harness: and a light Cart, painted green, the wheels have been lately repaired with old iron, and the fellies are painted red.— Whoever will give information that may lead to conviction of the offender or offenders shall receive Five Pounds Reward, and a further Reward of Five Pounds on recovery of the property, by applying to Mr. W. Pearce, con- stable, Romsey, Hants. 2498 POLICE GAZETTE; Oi l , H U E A N D CRY. 2495 Lost, supposed to be Stolen, on Tuesday night, the 1st iust., about eleven o'clock, from opposite the ' Eight Bells' Public- house, Church- street, Greenwich, a Horse and Chaise Cart.— The Horse is about thirteen hands high, dark grey, with switch tail; the Cart is nearly new, and painted dark brown.— In- formation to be given at No. 26, Colchester- street, White- chapel ; or at the Police- station, Greenwich- road. LARCENY. On the 25th ultimo THOMAS MOSS Absconded from his Lodging, at No. 10, Peter- street, Bishopsgate, stealing and taking with him the following articles, viz.— A frock Coat, a dress ditto, two pair of Trousers, two Waistcoats, two Necker- chiefs, two pair of Stockings, a silver patent Pencil- case, a silver Watch jewelled and enamelled, a musical Snuff- box, a patent Watch guard gold- mounted, and several other articles: the pro- perty of Mr. Thomas Martin.— He is about twenty- one years of age, five feet five inches high, light hair, brown eyes, and is scarred in the face.— Whoever will apprehend the said offender, and give information thereof to Mr. Martin, aforesaid, shall re- ceive One Pound Reward. On Wednesday, the 26th ultimo, THOMAS EVANS Ab- sconded from the neighbourhood of Newcastle Emlyn, in the county of Carmarthen, charged with having administered arsenic to Hannah James, single woman, who was with child.— He is a mason by trade, about five feet six inches high, from twenty- six to thirty years of age, very stout, dark hair, large whiskers, straight nose, common face, and little speckled dark eyes ; generally wore a fustian jacket and blue trousers : he is supposed to be on his passage to America. Absconded, on Thursday morning, the 3rd instant, from Chester Mews, Regent's Park, RICHARD HODGES, a helper in the stables, taking with him a Five- pound Note of the Lin- | coin Bank, payable at Messrs. Barclay, Bevan, and Co.' s, Lon- don, the property of James Payne, with which he was entrusted to get changed; and which it has since been ascertained was ; cashed the same day, by Messrs. Barclay and Co.— He is a J native of Birmingham, to which place it is supposed he has gone ; about thirty- five years of age, five feet six inches high, of dark complexion, and was dressed in a black waistcoat, dark kerseymere small- clothes, and leather gaiters, and is supposed I I to have worn, when he left London, a new black velveteen shooting jacket.— Information to be given to James Payne, ' No. 19, Chester Mews, Regent's Park. MISCZ: I. I. AXIREOUS INFORMATIONS Escaped, from the County Gaol at Bedford, on Sunday morn- ing, the 30th ultimo, JOHN EMMERTON, twenty- four years of age, five feet nine inches high, brown hair, grey eyes, pale complexion, and a native of Leighton- Buzzard, " Bedfordshire; had on, when he escaped, an old waistcoat with sleeves, old cor- duroy trousers, old shoes cut in slits to give ease to his toes, and an old black hat; he has been severely flogged and drummed out from the Woolwich Division of Marines, for thieving and other improper conduct. He was convicted of felony, at the Lent Assizes 1833, and sentenced to imprisonment and hard labour for one year, from which he was discharged on the 2nd instant, and committed again on the 10th, charged with sacri- lege and house- breaking, from which charges he has now es- caped.— Whoever will apprehend or cause to be apprehended the said JOHN EMMERTON, and lodge him in any of His Majesty's Gaols, shall receive Ten Pounds Reward, on applica- tion to Thomas Warner, Keeper of the County Gaol, Bedford. Woolwich Kent tailor 23 5 1\ — — — —• POLICE GAZETTE; Oi l , H U E A N D CRY. 2495 at Woolwich.— He is a native of Langham, in Pembrokeshire ; is twenty- seven years of age, five feet seven inches anil a quarter high, of swarthy complexion, heavy down- looking countenance, high cheek- bones, dark brown hair which rather curls on the sides, dark sandy whiskers, has an inflammation in his eyes, which arc small and dark and appear sore, and a full visage ; a Mermaid inside of right arm and an Anchor inside of left arm— each marked below the elbow- joint: was convicted at Cardiff, in February last, and sentenced to transportation for life, lie broke his irons by which he was fastened to another prisoner, but had a basil remaining on his leg with two square rivets ; bad on a black hat and black cravat, light- colour striped waistcoat, light fustian jacket, dark trousers, and low shoes. He was immediately pursued by one of the keepers, but escaped from the very dense log at the time.— Five Pounds Reward will be paid on his apprehension. Information to be given to Mr. J. 15. Stolen, from an uninhabited House, No. 1, Canal- road, Islington, two pair of Sashes, containing twenty- four squares of glass, the property of Mr. Newton, Bury Street, Saint Mary Axe.— The entrance was effected by means of skeleton keys, supposed by two Men who were seen lurking about the house about eight o'clock on Tuesday evening, the 1st instant. Stolen, on Friday, the 4th instant, from the Coburg Hotel, Charles- street, Grosvenor- square, three silver Table- spoons, fiddle- headed pattern, and ' Coburg Hotel' engraved on the back. Stolen, on Thursday afternoon, the 3rd instant, about four o'clock, from the Bar of the ' Spread Eagle' Public- house, Mason Street, Westminster Bridge Road, a Silver Watch, maker's name ' Mollison, London'; with a gold Seal marked ' M. L.', a gold Key, and a steel Chain, attached. The pro- perty of Mr. Smith.— Supposed by a young Man, about eighteen years of age, with a dog- skin cap on. Stolen, on Thursday evening, the 3rd instant, between six and seven o'clock, from the Shop of Mrs. Eyre, Lower Marsh, Lambeth, a dozen Dessert- knives and a dozen Table ditto, marked on the blades ' Frume,' with self- tipped handles. Stolen, on Wednesday, the 2nd instant, from the House of Mr. Massey, Grocer, &. C., No. 451, Strand, the following arti- cles, viz.— A small red cornelian Seal, a small white ditto, and a red cornelian and topaz Key, attached to a black Ribbon by 3 chased Ring.— The property of Thomas Gilman, a shopman. Stolen, on Saturday evening, the 2!> th ultimo, about five o'clock, from the Shop Door of Mr. Smellie, Pawnbroker, No. 1, Clarendon- square, Somers- town, a Bundle of Gowns, about twenty- five, ot different patterns, with pawnbroker's pri- vate marks on them, ' U |' and ' C1R.'— By a Man about five feet five inches high, and dressed in a shabby black coat and trousers. Stolen, on Sunday afternoon, the 23d ultimo, between two and three o'clock, from the House of Mr. Wilton, No. 77, Red Lion- street, Holborn, the following articles, viz.— A plain silver Watch, with a Key and a gold Seal attached by a dark ribbon ; three silver Tea- spoons marked ' T. M. W.'„ and a ditto Table- spoon ' T. S. W.' Stolen, between Friday evening and Saturday afternoon, the 21st and 22d ultimo, from the House of Mr. Lazarus, No. 4, Back- road, Shadwell, the following articles, viz.— Three Shirts marked ' H. L.\ a black frock Coat with velvet collar, a ditto Waistcoat, a pair of black Trousers, an olive Coat with velvet collar, two reams of post and a quantity of foolscap Paper.
