' on. tai. iing the Substance of all Informations received in Cases of Felonies, and Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and every particular circumstance marking the Offence. The Names of Persons charged, who are known but not in Custody, and of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and every other mark uj identity that can be described. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, xcith every other particular which may lead to their Apprehension. The Names of all Persons brought before the Magistrates, charged with any of the Offences mentioned, and whether committed for Trial, Re- examination, or how otherwise disposed of. Also a Description of Property that has been Stolen, and particularly of Stolen Hones, with as much particularity as can be given, with every circumstance that may be useful for the purpose of Tracing and Recovering it. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. Whereas it hath been humbly represented unto the King, That, on the night of Thursday', the 28th day of November last, some evil- disposed person or persons did wilfully and ma- liciously set Fire to a Warehouse, the property of Mrs. Mary Brooks, situate in Chatteris, in the Isle of Ely, in the county of Cambridge; His Majesty, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the persons concerned in setting fire to the said property, hath been pleased to promise His most gracious Pardon to any one of them ( except the person who actually set fire to the same) who shall discover and give evidence against his Accom- plice or Accomplices therein, so that he she or they may be , apprehended and convicted thereof: And, as a further encouragement, a Reward of One Hun- dred Pounds will be given to any person ( except as aforesaid) who shall discover the actual offender or offenders, so that lie she or they may be apprehended and convicted of the said offence.— Fifty Pounds of such Reward will be paid by the Right Honourable the Lords Commissioners of His Majesty's Treasury; and Fifty Pounds by Mr. Joseph Saberton Saber- ton, Treasurer of die Chatteris Watch Committee. Informa- tion to be given at the Office of Mr. John Sewell, Solicitor, Chatteris, Isle of Ely, Cambridgeshire. On Monday morning, the 9th instant, a Haum Rick, at Blunham Rectory, was wilfully set on Fire and consumed.— _ r Twenty Pounds Reward will be paid to any person who will give such information that the offender or offenders may be committed for trial, and a further Reward of Thirty Pounds on conviction, by applying to the Rev. Mr. Mountain, at Blun- ham Rectory, near Bedford. On Wednesday, the 18th instant, several Ricks and other Farming Produce, the property of Messrs. T. and S. Jordan, of Stanwell Moor, near Staines, were Fired by an Incendiary and Destroyed.—£ 50 Reward will be paid by Messrs. Jordan : £ 50 by the parish of Stanwell; £ 50 by the Trustees of J. 11am brough, Esq.; and £ 50 by the County Fire Office :— for the discovery of the offender or offenders, so that he or they may he convicted, in addition to £ 200 offered by Government. Any Accomplice giving evidence may receive the said Rewards and His Majesty s Pardon.— Liberal Rewards will also be paid to any person who shall be the means of discovering and bringing to justice the perpetrators of any similar act of cowardly and diabolical destruction to Farming Property insured in the County Fire Office. ROBBERV FROM IHS PERSON. On Tuesday the 21th instant, Mr. John Bonney, of West Walton, was returning home, and was stopped about seven o'clock in Walton- lane, by two men, one ol whom knocked hiin down, and both united in robbing him of notes to the amount of seventy- five pounds, viz., six Ten- pound notes, and three Five- pound notes, of the Wisbech bank. One of the men j was about five feet nine inches high, and rather thin made, dressed apparently in a dark fustian jacket and trowsers. Who- ever will give such information as may lead to the conviction of either or both of the offenders shall receivc a Reward of Forty- five Guineas fiom Mr. Bonney, and a further Reward of Five • Guineas from Mr. Henry Leach, Treasurer to the Wisbech Association. « On Wednesday evening, the 18th instant, about seven o'clock, Hannah Caunsell was knocked down, in Snow's- fields, by a tall Man, dressed in a fustian jacket, and robbed of the following articles, viz.— A puce merino Gown, a lilac cotton ditto, a black Veil, a Thibet Shawl, a pair of lasting Shoes with double soles, a pair of black cotton Stockings, several white Aprons, a chequered silk Itandkerchief, a coloured muslin ditto, and several other articles. On Thursday night, the 19th instant, about half- past eight o'clock, as Mr. Cannon, Churchwarden of Saint Mary, White- chapcl, was proceeding along houndsditch, City, he was attack- ed bv three well- dressed Men— one, a tall man", who seized him by the collar, and the other two kicked and beat him with a bludgeon : when down an attempt was made to draw his watch from his fob, the chain of which broke— which, with three gold Seals and a Key, were stolen. The chain is a valuable gold one; two of the seals have red cornelians, the other an amethyst, all plain: the key is chased, with a cornelian on one side, and an amethyst on the other. HOUSE- BREAKING. On Friday night, the 20th instant, or early the following morning, the Dwelling- house of Mr. Richard Hough, at Threekingham, near Falkingham, Lincolnshire, was broken and entered, and the followin;; property stolen therefrom, viz.— A single- breasted green Riding Coat with gilt buttons, two white- handled Razors and Case, a Snuff- box, a pair of Scissars marked ' Dawson, London,' a silk Handkerchief, a Purse con- taining 13s. 6d. in silver, and other articles.— Whoever will give information that may lead to conviction of the offender or offenders, shall receive Ten Guineas Reward from the said Mr. Hough; and a further Reward of Ten Guineas from Mr. Smith, of Horbling, Treasurer to the Falkingham Association. On Wednesday evening, the 25th instant, between five and nine o'clock, the House of Mr. Woods, Foreman at the Cement Factory, Orchard House, Blackwall, was entered at a window adjoining the River Thames, and the following property was Stolen therefrom, viz.— One Five- pound Bank of England Note; seven Pounds in silver; twenty- nine Pounds in gold ; and a Feather Bed. On Wednesday evening, the 25th instant, the House of Mr. Williams, Beaufort- terrace, King's- road, Chelsea, was entered, during the absence of the family, and the following articles were Stolen therefrom, viz.— An olive green Coat, lined with serge ; a black lace Veil, a white ditto, a painted silk Shawl, a red brown Thibet ditto, six lace Caps, trimmed; a Silver Watch, 244G POLICE GAZETTE; Oi l , H U E A N D CRY. 2495 HOUSE- BREAKING. On Monday night, the 17th instant, between nine and- ten o'clock, the House of Mrs. Ellen, No. 25, Globe- lane, Mile- end, was entered, by means of skeleton keys, and the following articles were stolen therefrom, viz.— Silver : five Table- spoons marked ' J. S. E.', twelve Tea- spoons, a pair of Sugar- tongs, two Salts, a Salt- spoon, a Pepper- castor and part of another. Also some Cash. On Sunday night, the 16th instant, between six and ten o'clock, the House of Messrs. Andrews and Penton, Comb Manufacturers, No. 10, New Norfolk- street, Mile- end, was en- tered by means of false keys, and nine Pounds thirteen Shil- lings in cash, and three or four dozen of imperial back fluted Combs, were Stolen from a box in the first floor back room. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen, on Thursday night, the 13th instant, from a Field, belonging to Messrs. J. and G. Bennet, of Temple- Cloud, Somerset, Two Black Mares. They are calculated tor riding or drawing, about fourteen hands high, wrung on both shoulders, and a white star in the forehead : one is about seven years old, * /-— - in foal, and near foot before lately blistered and fired which has left a very plain mark ; the other is rising three years old, has the mark of a cut on her off fore foot across her fetlock joint, and three white feet.— Whoever will give information that may lead to conviction of the offender or offenders, shall receive Ten Pounds Reward, from the said Messrs. Bennet: Five Pounds to be paid on commitment, and the remainder on conviction. Stolen or Strayed, on Sunday night, the 16th instant, or early the following morning, from a Yard, at Dennerhill, in the parish of Hugendon, in the county of Bucks, a Bay Mare, in foal, about ten years old, about twelve hands high, a short cut tail, marked ' W. • M.' on each shoulder, which cannot be seen without the hair being removed, it being very long, the hoof of the off fore foot is twisted also the frog of same toot, and had on the near fetlock a leg- lock which is likely to rub the hair off. — If stolen, whoever will give information that may lead to conviction of the offender or offenders, shall receive Four Pounds reward, from Mr. W. Martin, Dennerhill aforesaid ; if strayed, Ten Shillings and all reasonable Expenses. Stolen, on Monday night, the 17th instant, or early the fol- lowing morning, from the Stable of Mr. John Ablett, of Sur- biton Common, near Kingston, a Dark Bay Gelding, seven years old, about fifteen hands and a half high, with a little white on one fetlock.— Whoever will give information that may lead to conviction of the offender or offenders, shall receive Ten Pounds Reward from the said Mr. Ablett. Stolen, on Sunday night, the 16th instant, or early the follow- ing morning, from a Barn, in Duston Field, Northampton, a Bay Horse, aged, nearly fifteen hands high, blaze down the face, near hind heel white, small scar on the off knee, small spavin on the off hock, switch tail, anflias been used in drawing.— Five Guineas Reward will be paid, on conviction of the offender or offenders, by applying to Mr. Edward Bosworth, the owner, Queen's Head, Gold- street, Northampton. Stolen, on Monday night, the 17th instant, or early the fol- lowing morning, from the Half- moon Farm Stable, at Cater- ham, Surrey, a Brown Cart Mare, seven years old, about fifteen hands high, rather low in the back, has a stripe of white down the face, a brown muzzle, black legs, long tail, and is a very fast walker.— Whoever will give sucn information as may lead to the discovery of the offender, shall, upon conviction, receive Ten Pounds Reward. Stolen, on Monday night, the 3rd instant, from a Pasture, at Tottenhill, in the occupation of Mr. Langford, a Light Chesnut horse Pony, with long light mane and tail, about twelve hands high, rising five years old, has a saddle- spot about the size of a WAR OFFICE, A List and Description of NAME. Stolen, on Wednesday morning, the 12th instant, from a Stable, belonging to Mr. John Johnson, of Coddington, near Barn Hill, in the county of Chester, a Brown Gelding, aged, fourteen hands and a half high, one off foot white, long tail, a white mark down his face, grey about his head and under the mane, and has never been shod on his hind feet.— Also, a Black Mare, rising seven years old, with long tail, one hind foot white, and a white mark down her face.— Whoever will give informa- tion to Mr. Monday, at the County Police Office, Middlewich, as may lead to conviction of the offender or offenders, shall re- ceive Five Pounds Reward. Stolen, on Monday night, the 10th instant, or early the fol- lowing morning, from a Stable, belonging to. Mr. Wm. Beevers, of Moss, near Doncaster, a Black Cart Mare, rising eight years old, about fifteen hands and a half high, and in foal; has a white mark down her face, black legs, a switch tail, has been lately rowelled in her breast, and has a small lump on the top of her loin.— WhoeveT will give information that may lead to conviction of the offender or offenders, shall receive Five Pounds Reward, by applying to the said Mr. Beevers. In- formation to be given to Mr. Williamson Etches, Doncaster, police officer. W.', in ink ; a pair of worsted Stockings; a yellow silk Handkerchief, bird pattern ; and a cotton Nightcap. — The Boy was conveying the articles from his mother's ( who is a laundress) to Mr. Woodcock's, and when near the Vinegar- ground, City- road, was accosted by another Boy, who stated that he had been sent by Mr. Woodcock for the linen. Stolen, on Sunday morning, the 16th instant, between one and eight o'clock, from the House of Mr. Chapman, No. 6, Red Lion- street, Clerkenwcll, an eight- day Time- piece, without the case, maker's name on the face ' Nichols, London '; also a few curious Shells and China Jars. — Supposed by JOHN MORRIS, formerly an apprentice to Mr. Cnapman. Stolen, on Monday morning, the 17th instant, from the Stable of the Hon. Captain Elliott, in Great Scotland Yard, a silver Watch, maker's name ' Johnson, Liverpool,' with a steel Chain, steel Key, and a mosaic gold Seal ( impression ' James'), attached.— Supposed by a lad named HENRY WILSON. He is fifteen years of age, four feet ten or eleven inches high, and dressed in a pair of dirty greasy cassimere trousers, a shaded waistcoat, shoes, black hat, and without a coat. Also stolen, at the same time, a pair of Shoes and Stockings, and 2s. in' silver. — Information to be given at the Metropolitan Police Office, in Great Scotland Yard. Stolen, on Saturday evening, the 15th instant, between six and seven o'clock, from the House of Mr. Charles Ralph Pettitt, No." 5, New Inn Passage, Clare Market, a silver Watch, maker's name ' Charles Thompson,' with ' C. R. P.' engraved on the back of the case.— By a Lad, dressed in a corduroy jacket and trousers, and cloth cap. Absconded, from his master, Thomas Nott, of the Shambles, in the city of Worcester, blacksmith, JOSEPH KNIGHT, his apprentice, stealing and taking with him a black Coat, the pro- perty of his master.— He is a singularly looking boy : his left eyelid nearly closed, walks very awkwardly and turns his feet out very much, about five feet four inches high, and wore the said coat, grey trousers, light waistcoat, nearly new hat, and a leather apron. Further particulars relating to EDMUND STOLWORTHY, who absconded on Saturday, the 18th ultimo, with property to a large amount, belonging to Benjamin Hawes, Esq., M. P.— He lately resided in East- place, Kennington; commonly dressed in black, and had a new Spanish blue cloth cloak with a velvet collar.— Whoever will give such information to Mr. Hobler, Junior, No. 30, Walbrook, City, or at any Police- station, as will lead to his apprehension, shall receive Fifty Pounds Re- ward. FELONIES NOT OTHERWISE DESCRIBED. JOHN BASE, twenty- two years of age, convicted of a Felony, at Reading, on the 31st of December 1833, and sen- tenced to seven years' transportation, made his Escape from Woolwich Dock Yard, on Friday, the 14th instant. It is sup- posed he has been supplied with clothing by some person aiding his escape, his own clothes having been left behind. He is a native of Chelsea, has light brown hair, dark eyes, light eye- brows and lashes, common nose and mouth, of fair complexion, round full visage, stout made, five feet seven inches high, said to be married and has two children, can neither read nor write, and by trade a stone- sawyer; marks on body— scar on left cheek, scar on the upper joint of his fore- finger of left hand, and scar on the first joint of thumb on same hand: it is strongly suspected he has been transported before : his relations reside in Chelsea. It has since been ascertained that he worked at his trade of a stone- sawyer, at Pimlico, and lodged at the. sign ol the ' Bag- of- Nails' " Public- house, and is well known in that neighbourhood.— Information to be given at the Public Office, Bow- street. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Obtained, by false pretences, from Mrs. Lane, of the ' King of Prussia' Public- house, Dean- street, Shadwell, £ 5.— By two Men : one dressed in a lilac jacket, breeches, drab gaiters, about five feet four or five inches high, forty- four years of age, red whiskers, fair complexion, and has the appearance of a livery servant; the other is about forty years of age, dark complexion, and has the appearance of a Jew. Absconded, from Liverpool, having fraudulently obtained Goods and Money, to a considerable amount, W. BEREND, a German Jew. He is five feet two or three inches high, between thirty- five and forty vears of age, dark hair eyes am complexion, speaks English tolerably well, steps short and ha' a quick sliding gait in walking; was dressed in black coat and waistcoat, and blue trousers. He is supposed to have gone to Manchester, from thence to Hull or London, intending to em- bark for Hamburgh or some other place on the Continent.— Information to be given to H. Castellan and Sons, Copthall- court, Throgmorton street, London; to Mr. Castellan, Exchange Chambers, Liverpool; or to Mr. Parlour, Superintendent of Police, Liverpool. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS Escaped from custody, at Wolverhampton, two men, charged with Burglary, named PAUL WINCHURCH, and WILLIAM CHANDLER, better known by the name of ' DOLLAR.' WINCHURCH stands about five feet four inches high, sallow complexion, black hair, round face, and stout made ; had on a blue coat, dark- coloured waistcoat and trowsers, rather worn, and black shag hat. CHANDLER, alias ' DOLLAR,' stand.' about five feet six inches high, light hair, and a blue mark ( forked) under the forehead, long visage, light complexion, large eyes; had on a light barragan jacket, dark brown barragan trowsers, and dark- coloured waistcoat, an old black silk hat, apparently not his own, nor a fit, and lie had rather a long beard, both are miners. Any person apprehending and lodging them in any of his Majesty Goals, shall receive Five Pounds Reward, upon application to Mr. Richard Diggory, Constable, of Wolverhampton. A man, who gives his name JOHN JOHNSON, late of John- street, Clerkenwell, has been committed to the House of Correction, at Cambridge, for three months, as a rogue and va- gabond, having been found in an inclosed yard, at Chevely Rectory, near Newmarket, with a bludgeon, for an unlawful purpose.— He appears a suspicious character; is about forty years of age, dark hair, stout made, five feet seven or eight inches high, and had on a dark shooting- jacket; says he is a married man, and worked for Mr. Cubitt, in Gray's- inn- lane, as house carpenter, three weeks ago.— Information to be given to Mr. C. Chapman, Clerk to the Magistrates, Newmarket. The Farm- yard of Mr. Edward Simson Parson, of Stoke by Nay land, Suffolk, was lately entered, by some evil- disposed person or persons, who maliciously and wantonly Poisoned, by arsenic, Twelve Fat Bullocks.— Whoever will give information that may lead to conviction of the offender or offenders, shall receive Two Hundred Pounds Reward, by applying to the said Mr. Parson. PROPERTY STOLEN. IStolen, on Wednesday evening, the 12th instant, from the ' Salopian ' Coffee- house, Charing- cross, a plain silver Coffee- pot, in the form of a sugar- loaf, with the words ' Cocoa Tree' on the rim of the lid and on the bottom. Stolen, on Friday night, the 14th instant, from No. 10, Bry- anston- mews, a double- case silver Hunting Watch, capped and jewelled ; with a large gold Seal, with cornelian stone, initials ' J. B.', attached. The property of John Boare.— By a Woman whom he took into the stable : she was dressed in a dark gown, black bonnet, and dark cloak, and is rather elderly. Stolen, on Wednesday afternoon, the 12th instant, from the Shop Door of Mr. M'Cartin, Broker, No. 23, Regent- street. Westminster, a large Print of a Christening, 20 inches by 16 inches, with black velvet let- in round the frame, and brass ornaments. On Friday afternoon, the 14th instant, between three and four o'clock, a man named Benjamin Kitchen, who had lately arrived in town from Dunnington, in Lincolnshire, was robbed of one hundred and three Sovereigns and two £ 5 Notes of the Country Banks of Holt and Co., Grantham, and Wisbech.— Mr. Kitchen was accosted, in Saint Paul's Church- yard, by a. man about thirty years of age, five feet six inches high, dressed in a black coat, spotted waistcoat, and top- boots, whom Mr Kitchen accompanied to the ' Rose and Crown ' Public- house, Collingwood- street, Blackfriars'- road, where they were shortly afterwards joined by a man about forty years of age, five feel five inches high, dressed in a blue coat and drab trousers. After Mr. Kitchen had remained some time in their company, he wa; induced to take out his money, and to allow one of the men to replace it for safety in his fob pocket. The two men shortly after quitted the house, and Mr. Kitchen soon discovered that a few halfpence, wrapped up in paper, had been placed in his pocket instead of his money. Stolen, on Saturday morning, the 15th instant, between one and six o'clock, from the House of Mr. Henry Bentham, No. 40, Great Marylebone- street, the following articles, viz.— Silver: a plain oblong Cruet- stand, with round ends, convex side, be- tween two ana three inches high, chased edges, partitions foi seven cruet- bottles, five large and two small, cut in centre- piece, fixed to a chased handle, separated from the stand by the bottom being broken out; a Mustard- spoon, two cruet- pepper Tops, a mustard- pot Top, conical form ; five Table- spoons, a pair o' Sugar- tongs, two Salt- spoons, two Tea- spoons, all marked < H. Stolen, between the 3rd and the 18th ultimo, from the Ware- house of Mr. Sandal, in Sherborne- lane, twenty- eight reams of Foolscap Paper, ten reams of Folio, and twenty reams of quarto Post Paper, also about six reams of large Post ditto. Stolen, on Friday night, the 14th instant, between eight and ten o'clock, from the' House of Mr. Davis, the ' Rising Sun' Public- house, Air- street, Piccadilly, the following property, viz. — A bottle- green Great Coat, a blue Dress Coat, a black Jacket with velvet collar, a white Marseilla Waistcoat, a figured black - atin ditto, a silk Stock, a Pocket- book with brass clasps, and a Sovereign.— Supposed by two Men who were drinking in the house at the time. Stolen, on Friday night, the 14th instant, or early the next morning, from a Desk, in the Shop of Mr. Compton, butter- man, No. 67, Welbeck- street, a Cash- box, containing a £ 5 Bank Note, about £ 3 in silver, and three Sovereigns.— Sup- posed by a Boy whom Mr. Compton took into his employ, out of charity, and who has been lately dismissed. The principal part of the jewellery was in an oval box or case, of red morocco, lined with satin. Stolen, on Saturday, the 8th instant, from the House of Colonel Drake, at Harpenden, near Saint Albans, a gold re- peater Watch, maker's name ' Le Roi, Paris'; a silver Tea- spoon, crest, hand and hatchet; also a small Bible and Prayer- book, in a dark leather case.— Ten Pounds Reward will be paid on conviction of the offender and recovery of the property. Stolen, on Tuesday, the 4th instant, a silver Watch, double- bottomed, detached lever, hard enamelled dial- plate, with seconds, and the name of ' Hamley,' on the plate ; also ' Ham- ley, Duke- street, Saint James, Watchmaker to II. R. H. the Duke of York, No. 277,' on the cap.— Whoever will give such information to Mr. C.
