Containing the Substance o f ail Informations received in Cases of Felonies, and Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and every particular circumstance marking the Offence. The Names of Persons charged, who are known but not in Custody, and of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and every other mark of identity that can be described. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every other particidar which may lead to their Apprehension. The Names of all Persons brought before the Magistrates, charged with any of the Offences mentioned, and whether committed for Trial, Re- examination, or how otherwise disposed of. Also a Description of Property that kas been Stolen, and particularly of Stolen Hones, with as much particularity as can be given, with every circumstance that may be useful for the purpose of Tracing and Recovering it. Fifty Pounds Reward will be paid to any person giving such information as may lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, by applying to Mr. H. Gaskell, Solicitor, Wigan. As no charge is made for the insertion of Articles relating to Stolen Property in the Police Gazette and Hue and Cry, all Letters addressed to the Editor upon that subject, are requested to be post- paid, otherwise the insertion requested will not take place. MURDER, AND MALICIOUSLY SHOOTING- OR STABBING- On Sunday night, the 3rd ultimo, about a quarter past twelve o'clock, a Police Constable of the K Division, was, without any trovocation, stabbed under the right eye and left arm with a nife, whilst on duty, by a man named JOHN SULLIVAN, who has been in custody of the Police several times: he is about five feet five inches high, stout made, twenty years of age, full face, fair complexion, dressed in a fustian jacket, straw hat, and white duck trousers. He has since left his lodgings.— Informa- tion to be given at the Police Office, Great Scotland Yard, or at the Police Station, Mile End Road. On Wednesday, the 30th Oct., a man and Woman, travel- lers, who are supposed to be still in the county of Kent, bar- barously assaulted, with intent to murder, Sarah Whatley ( a poor woman, sixty- four years of age, who keeps a beer- shop in Bearsted parish), with two pokers, one of which was broken and the other bent by the blows which they inflicted, chiefly on her head, so that at present there are but faint hopes of her re- covery. They robbed her of Eighteen Shillings and a bad Five- shilline- piece, which Mrs. Whatley thinks she took of them a few days previous.— The Man is nearly thirty years of age, about five feet eight inches high, of dark complexion, very dark bay and eyes, and dark pointed whiskers; he bad on a short fustian gaberdine, blue trousers, ancle- jack shoes, and a black hat. The Woman is about forty years of age, and of robust appearance ; she wore a dark straw bonnet and dirty light cot- ton gown. They had two small bundles, one of which was in a common black handkerchief: the man left a willow stick with- out the rind in the house.— Whoever will give such information as may lead to the apprehension of the offenders, shall, upon their conviction, receive Fifty Pounds Reward.— Information to be addressed to T. D. Jones, constable, Maidstone. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. On the 24th day of September last, a Wagon Lodge, in the occupation of Mr. John Curtis, of West Rudham, near Bury, Suffolk, was wilfully set on Fire and Destroyed ; and on the 25th day of October a Stack of Barley, on the Farm of the said Mr. John Curtis, was also destroyed in like manner.— One Hundred Pounds Reward will be paid by the Directors of the Suffolk Fire Office, and a further Reward of One Hundred Pounds bv the said Mr. John Curtis, to any person who will give such information as shall lead to conviction of the person or persons by whom either of the said Fires were occasioned. Information to be given to Mr. S. Tuthill, Fakenham, Agent to the Suffolk Fire Office. Whereas it hath been humbly represented unto the King, that on the night of Monday, the. 4th of November, instant, a , Rick of Straw, standing in the farm- yard of Mr. Samuel Bal- ; lard Pickett, at Wroughton, near Swindon, in toe county of f Wilts, was feloniously and maliciously set on fire by sont" per- son or persons unknown ; and that a Barn, Stable, and other Outbuildings, together with al> out ninety sa>' i. s of Wheat in the Barn, two Wheat- ricks, a Bean- rick, a Ilay- rick, and two ricks of Straw, besides other properly of less value, were there- by totally destroyed; His Majesty, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the persons concerned in setting fire to the said property hath been pleased to promise His most gracious Pardon to any one of them ( except the person who actually set fire to the same) who shall discover and give evidence against his accomplice or accomplices therein, so that he she or they may be appre- hended and convicted thereof: And, as a further encouragement, a Reward of One Hun- dred Pounds will be given to any person ( except as aforesaid) who shall discover the actual offender or offenders, so that he she or they may be apprehended and convicted of the said offence. Fifty Pounds of such Reward will he paid by the Right Honourable the Lords Commissioners of his Majesty's Treasury, and the remaining Fifty Pounds by the said Samuel Ballard Pickctt. Information to be given at the offices of Messrs. Bradford and Burt, Solicitors, Swindon, Wilts. ROBBERY FROM THE PERSON On Saturday morning, the 30th ultimo, about two o'clock, Mr. Richard Ellis, of Pattenham, Surrey, was stopped on the Portsmouth Road, near Esher, by three Men, two of whom presented pistols, while the third robbed him of a yellow canvas Bag, containing sixteen Sovereigns, four Half crown pieces, and one Sixpence. — The Men were about thirty years of age, about five feet nine or ten inches hi^ h, and stout made; tw o of them are of fair complexion, and dressed in light rough great coats, die other of dark complexion, and dressed in a dark Brighton beaver great coat.— Thev were seen by Mr. Ellis, at the * Three Coats' 1 leads' Public- house, Wandsworth- road, between one and two o'c'oel; on Friday afternoon, from which place it is " ipposcd they followed him. They wire in a dark painted Gig \ v; ih yellow b.'. rs. Mr. Ellis was returning from Covent Garden Market, villi his wagon, which he was driving when stopped by the above parties. 2358 P O L I C E GAZETTE; Oi l , H U E A N D CRY. 2495 HOUSE- BREAKING. On Friday night, the 29th ultimo, or early the following morning, the Dwelling- house of Mrs. Harrington, at the North- gate, Bury St. Edmund's, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom; an olive Great Coat, an olive cloth Cloak with a stand- up collar, black Astrachan fur, lined with white shalloon, blue camlet Cloak, lined with drab shalloon; old black silk Cloak, lined with blue silk, light drab great Coat, blue great Coat, gilt buttons, striped swansdown waistcoat, four beaver Hats, brown Cap, light blue Cap, blue great Coat, silvered buttons, scarlet Cloak, green and red plaid Cloak, two pair of Cloth Boots, brown silk Umbrella, and a pair of drab kerseymere long Gaiters. Whoever will ap- prehend the offender or offenders, shall on conviction receive Two Guineas Reward, by applying to the Rev. Mr. Thompson. Information to be given to Mr. R. Caney, Police Officer, Brentgovel- street, Bury. On the 28th ultimo, two Men went to the House of Mr. Neil, the ' Golden Lion ' Inn, Bath, said they had just arrived from London, and intended staying for two or three days: they slept at the house that night, and the next morning, about eleven o'clock, they picked the locks of a bed- room door and drawers, and stole the following property, viz.— Silver: fourteen Tea- spoons, four Table- spoons, three pair of Sugar- tongs, three Salt- spoons, all marked ' J. C. N.'; a Bowl of a punch- ladle, a Fish- slice, a silver Snuff- box ; a lady's gold Watch, a gold curb Chain, a gold Seal; six or seven gold Rings, one of them a dark mourning- ring, with motto ' a gift from james Neil to Cathe- rine Neil two gold Brooches with hair, a gold Pin with corne- lian stone, five plain gold Brooches and one with pearl; two £ 5 Notes of Tugwell and Co.' s Bank, Bath; a £ 5 Shaftesbury Bank Note ; and about £ 35 in other monies.— One of the Men is about five feet seven inches high, slender made, twenty- eight years of are, dark brown hair and whiskers, sallow complexion, wore a danc olive coat, double- breasted buff waistcoat, and light drab kerseymere trousers; the other is about five feet four inches high, twenty years of age, dark hair, no whiskers, wore a blue lappel coat, black waistcoat, and dark trousers. On Sunday night, the 3rd ultimo, or early the following morning, the House of Mr. Williamson, No. 22, Mount- street, Whitecnapel, was entered by means of false keys, the family being in the country, and the following articles were Stolen therefrom, viz.— Two feather Beds, one of the ticks is a light pattern, and the other a dark pattern; two peculiar pattern Home made Counterpanes, a seam down the middle ; a chintz calico ditto ; a pair of Scotch Sheets, with red borders ; a pair of English ditto ; two pair of fine twilled linen ditto, one pair marked ' A. Storey,' with durable ink, the other pair ' J. E Williamson four pair of coarse twilled linen ditto, two pair marked with black silk ' A. S.' and two pair ' E. S.'; two pair of cotton and linen ditto, very stout; three and a half pair of fine plain linen ditto ; three new unbleached Table- cloths of the Dumfermline make ; nine others of various sizes, one of them having ' M. Story' wove into the border, and another ' T. Story' wove into the border ; two grey squirrel Muffs ; one black lynx Muff and Boa; two dozen Towels, six of them quite new, and of the bird's- eye pattern ; twelve Tea- spoons of the fiddle shape, not marked ; six ditto, some of them marked ' L. L. M.' and the others ' J. M. S.'; a pair of Sugar- tongs, marked ' T. M. S.'; a pair of ditto with cut wreathed pattern on the legs; a pair of ditto to match the twelve' tea- spoons; two Mustard- spoons and four Salt ditto, marked ' E. S.'; two old- fashioned Table- spoons; an antique Highland Silver Brooch, peculiar to the Hebrides of Scotland ; and a Punch- ladle without a handle, marked • J. M. S.'; also various articles of Female Apparel. On Sunday evening, the 1st instant, between seven and eight o'clock, the Dwelling- house of Mr. Hoe, No. 7, Cranmer- road, Brixton, was entered by means of skeleton keys, during the absence of the family at Church, and the following articles WAR OFFICE, Jl List and Description of NAME. On Wednesday, the 27th ultimo, about three o'clock in the aftrrnoon, a man very much marked with the small- pox, about five feet six or seven inches high, hired at Cambridge a Mare and Gig, to go to Bury St. Edmunds, at which place he left the mare, and hired a Dark Bay Mare of Mr. Kemp, about nine o'clock the same evening, taking the Gig and Harness with him, neither of which has since been returned, and it is sup- posed he has stolen the same. The Gig is painted green, picked out with black, patent boxes with iron caps, harness brass mounted, ornamented with a fox's head. Mr. Kemp's Bay Mare about fourteen hands and an inch high, blind in the oft" eye, and hair oft' the fetlock- joint. Supposed to be the man who obtained a horse and gig at Birmingham in the same way. On Thursday night, the 28th ultimo, the Stable of Thomas Woodward, Esq., of Sproughton, near Ipswich, was broken and entered, and a Dark Brown Bay Gelding Stolen therefrom. He is six years old, has lost four of the front teeth, two from the upper and two from the lower jaw, the front and corner remaining entire; a switch tail, off hind foot white, a splint on the off fore leg, thick in the glands, a thickness on the outside of both hind legs just below the hock- joints, and had two new shoes on behind, the fore ones were old.— Also, a curb Bridle, the headstall thereof was old, and the two reins were new, the bits and curb rusty ; and a Saddle, about half worn, with spring bars and bright stirrups, and the maker's name under the flap, ' Wade, Saddle and Harness Maker, Corn- hill, Ipswich.— The Horse was taken on the road towards Ipswich, a snort distance, and it there appeared as if he had been tied to a gig or cart, or harnessed and put therein ; and was then turned back and took the road towards hadleigh. A person suspected was seen to leave Ipswich at ten o'clock on Thursday night in a dark gig with a dark horse; he was dressed in a dark rough coat, ana inquired the distance and way to Sproughton by the Hadleigh road.— Whoever will give such information as will lead to a conviction of the offender or offenders, shall receive Ten Pounds Reward from the Samford Association, and a further Reward of Ten Pounds from Mr. Woodward.— Lawrence, Solicitor to the Association. Stolen, on Thursday night, the 28th uitlmo,' or early the following morning, from Hanger- Hill Farm, Ealing, a black Cart Mare, aged, fifteen hands high, three white feet, a blaze down the face, long tail, and a large callous mark on the fetlock of the off hind leg.— The property of Mr. Goddard. Stolen, on Saturday night, the 30th ultimo, from a Close, adjoining the village of Skeffington, Leicestershire, a stout Bay Pony, rising seven years old, fourteen hands high, black legs, no white except a few saddle- marks, rather short cut tail, trots well, and his action good.— Whoever will give information that may lead to conviction of the offender or offenders, shall receive Ten Guineas Reward from the Billesdon Association; and also Five Guineas Reward from Mr. Robert Sikes, the owner, of Skeffington, aforesaid. Stolen, on Saturday night, the 30th ultimo, or early the fol- lowing morning, from a Field, in the parish of Swalcliffe, a Fat Ewe Sheep, which was killed on the other side of the hedge, leaving the skin and entrails.— Whoever will give information that may lead to conviction of the offender or offenders, shall receive Ten Pounds Reward from Mr. John Greaves, the owner, of Swalcliffe Lea, near Banbury ; and also Ten Pounds Reward from Mr. J. P. Judge, Treasurer of the Neithrop Association for the protection of Property. A Man calling himself JOSEPH PYE was apprehended by J. Unwin, Police Officer, Leicester, at Cambridge, on the 16th inst., and is committed to the County Gaol at Leicester, charged with Horse Stealing. A Horse supposed to be stolen, of which the following is a description, was found in his pos- session, viz.,— a dark- brown Stallion, aged, fourteen hands two or three inches high, long tail, dark legs, mixed with grey hairs round the middle of the legs, a white ring just above the boof of the near hind leg, a small streak of white on the fore- head, and a streak of white on the nose. Stolen or Strayed, on Friday night, the 22nd ultimo, from the Farm- yard of Mr. Herrett, of Tongham, near Farnham, a Chesnut Horse Pony, about twelve hands and a half high, mane and tail short, the mane rather silvery, lare- eared, very thick, strong, and active, and rising five years old. She was taken from Marylebone Workhouse, on Wednesday last, into the service. JOHN COOK, about five feet three or four inches high, stout made, from forty to forty- five years of age, has the ap- pearance of a countryman, and who was committed from the Marlborough- street Office, on the 18th ultimo, and discharged on the Monday following, for want of sufficient evidence, is suspected of having, on the 27th day of May 1830, at the ' Hercules' Public- house, at Lambeth, feloniously stolen, from the person of David Sinclair, of Fulmer, Gerrard's Cross, Bucks, the sum of Four Hundred Pounds, in Five- pound Bank of England Notes. Absconded, a Youth ( late of the New Road), with a consider able sum of Money, belonging to his employers, including a Bunk of England Note for One Hundred Pounds, ' No. 7410," • dated ' 28th October, 1833.'— He is about nineteen years of age, about five feet eight inches high, very slim in person, small tliin face, fair complexion, without whiskers, has lost the use of tme of his thumbs, and scarred; he was dressed in black clothes, MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS On the night of the 25th ult., or early the following morn- ing, two prisoners escaped from the Haddington Gaol, Scotland, viz.— WILLIAM LINDORES, confined upon a charge of Housebreaking at Todhurgh, in the parish of Ebron, Berwick- shire ; also a Deserter from the 1st. Battalion 2nd Regiment of Foot, a native of East Lothian, by trade a Sawyer; is " suspected to have gone either to Newcastle- upon- Tyne, London, Glasgow, or Liverpool, and will likely ship for America. He is about twenty- one years of age, five feet six inches high, hazel eyes, light- brown hair and eyebrows, no whiskers, small nose, fair complexion, round face, marked with the small pox, stout built, is rather good looking, walks upright, and has a peculiar swing in the arms when walking, generally dresses as a gamekeeper, and calls himself one, is a notorious poacher, but has a very genteel appearance.— PAUL MARTIN, a native of Dalkeith, confined upon various charges of Theft; is about seventeen years of age, five feet six incnes in height, dark hair and eyes, sallow complexion, a peculiar small nose, being much indented ( naturally) on the bridge, slight built, has lost one of his front teeth, dress and appearance of a vagrant, generally sells matches about the country. Whoever will apprehend one or both and lodge them in any of his Majesty's Gaols, shall receive Five Pounds Reward upon application to John Richardson, Esq., Procurator Fiscal, Haddington. Stopped, on Monday afternoon, the 2nd instant, about two o'clock, in the Saint Pancras Road, in possession of a Man who refuses to give his name, and who is now in custody, a Truck, supposed to have been Stolen : the body is painted light blue, the wheels chocolate, one of the front staves is broken, and the name has been rubbed out.— Application to be made at the Police Station, Phoenix- street, Somers- town, where the Truck may be seen. Stolen, on the night of the 26th ult., from the Auction- room of Mr. Winstanley, Church- street, Liverpool, the following articles, viz.— one white Thibet Shawl, one amber Canton crape ditto, one black ditto, one gauze Dress, one Canton Shawl, one fancy ditto, nine yards scarlet Persian, fifteen yards brown Lutestring, seven yards scarlet ditto, thirteen yards and a quarter green ditto, nine yards and a quarter dove ditto, nineteen yards and a quarter rich crimson, twelve yards rich ducape, eleven yards Esterhazy, ten yards rich black, two brown silk Umbrellas, one green silk ditto, three net Veils, one rich ditto, three black lace Veils, one plaid Shawl, two damask breakfast Cloths, one gentleman's brown camblet Cloak, one gold Seal, one metal French Watch with glass broken, one silver engraved Medal ( Henry the Fourth of France), silver Compass, pair silver- mounted Spectacles, one silver Half- shekel, one patent lever Watch, made by ' Richard Fleming, Liverpool, No. 5030,' opens and winds up at the back, barrel- edges, and capped and jewelled, and about twenty pounds in Silver.— Whoever will give such information that may lead to the apprehension of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, shall on conviction, receive Ten Guineas Reward, on application to Mr. Parlour, Police- office, Liverpool aforesaid.
