Containing the Substance of atl Informations received in Cases of Felonies, and Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thitves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and every particular circumstance marking the Offence. The Names of Persons charged, who are known but not in Custody, and of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and every other mark of identity that can be described. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, icith every other particular which may lead to their Apprehension. The Names of all Persons brought before the Magistrates, charged with any of the Offences mentioned, aid whether committed for Trial, Re- examination, or kow otherwise disposed of. UIUEBSR, AND MALICIOUSLY SHOOTING OE STABBING- The following is a description of three men, who stand charged on the Coroner's Inquest at Albrough, Yorkshire, with the wilful murder of John Brown, viz., WILLIAM HACK- NEY, formerly a labourer, latterly an oyster- man, about twenty- six years of age, five feet six or eight inches high, about twelve or thirteen stone, of rather ruddy complexion, rather broad- set, dark eyes and hair, full faced, rather high in the cheek bones, left Hull on themorning of the 31st October, went to Boston, slept at Boston all night, and took the Perseverance coach for London at six o'clock on Friday morning the 1st November, outside, had on a dark great- coat, had two suits of clothes with him, one a new suit of black, appeared to be much hiuised about the forehead, had a bandage about his head, appeared to have much inward pain when he coughed, had a mark or scar from the corner of the right side of the mouth to the chin, was a native of Hull, and when he talks rather shows his teeth.— THOMAS WILKINSON, a nail- maker, a native of Hull, about twenty- eight or thirty years of age, about five feet eight inches high, eleven or twelve stone weight, walks cftiick, takes short strides, rather sallow complexion, neither . stout or slender, but in a middling way, thin of flesh in face, round face, rather high cheek- bones, supposed to be in Hull or the neighbourhood.— WILLIAM THOMPSON, by trade a hutcher, about thirty years of age, stout made, about five feet eleveij inches high, weighs about fourteen stone, fair or ruddy complexion, generally wears a high- crowned hat, snuff- coloured coat, drab trowsers or breeches, gaiters or boots, walks very straight and upright, of rather genteel appearance, supposed to , be a regular thief, and most probably well known in the ring, and amongst the thimblemen in London, supposed to be a Northamptonshire man, and probably now in London with Hackney, being his second. Information to be given to Mr. John Bowley, or Francis Smith, constables of Hull, Yorkshire. On Sunday night, the 3rd instant, about a quarter past twelve o'clock, a Police Constable of the K Division, was, without any Iwovocation, stabbed under the right eye and left arm with a tnife, whilst on duty, by a man named JOHN SULLIVAN, who has been in custody of the Police several times: he is about five feet five inches high, stout made, twenty years of age, lull face, fair complexion, dressed in a fustian jacket, straw hat, and white duck trousers. He has since left his lodgings.— Informa- tion to be given at the Police Office, Great Scotland Yard, or at the Police Station, Mile End Road. On Wednesday, the 30th ultimo, a Man and Woman, travel- lers, who arc supposed to be still in the county of Kent, bar- barously assaulted, with intent to murder, Sarah Whatley ( a poor woman, sixty- four years of age, who keeps a beer- shop in Bearsted parish), with two pokers, one of which was broken and the other bent by the blows which they inflicted, chiefly on her head, so that at present there are but faint hopes of her re- covery. They robbed her of Eighteen Shillings and a bad Five- shilling- piece, which Mrs. Whatley thinks she took of them a few days previous.— The Man is nearly thirty years of age, about five feet eight inches high, of dark complexion, very dark i hair and eyes, and dark pointed whiskers; he had on a short ; fustian gaberdine, blue trousers, ancle- jack shoes, and a black I hat. The Woman is about forty years of age, and of robust appearance; she wore a dark straw bonnet and dirty light cot- ton gown. They had two small bundles, one of which was in a common black handkerchief: the man left a willow stick with- out the rind in the house.— Whoever will give such information as may lead to the apprehension of the offenders, shall, upon their conviction, receive Fifty Pounds Reward.— Information to be addressed to T. D. Jones, constable, Maidstone. And, as a further encouragement, a Reward of One Hun- dred Pounds will be given to any person ( except as aforesaid) who shall discover the actual offender or offenders, so that he she or they may be apprehended and convicted of the said offence. Fifty Pounds of such Reward will be paid by the Right Honourable the Lords Commissioners of his Majesty's Treasury, and the remaining Fifty Pounds by the said Samuel Ballard Pickett. Information to be given" at the offices of Messrs. Bradford and Burt, Solicitors, Swindon, Wilts. Whitehall, October 29th, 1833. Whereas it hath been humbly represented unto the King, That, on the night of Tuesday, the 15th day of October instant, or early on the following morning, some evil- disposed person or persons feloniously broke open the Dwelling- house of Mr. Scott, the Bailiff" of the Right Honourable Lord Montagu, at Ditton Park, Bucks, situated within the Moat, and attempted in two different places to set it on fire, by means of a quantity of gunpowder, taken from a tin box, found in one of the rooms; His Majesty, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the persons concerned in the felony before mentioned, is hereby pleased to promise His most gracious Pardon to any one of them ( except the person or persons who attempted to set fire to the house) who shall discover his Accomplice or Accomplices therein, so lhat he she or they may be apprehended and con- victed thereof. MELBOURNE. And, as a further encouragement, a Reward of One Hun- dred Guineas is hereby offered to any person ( except as afore- said) who shall discover the said offender or offenders, so that he she or they may be apprehended and convicted of the said offence.— Such Reward to be paid on application to Mr. Scott. Whereas it hath been humbly represented unto the King, that on the night of Monday, the 4tn of November, instant, a Rick of Straw," standing in the farm- yard of Mr. Samuel Bal- lard Pickett, at Wroughton, near Swindon, in the county of Wilts, was feloniously and maliciously set on fire by some per- son or persons unknown ; and that a Barn, Stable, and other Outbuildings, together with about ninety sacks of Wheat in the Barn, two Wheat- ricks, a Bean- rick, a Hay- rick, and two ricks of Straw, besides other properly of less value, were there- by totally destroyed ; His Majesty, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the persons concerned in setting fire to the said property hath been pleased to promise His most gracious Pardon to any one of them ( except the person who actually set fire to the same) who shall discover and give evidence against his accomplice or accomplices therein, so that he she or they may be appre- hended and convicted. thcrcof: ROBBERY FROM THE PERSON- JOSEPH SAYERS stands charged with having, on the 3rd day of September last, committed a robbery from the person of Robert Minns, of Offton, in the county of Suffolk, and a war- rant has been issued for his apprehension.— He is five feet eight inches high, light complexion, long visage, very sharp nose, long chin, thin person and face, light hair, about twenty- three years of age, and turns his toes in when walking.— Whoever will give information that may lead to his apprehension, shall re- ceive Fifteen Pounds Reward, on application to the Church- wardens and Overseers of the said parish of Offton; or to Mr. Pownall, Solicitor, Ipswich. 2346 POLICE GAZETTE; Oi l , H U E A N D CRY. 2495 HOUSE- BREAKING. On Tuesday night, the 19th instant, the house of Mr. Wil- liam Daniels, No. 95, Rosemary- lane, was entered at the back parlour window, by getting over a wall, and the following arti- cles were stolen therefrom, viz.— A dark silk Cloak with pink lining, two linen Shirts, two Shifts, six pair of Stockings, one Table- cloth, two pair of children's Boots, a Violin, two Chairs, a Sack, and a brown Pinafore. On Saturday night, the 9th instant, the Dwelling- house of Mr. Bridgman, at the corner of Chapman- street, Cannon- street- road, was broken and entered, a panel of the back door having been taken out by means of a gimlet and chisel, the latter of which was left behind, and several articles were Stolen, in- cluding a Gold Seal with a red cornelian stone, engraved ' J. B.' On Friday morning, the 22d instant, between twelve and six o'clock, the House of Mr. Dickson, Clapham Common, was entered by forcing out a panel of the front door, with a large gimlet and crow- bar, and the following articles were stolen therefrom, viz.— A large damask Table- cloth, marked ' Dick- son ' in ink; a Kitchen Ditto, same mark; a silver Thimble ; a Reading- glass, mounted with horn; a silk Handkerchief, buff ground, spotted, marked ' C. R.'; and Ts. in silver. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen, on Friday night, the 15th instant, from a field at Muston, near Sea'thro,' Yorkshire, a bay Filly, rising three years old, fifteen hands high, rather round forehead, a quantity of white hairs in her mane and tail, has been broken in, short cut tail, and has a rim of white hairs at the tail head.— Also stolen, on the same night, from a field at F'alsgrave, near Scarbro', aforesaid, a bay Mare, seven years old, fourteen hands and a half high, two broken knees, and shoulders much galled by the collar. They were seen in possession of two gypsies, one about thirty- two years of age, tall, and slightly marked with the small- pox, and wore a long coat. They were traced to Hull. Information to be given to Mr. Pearson Wright, of Falsgrave, near Scarbro', or to Mr. William Brampton, of Muston, aforesaid. Found, in the Edgware- road, on Monday evening, the 18th instant, a Black Mare, of the Cart breed, six years old, fifteen hands and a half high, blind in the off eye, a white blaze down the face, both hind legs and the near fore foot white, and a nearly healed wound on the chest. Supposed to have been stolen. — Apply at the Green- yard, or Police- station, Pad- dington. The ten Woodland Wether Sheep, advertised in the ' Hue and Cry,' of the 6th instant, as having been stolen from a Field, in Minchull Remon, Cheshire, have been found, and two Men committed for trial for stealing them. Stolen, on W'ednesday night, the 20th instant, from Ewell, near Epsom, a Chesnut Horse, rather more than fifteen hands high, has a small defect in the right eye, legs rather lighter colour than the body, about seven years old, and has lately been trimmed.— Ten Pounds Reward will be paid, for the recovery of the lmrse and apprehension of the offender or offenders. Application to be made to Mr. Thomas Seaman, Ew ell, near Epsom. Stolen, on Sunday night, the 17th instant, or early the fol- lowing morning, from a Stable, belonging to Mr. Joseph Smith, Nurseryman, of Tansley, near Matlock, Derbyshire, a half- bred Bay Gelding, rising five years old, fifteen hands high, dim small star on the forehead, switch tail, a small white mark on the end of his nose, some grey hairs on the off stifle- joint, and has a tooth out of place which has been cut with a chisel and filed.— Whoever will give information that may lead to convic- tion of the offender or offenders, shall receive Five Pounds Reward from the said Mr. Smith. On Sunday night, the 17th instant, or early the following morning, a fat Ewe Sheep was stolen from a turnip fold in Berry Moor, and killed in Lamb's Ground, the property of Mr. T. Stevens, of Easington, near Banbury. The skin and entrails were left in the ground. A Reward of Five Pounds will be paid by Mr. T. Stevens, and a further Reward of Ten Pounds by Mr. J. P. Judge, Treasurer of the Neithrop Associa- tion for the Protection of Property, to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. On Saturday morning, the 16th instant, a Man went to Mr. Thomas Griffin's, Castle and Falcon, Snow- hill, Birmingham, and hired a horse and gig to go to Dudley, and not return-! ing, it is supposed he has stolen the same. The horse is a light chesnut, aged, about fourteen and a half hands high, cut tail, with broken knees. The gig a dennet one, painted green, picked out black, with brown lining. The man is about thirty- five years of age, and about five feet eight inches high ; had on a dark- brown top coat, a dark- red handkerchief with white spots, tied round his mouth, pale and thin face, marked with the small- pox. The said RICHARD THOMAS is about seventeen years of age, about five feet five inches high, has lost the top of one finger, and was dressed in a light drab livery frock coat, with plated buttons, with crest on them, a lion rampant, and a barometer in his paws, a waistcoat with white ground and red stripe, or red ground and black stripe, drab cloth breeches and gaiters, with mother- of- pearl buttons, his linen all marked ' Mr. Arney's servant,' and his hat has an oilskin on it, and a cockade. JOHN HOWARTH alias JOHN ROBINSON, of Hatfield Woodhouse, near Doncaster, farmer's servant, stands charged with breaking and entering the Barn in the occupation of Mr. E. Hirst, of Hatfield Woodhouse aforesaid, on Friday night, the 15th instant, and stealing therefrom a Sack of blin Corn, the property of Mr. Hirst.— He is about twenty- three years of age, five feet eight inches high, slender made, walks lame and whole- footed on the right foot, long face and sun- freckled, dark sandy hair, and has followed the farming business.— Informa- tion to be given to Mr. Williamson Etches, constable, Don- caster. THOMAS JUDD stands charged with being concerned in robbing Mr. Joseph Brown ( of Streering), at Great Parndon, Essex," on the 4th instant, and has absconded.— He is about five feet five inches high, fair complexion, and has the appearance of a countryman; was dressed in a dark smock- frock, broad brimmed dog's- hair hat, and high shoes. He was seen on Sa- turday, the 16th instant, at Brentwood, in company with his wife: supposed to be in London or its neighbourhood, or in Kent.— Any information that will lead to his apprehension, to be given to William Higgins, Bow- street Horse Patrol, stationed at Epping, Essex. On the 5th instant MATTHEW EGAN was employed by- James Brennan to carry a Box containing Fiftv- one Sovereigns, Five Bank of England Notes, value Five Pounds each, and various other articles, from Newport Salop to Liverpool, and at Bletchley, about Four Miles from Market Drayton, Salop, he broke open the Box and stole the contents. The said MATTHEW EGAN is about five feet six inches high, about thirty years of age, sandy whiskers, and hair rather dark, com- plexion full, round face, broad shoulders, thick set, and wore at the time a short Stable Jacket, Corderoy Breeches, a pair of old Leggings, is a native of Mayo Ireland, and has a father ( Martin Egan) living at Bolton in Lancashire. Whoever will give such information as will lead to the conviction of the said MATTHEW EGAN and recovery of the property, shall receive a Reward of Ten Pounds on application to Mr. Wm. Worral, Constable, Newport, Salop, aforesaid. FELONIES NOT OTHERWISE DESCRIBED. On Wednesday night, the 20th instant, a party of Poachers in Spye Park, near Devizes, armed with various descriptions of offensive weapons, assaulted the Keeper, and forcibly took away his rifle and snapped a gun at him.— Fifty Guineas Reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to conviction of either the party who seized the rifle or snapped the gun ; and a further Reward of Ten Guineas will be paid on conviction of each or any of the offenders. Stolen, on Tuesday night, the 19th instant, between ten and eleven o'clock, from the person of James Cook, of No. 1, Queen's- place, Blackheath- road, Greenwich, at a house near the sign of the ' Blue Anchor,' Rosemary- lane, an old- fashioned Silver Watch, maker's name ' M'Cune, No. 120,' the dial- plate filed round the edge and bronzed, with a cap over the key- hole ; also two gold Seals, one bearing a motto ' I live for you'; a Key, a steel Chain : one Sovereign, and one Half- sovereign.— By a young Woman, a native of Scotland, who described her- self as residing in the Borough ; she is about five feet six inches high, of rather dark complexion, and has lost one of her front teeth. Stolen, on Wednesday afternoon, the 20th instant, between two and three o'clock, from No. 2, Arundel Terrace, White Conduit Fields, a Basket of Linen, containing five Table- cloths, seven children's Night- gowns, two Night- gowns, and three Shifts, marked ' W.'; a damask Napkin, ' W. G. M.'; a quan- tity of children's Shifts,' W. L. C.'; four children's Pinafores, spotted, and trimmed with blue braid ; and a quantity of chil- dren's Petticoats, Flannels, Towels, Aprons, & c. — By a Woman, about twenty- six or thirty years of age, five feet six or seven inches high, very good looking, and pleasing counte- nance, dressed in a light striped gown and a light shawl, who represented herself as coming from the mangler. Further description of the Cloak stolen from the House of Mr. Wooller, in Nelson- square, Southwark, on the 18th instant, viz.— It is a very large size, lined with a breadth of black silk on each side, set very full round the collar which is black sable, black silk cord and tassel, and has a stain in the silk lining.
