OLICE OR, HUE IhiWiolrt tu GAZETTE; AND CRY. No. 420. WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 25, 1832. Containing the Substance of all Informations received in Cases of Felonies, and Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and every particular circumstance marking the Offence. The Names of Persons charged, who are known but not in Custody, and of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and every other mark of identity that can be described. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every other particular which may lead to their Apprehension. The Names of all Persons brought before the Magistrates, charged with any of the Offences mentioned, and whether committed for Trial, Re- examination, or how otherwise disposed of Also a Description of Property that has been Stolen, and particularly of Stolen Horses, with as much particularity as can be given, with every circumstance that may be useful for the purpose of Tracing and Recovering it. A List of Convicts who have Escaped from New South Wales prior to 1st July, 1831. NAME. Butler on left arm since transported to Norfolk Island scar on left side of mouth ; mole inside rt. eyebrow scar between 2d and 3d fingers of right hand dark mole on left eyebrow; scar on forehead hair mole on left cheek As no charge is made for the insertion of Articles relating to Stolen Property in the Police Gnzctte and Hue and Cry, all Letters addressed to the Editor upon that subject, are requested to be post- paid. MURDER, AND MALICIOUSLY SHOOTING OR STABBING, BARNEY CAIN, late of Buckeridge- street, Saint Giles, Labourer, stands charged with feloniously killing and slay- ing Michael Welch.— The said BARNEY CAIN stands about five feet eight inches and a half high, is about thirty years of age, of dark complexion, full face, and brown bushy whiskers; is a native of Ireland, and has an impediment in Lis speech. He had on, when he absconded, on Thursday the 12th instant ( the day on which the said Michael Welch died), an old fustian shooting jacket, leather apron, knee breeches, worsted stockings, and black hat. The Coroner's Warrant for his apprehension is in the hands of John Sher- lock Simpson, of No. 25,, Orchard- street, Westminster, parish constable. On the 15th of October 1831, a Checque, purporting to Wear the signatures of Machin, Debenham, and Storr, of King- street, Covent- garden, and drawn on Messrs. Hopkin- son's, Bankers, Regent- street, for £ 258, was paid by them in the following Bank of England Notes, and since proved to be a Forgery ; viz. Nos. 13490, dated 9th Sept. 1831, for £ 100. 7785 — 5th Sept. — for 50. 11324 — 16th Sept. — for 50. 11325 — 16th Sept. — for 50. Balance in Gold : the Bank Note No. 13496, 100/.. was ex- changed for Gold at the Bank, on the afternoon of the same day, in the name of 4 Edward Wallis,' endorsed" both on it and the checque: No. 7785, one of the 50/. Notes, was clianged at the Coventry Bank, on the 22d of October, en- dorsed « T. Andrews, West Smithfield, LondonNo. 11325. another 50/. Note, was changed at the Birmingham Branch Bank, on the same day, also endorsed 4 Thomas Andrews, as above, paid in the following £ 5 Branch Notes, viz. Nos. 8680, 8681, 86S2, 86S3, and 8684, all dated the 16th August, 1831, for £ 5 each. Balance in Gold : No. 8680, one of the said Notes w as paid into the Liverpool Branch Bank, endorsed 4 Wm. Milem, Soho- square,' and the name 4 Bryant.' No. 8684, endorsed 4 Mr. Deane, Fish- street- hill, 24th October, 1831,' was paid into the Bank of England, on the 28th October. The follow- ing Notes are yet in circulation, viz. Ncs. 11324, dated 16th Sept. 1831, for £ 50. 8681 — 16th Aug. 1831, for 5. 8682 — 16th Aug. 1831, for O. 8683 — 16th Aug. 1831, for 5. It is requested should any of the said Notes be offered in payment, immediate information of the persons holding the same, be given to A. Charles, Esq., No. I, Birchin- lane, Cornhill. Payment of the same being stopped at the Bank. HOUSe- BreAkInG Stolen, on Saturday morning, the 21st instant, about eleven o'clock, from the House of Mr. George Gunnell, in Holy well- street, Westminster, the following articles, viz.— One plated Tea- pot, six large silver Forks, six small ditto ditto, six Tea- spoons, four Dessert ditto, four large Table ditto, one Gravy ditto, one Butter- knife, one Toast- rack, and a pair of Sugar- tongs. The whole of the above articles were crested, 4 A Lion rampant, with a Hand and Apple'; and were deposited in a small wicker basket, lined with green baize. They were stolen during the temporary ab- sence of the servant, and suspicion rests on a Woman going about with tapes, laces, &. c.— Information to be given at the Police Station, New- way, Tothill- street, Westminster. On Friday night, the 20th instant, between six and eleven o'clock, some Thieves entered the House of Joseph Cooke, Esq., No. 23, Marlborough- buildings, Bath, and the follow- ing articles Stolen therefrom, viz.— A large diamond Cross and a small ditto, a pair of large diamond Ear- rings, one equamine Cross and Ear- rings, one broad gold Chain with aqaa marine clasps, a diamond Brooch with hair, two pearl hoop Rings, pair ot long black Ear- rings, two diamond Rings, ten various small Rings and Pins, one amethyst Necklace with large stories, an amethyst Cross and Ear- rings, one pair of amethyst double- row Bracelets with large stones, one garnet Cross and Ear- rings, an amethyst Head Ornament with large stones, one large cable gold Chain, one small gold Watch- chain, a pair of gold long drop Ear- rings, a hair Bracelet with mottos and miniature clasp set in gold, a gilt Bracelet ( father's miniature) clasps set in gold, a black jet Necklace and Cross Ear- rings, six King's pat- tern large Forks, six ditto small Forks, six ditto largo Spoons, six ditto small Spoons; one small French Watch, with enamelled back, ;> et round with pearls, and gold orna- ments attached ; a garnet Bracelet, a red cornelian Heart and Ear- rings, a w hite cornelian Cross ; a Mosaic Brooch, Ear- rings, and Ring ; a pearl Brooch and Ear- rings : Fifty- live Pounds, in Notes of 51. each, of the Bank of Messrs. Hobhouse and Co., Bath ; four red Purses with ten Sove- reigns, and one Purse with old Coins.— Whoever will give such information as may lead to the apprehension of the offender or offenders, shall, on conviction and recovery of the whole or part of the said property, receive a Reward of Fifty Pounds, by applying to the said J. Cooke.— Informa- tion to be given to W. Hall, Police Office, Bath. On Sunday night, the 22d instant, between half- past six and half- past eight o'clock, the Dwelling- house of Joseph Hecketh, No. 23, motley- street, Curtain- road, was broken and entered, and the following property Stolen, viz.— A blue great Coat, lined with black silk ; a pair of blue Trousers; a Silver Salt- spoon, marked 4 F. H/; two Silver Tea- spoons, 4 N. H.'; four Shillings in Silver, and two black Coats— Information to be given to James Hanley, consta- ble, Worship- street Office. 1582 POLICE GAZETTE; OR, HUE AND CRY. On Sunday afternoon, the 22d instant, the Dwelling- house of Sarah Frampton, No. T, Vincent'- street. Bethnal- green, was broken and entered, by forcing the back door with some instrument, and the following property Stolen, viz.— Two Sovereigns, two pair of Sheets, marked ' T. B.'; a brown coloured Silk Gown, a small paltcrn bine Gown, a red body of a Gown, a lilac Gown ; four Shifts, one marked ' B.' and one ' S. F.'; two Shirts, one marked ' J. J.'; three short Night- gowns; one lavender Shawl; one white ditto, with a , rose border; two Silver Spoons ' marked 1 A. W.'; a lace Cap, and sundry other articles.— Information to be given to Thomas Garton or William Attfield, at Worship- street Office. On Sunday, the 22d instant, the Dwelling- house of Ellen Barton, No. 3, Cumberland- street, Hackney- road, was broken and entered, and the following property Stolen, viz. — One lavender coloured China Crape Shawl, one primrose coloured ditto; one scarlet middle ditto, with a deep border ; one fawn middle ditto, with rich narrow border ; six Tea- spoons, and a pair of Sugar- tongs, marked ' E. E. M.'; two plain Tea- spoons, two Table ditto, two fluted edge Dessert ditto ; one Mustard- spoon, with gilt bowl, and fluted ; one Caddy- ladle, and two Salt- spoons, plain; a garnet Neck- lace, set with pearls ; Brooch and Ring to match ; a pair of garnet Ear- rings, very large stones; a pair of jet Ear rings, set in chased gold ; a chased gold Lady's Ring, with hair in the centre, and Goldsmith's Hall mark inside ; a chain- work gold Keeper; and eleven yards of light green Gros de Naples, of a superior quality,— Information to be given to William Attfield or Thomas Waters, at Worship- street Offiee. * On Sunday evening, the 22d instant, between eight and street. Star- corner. Bermondsey, was entered, by means of skeleton keys, during the temporary absence of the family, and the following articles were Stolen therefrom, viz,— One silver Watch, one olive Great Coat, one olive Lady's Cloak, and about seven Sovereigns. On Sunday afternoon, the 22d instant, between one and four o'clock, the House of Mr. James Turner, No. 85, Beth- nal- rrecn- road, was entered, during the absence of the family, Mid the follow ing articles were Stolen therefrom, viz. — A musical Snuff- box, ebony case; a metal Watch, makers' names ' Wakeling and Garrard, No. 2GS7,' with a gold Seal attached; six silver Tea- spoons, and one ditto Gravy- spoon, marked * S. S. T.'; four silver Sali- spoons, plain ; one ditto Mustard- spoon with gilt bowl, a ditto Cream- jus with legs ; one ditto half- pint ditto, marked ' S S. T.;' two'ditto Table- spoons, and two small ditto Tea- spoons, ' A. W.'; one ditto ditto, ' S. S. T.'; a pearl Ring, set with grey hair : two ditto Brooches ; a mourning Brooch, marked ' Cain and Ansel)'; a ditto King, set in black; a silver gilt Coral with six bells, two gold Brooches, some loose Pearls ; one mourning Ring, marked ' Ann Turner,' motto ' She is gone, but not forgotten'; two stout chased belched Rings, and six Shifts and two Pet- ticoats.— The entrance was effected from the rear of the house, through the back parlour window. On Sunday evening, the 22d instant, between eight and nine o'clock, the House of Mr. Kew, Castle Ride, White- chapel, was entered, by means of skeleton keys, and the following articles Stolen therefrom, viz.— Two child's Night- shirts, marked ' W. K.'; two pair of top Boots, two black body Coals, a light ditto, a white Counterpane; two Boy's Shirts, marked ' Kew '; three Men's ditto, ' W. K.'; two pair of patent cord Breeches, two Neckerchiefs marked ' W. K.', five Collars, three Table- cloths, two Gowns, two — Shifts, two flannel Petticoats, three pair of worsted Stock- ings, and one new red cotton Shawl. On Wednesday night, the 18th instant, the House of John Thomas Christopher, No. 6, Plummer's- row, Whitechapel, was broken and entered, by means of false keys, and the following articles were Stolen therefrom, viz.— A Gold Brooch, with hair; a ditto Ring, with five cut coral stones; a coral Necklace, consisting of six rows ; a new dark frock Coat, lined witlf silk ; a black close- bodied Coat, a pair of black Trousers, a new velvet Waistcoat, a black cloth ditto, five silk Handkerchiefs, and four wine Glasses ; also five Shillings in copper monies. On Monday night, the 23d instant, between eight and nine o'clock, the House of Mr. Purday, No. 45, High Hot- born, was broken and entered, and the following property Stolen therefrom, viz.— Ten Sovereigns, in a red morocco purse, with common clasp. A tin Cash- box, containing ten pounds in gold and silver; a bill for ten pounds, due the 13th February 1832; a promissory note, for one hundred pounds, from Thomas Purday to Z T. Purday ; a rcceipt for twenty- one pounds twelve shillings and fourpence, paid to Messrs. Goulding and Co.. on Nov. 4th 1831, signed by Rotherham ; a paid acceptance, Thomas Preston on Z. T Purday, for twenty pounds; a ditto ditto, H. Wrede on Z. T. Purday. for fifty pounds ; an acceptance of Mr. R. Sewell, of Holt, in Norfolk, for ten pounds; an order from Mr. Elliott, of Tunbridge- wells, to receive eleven pounds sixteen shillings, at Messrs. Masterman's, after the 25th instant; and various other papers. Also, a brown surtout Coat; seven silver Tea- spoons, marked ' Susan ' in written WAR OFFICE, A List and Description of 1 NAME. CORPS. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. RICHARD GAD, of the parish of Drayton- in- Hales, in the county of Salop, stands charged, on the information of an Accomplice, with having Stolen a Sheep — He is a Chair- maker by trade, between forty and fifty years of age, about five feet six inches high, has light brown hair, pale face, no whiskers, and stoops a little in the shoulders. He Absconded from Drayton aforesaid, on the 25th of November last.— Whoever will apprehend or cause to be apprehended and lodged in safe custody the said RICHARD GAD, shall, oo conviction, receive Five Guineas Reward, and be paid all reasonable travelling expenses, on application to Mr. Holt, Governor of the Poor of the said parish; the said Mr. Holt reserving to himself the power of apportioning the said Re- ward between contending claimants, where more thau one shall be concerned in the apprehension, or of deciding to which of them it shall belong. Stopped, supposed to be Stolen, on Friday evening, the 20th instant, in the possession of THOMAS COLLIER, at Uxbridge. a Dark Chesnut cart Mare, aged, about filtcen bauds high, bald laced, near hind leg white to the hock, full mane and tail, and inclined to be silvery. Also, a strong Cart, the body painted blue, red wheels and shafts, with the name of ' John Blakeman, Lichfield, Staffordshire,' painted on the body. Stolen, on Monday night, the 23rd instant, or early the following morniog, from out of the Stable of Mr. Henry Baker, of the parish or Worth, in the county of Sussex, Farmer, a Bay Mare, rising four years old, fifteen hands high. has a little white on the off hind foot, near the fetlock, and knobs upon each hind leg. Also a Brown Pony, thirteen hands high, blind, about eight years old, with cut tail.— A Reward of Five Pounds will be paid, on the conviction of the offender or offenders.— Information to be given at the Police Office, Union Hall. Stolen or Strayed, from Stcyne Barn Yard, in the parish of Biustead, ou Wednesday night, the 18th instant, or early the following morning, a Black Nag Mare, aged, with switch tail, small star in the forehead, and the letter' I' cut very large on the near side.— If Stolen, whoever will give such information as may lead to the conviction of the offender and recovery of the said Mare, shall receive Ten Guineas Reward from the Holybourn Association, and a further Re- ward of Ten Guincas from D. Stolen, on Sunday night, the 15th instant, or early on the following morning, from a Stable, at Guist, the property of Joshua Gay, a Chesnut Gelding, about seven years old. WHITEHALL, January 10th, 1832. Whereas it hath been humbly represented unto the King, that, on Saturday, the 24th day of December last, upwards of One Thousand Pitmen riotously assembled together at or about Waldridge Colliery, near Chester- le- Street, in the county of Durham, and, while from twenty to thirty Men were at work in the Mine, stopped the engine necessarily kept going in order to pump out the water, and then threw large iron tubs, wooden cisterns, corves, and other articles, down the shaft; by which stoppage of the engine, throwing down of tubs, & c., the aforesaid Workmen were placed in the utmost danger; His Majesty, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the persons concerned in the Felony before men- tioned, is hereby pleased to promise His most gracious Par- don to any one of them ( except the person or persons who actually committed any of the aforesaid acts) who shall dis- cover his Accomplice or Accomplices therein, so that he, she, or they, may be apprehended and convicted thereof. Fildersly and Thurland, ( of 18 Wharf, City Basin), between Compton- street, John- street, and the Basin, City — road, the following articles, viz— Nine gilt Frames; a Book, on Paintings, & c., and the Portrait of a Lady, in a gilt frame, both wrapped together in brown paper; two gilt Frames, eight inches by ten ; a Painting, the same size, of an- Alpine Mastiff; a quantity of small Sketches in oil painting; and about fifty mahogany Panels, of different sizes, with, two or three dirty shirts put in to protect the frames.
