io STATEMENT OF THE NUMBER OF ACRES N° 12.— Dioceses of CORK AND ROSS. A STATEMENT of the number of Acres belonging to the Church in the Dioceses of Cork and Ross in Ireland; distinguishing such as form part of Glebe lands, and distinguishing such as are uncultivated, as far as such statement can be made; The See Lands or Estate of the Bishopricks of Cork and Ross, according to a survey made of them in 1773 or 1774, by order of Dr. Isaac Mann, then Lord Bishop of the said Dioceses, amounts to Lands around the Episcopal residence The Mensal Lands of the Bishop - Total of the See Lands of Cork and Ross in statute acres - - - It is impossible to ascertain the proportion of uncultivated Land, as a very con- siderable part of these Estates are situated in the remote south- western extremity of the country, and are intermixed with mountain, bog and rock in many parts wholly incapable of cultivation, while the dense population of the district has lad to the laborious, but expensive culture of such spots as are found capable of making a return of food ; and in all improveable parts, these Church lands are as well cul- tivated as the adjacent estates of Laymen. The Glebe lands belonging to the different parishes in the Dioceses of Cork and Ross, as they appear in the terriers of said Glebes, lodged in the Registry of said Dioceses, amount to 1,637 acres, but of these Glebes, many have been newly acquired by the operation of the Funds of the Board of First Fruits in Ireland, and are subject to rents amounting nearly to their present value. The Glebes are for the most part cultivated - -- -- -- -- A part of the lands of the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem, lying in and near the city of Cork, were granted by Charles the Second to the Bishop of Cork, and his successors, for the purpose of establishing and supporting a Catechist and Choir in the Cathedral Church of St. Finbarry, Cork, to which purpose the rents thereof are duly applied as far as they extend, the Chapter supplying the deficiency. These lands amount, as nearly as the same can be ascertained, to about 25 acres - Total - - - Acres. 22,620 15 120 2 2,755 1,637 25 24> 4i7 J. Heard, Regr. Thomas, Cork and Ross.
