308 APPENDIX TO REPORT OF SELECT COMMITTEE, & c. to the said mayor, sheriffs, commons and citizens of the city of Dublin, and their suc- cessors, that the mayor and the rest of the common council of the said city, shall have authority, from time to time, to elect such and so many fit persons ( not exceeding four) to be coroners of the city and county of the city of Dublin, as to the said mayor and the rest of the common council aforesaid, for the time being, shall seem fit; and that every person and persons so as aforesaid to be nominated and elected, shall be coroner and coroners of us, our heirs and successors, of our said city and county of the city of Dublin, to continue in their said office or offices aforesaid, during the pleasure of the mayor and the rest of the common council aforesaid, for the time being, first taking the corporal oath well and faithfully to execute said office, and the other aforesaid corporal oath before the mayor of the said city of Dublin, and that the mayor of said city for the time being shall, by these presents, have power to administer said oaths : And further, for us, our heirs and successors, We do, of our special grace, certain knowledge and mere motion, give, grant and confirm to the said mayor, sheriffs, commons and citizens of the said city of Dub- lin, and their successors for ever, that there be a guild mercatory of the staple within the said city and county of the city of Dublin, consisting of one mayor and two constables, and such number of merchants of the said city and county of the said city, as to the said mayor and two constables, for the time being, shall seem fit; and that the lord mayor, aldermen and the rest of the common council of the said city, and the major part of them, may elect and choose at their will and pleasure, once and every year, from year to year, for ever, out of the said aldermen or burgesses, commons or citizens of the said city of Dublin, one mayor of the staple and two constables of the said guild mercatory of the staple in the city and county of the city of Dublin; and that the said mayor of the staple and constables, or the mayor and one of the constables of the said guild or mercatory of the staple for the time being, shall have power and authority to accept and receive recognization and recognizations of the staple debts and dues; and further, to use, do and exercise all and every thing and things, and the same to certify in our chancery, which to the office of mayor and constables, or guild mercatory do in any wise belong, according to the form and effect of the statute in that case made and provided, and in as ample manner and form as the mayor and constables in our city of Dublin, or the mayor or constables of the staple in any other city within our said kingdom of Ireland, do and use, or might and were accustomed in any wise heretofore to do and use ; and that for the better government of the said staple mercatory, the mayor and constables and merchants of the staple for the time being, and their successors, in their assemblies and meetings may, from time to time, make, ordain and appoint acts, ordinances and bye- laws, and use, do and exercise all other matters which to the said mayor, constables and merchants of the guild or staple in our city of Dublin do or shall appertain, and in as ample manner and form as the mayor and constables of the staple and merchants of the guild mercatory in our city of Dublin have done and used, or were accustomed in any wise to do or use, and for us, our heirs and successors, We do nominate and appoint Sir Michael Creagh, knight, to be the modern and first mayor of the staple, and Peter Shee and Anthony Piercy, merchants, to be the first modern constables of the staple of said city, to continue in their offices until the next feast of St. Michael the Archangel; provided the said modern mayor and constables, and those who shall hereafter be mayor and constables of the said city, and each of them, take as well the corporal oath of well and truly executing their said offices, as the other aforesaid oaths before the mayor of the said city for the time being, before they shall exercise said offices, to which mayor, for the time being, We do, for us, our heirs and successors, give power to administer said oaths: And that every person here- after to be elected mayor or constables of the staple, shall continue in that office for one year, unless in the mean time he be removed for misconduct by the common council, or the major part of them, by whom, for such cause, We will that they shall be amoveable: And further, of our special grace, certain knowledge and mere motion, for the maintenance of the said city and the public business thereof, We have given, granted and confirmed, and by these presents, for us, our heirs and successors, do give, grant and confirm to the said mayor, sheriffs, commons and citizens of the said city of Dublin, and their successors, all and singular, manors, castles, houses, edifices, tofts, bottoms, gardens, lands, tenements and hereditaments, rents, reversions, goods and chattels, and ensigns of magistracy which the mayor, sheriffs, and commons and citizens of the said city of Dublin, at any time before the said judgment was made, had used or enjoyed, or ought to have held used or enjoyed, by reason or pretence of any charters, grants, letters patents, or in whatsoever other legal manner, right, custom and prescription or title the same were heretofore legally had and used; to have and to hold, all and singular the premises so granted and confirmed to the said mayor, sheriffs, commons and citizens of the city of Dublin, and their successors for ever, to be held of us, our heirs and successors, by the rents and services thereout due and accustomed, and particularly for the rent of 421, sterling, to be paid yearly, on the feast of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virg in Mary, and St. Michael the Archangel, in equal portions, being the rent heretofore payable to our Lord the King, for the lands, tenements and customs called the Tholsol Ferries ; and further, of our more ample special grace, cer- tain knowledge and mere motion, for the better support and maintenance of the said city and the magistracy thereof, and for repairing the walls, pavements, ports, bridges, wharfs and other affairs and public works of the said city, and the franchises thereof, We have given, granted, confirmed, and for us, our heirs and successors, do give, grant and confirm to the said mayor, sheriffs, commons and citizens of the said city, and their successors for ever, all and every so many such the same and the like tolls, wharfage, anchorage, murage, stallage, passage, gatage, paveage, pontage and picarage, and so many such the same
