• ON THE LOCAL TAXATION OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN, 319 mayor of the said city for the time being, before they or any of them respectively be per- mitted to exercise said offices or employments, to which mayor of the said city for the time being, We do give and grant, by these presents, full power and authority to give and admi- nister said several oaths, as well to the said John Kearney as to all and every person and persons in or to the said offices or employments, in form aforesaid, named and appointed, or to be hereafter named or appointed, or to any of their deputy or deputies for the time being; provided always, and by these presents, for us, our heirs and successors, We do give and reserve to our said deputy general and chief governor or governors of us, our heirs and successors of our kingdom of Ireland, for the time being, power from time to time of approving of every recorder, town clerk or prothonotary hereafter to be elected within our said city, and that no recorder, town clerk or prothonotary to be elected within said city, or any of them, shall exercise their offices respectively, until such recorder, town clerk and prothonotary shall be approved of by the chief governor or governors of us, our heirs and successors of our said kingdom of Ireland for the time being, by writing under his hand: We also will, ordain and declare, for us, our heirs and successors, that the said modern mayor, and the mayor of the city of Dublin for the time being, shall be clerk of the market of the said city of Dublin, to exercise said office by himself, or his sufficient deputy or deputies, provided such deputy or deputies take his or their corporal oaths respectively, well and faithfully to execute said office, to which mayor for the time being, We do, by these presents, for us, our heirs and successors, give power to administer said oaths; and that the mayor of the said city, for the time being, shall have the assize of bread within said city: And further, We will, and by these presents, for us, our heirs and successors, do ordain and appoint, that for ever hereafter there shall be in and through the said city of Dublin, and the liberties thereof, a sea port, and a port for the departure and arrival of ships, boats and other vessels, and for the loading and unloading of wares and merchandize, with all the privileges to such port belonging, which port shall be called and named the Port of Dublin: And further, We will by these presents, for us, our heirs and successors, do give and grant to the said mayor, sheriffs, commons and citizens of the city of Dublin, and their successors, to the use and behoof, all goods and chattels of felons, felons de se, goods of fugitives, waifes and strays, and wrecks of the sea, happening or hereafter to happen, or being within the said city of Dublin, the liberties and franchises thereof: And further, of our more abundant special grace, certain knowledge and mere motion, We will, and by these presents, for us, our heirs and succesors, do grant and confirm to the said mayor, sheriffs, commons and citizens of the said city of Dublin and their successors, and also by these presents, for us, our heirs and successors, do ordain, establish and declare, that there thall be at all times hereafter, in our said city and county of the city of Dublin, two burgesses of the Parliament, of us, our heirs and successors, to be held for our said kingdom: And further, by these presents, for us, our heirs and successors, We do ordain, establish and declare, that the mayor, aldermen, and the rest of the common council of the said city of Dublin, or the major part of them for the time being, and their successors, shall and may, by virtue of a precept, mandate or process, upon a writ of us, our heirs and successors, for the election of burgesses of Parliament in that behalf duly directed, have power and authority to elect and nominate two discreet men of the said city for the time being, to be burgesses of Parliament of us, our heirs and suc- cessors, for our said county of the city of Dublin; and the said burgesses so elected at the costs and charges of the mayor, sheriffs, commons and citizens of the said city of Dublin, and their successors for the time being, to send to the Parliament of us, our heirs and successors, wheresoever it may be then held, in the same manner and form as in other places, cities and boroughs of our said kingdom of Ireland, or was usual and cus- tomary ; which burgesses so elected and named, we will, shall be present and await and attend in any Parliament of us, our heirs and successors, of the charge and expense of the said mayor, sheriffs, commons and citizens of the said city for the time being, during the time such Parliament may be held; and that the burgesses so elected, may in every Par- liament of us, our heirs or successors, have, as well affirmative as negative, votes, and do and execute all and every other thing there, as any other burgesses of Parliament of us, our heirs and successors, can or may have, do and execute: And further. We have given, granted and confirmed, ordained and declared, and by these presents, for us, our heirs and successors, do give, grant, confirm, ordain and declare, and also direct, and strictly for us, our heirs and successors, command all the sheriffs, officers and ministers of us, our heirs and successors, whomsoever of the said city or county of the city of Dublin for the time being, to whom any writ of us, our heirs and successors for the burgesses of Parliament, within our said city and county of our said city of Dublin, shall at any time hereafter be directed, that every such sheriff, officer and minister to whom any such writ or writs as aforesaid shall hereafter be directed, shall make his precept to the mayor, aldermen, and the rest of the common council of the said city of Dublin for the time being, for the election and return of such two burgesses, according to the form and effect of said writ or writs, and that these our letters patent shall be, as well to the said sheriffs and other officers of the city and county of the city of Dublin, as to the common council of the said, a sufficient warrant and discharge in this behalf: And further, for the better rule and government of the commons, citzens and inhabitants within our said city, the suburbs and franchises thereof, and of other persons resorting to the same, of our special grace, certain knowledge and mere motion, We have given and granted, and by these presents, for us, our heirs and successors, do give and grant to the said mayor, sheriffs, commons and citizens of the said city of Dublin, and their successors, that the 549. 4 H modern
