• ON THE LOCAL TAXATION OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN, 319 citizens of the said city of Dublin and their successors, that it shall and may be lawful for the said mayor of the said city of Dublin, for the time being, from time to time, to make and appoint, as often as shall be convenient for him, one of the aldermen of the said city, for the time being, to be deputy mayor of the said city, and to do and execute all and every thing which to the said office of mayor of this said city doth or ought to belong, and to continue in the said office during the sickness or absence of the said mayor of the said city, for the time being; and also that it shall and may be lawful for the recorder of the said city for the time being, to make and appoint from time to time, as often to him shall seem meet, one honest and discreet man, skilled in the laws of England and Ireland, and who shall be a barrister, to be deputy of the said recorder of said city, to do and execute all and every thing which to the office of deputy recorder of the said city, doth or ought to belong, to continue in the said office during the pleasure of the recorder of the said city for the time being; provided always, and We do by these presents strictly command, that the said deputy mayor and deputy recorder, so hereafter to be deputed and appointed, before they or either of them be permitted to execute their respective offices, shall take the several corporal oaths for the due execution of their duties respectively, and the several other corporal oaths aforesaid, before the mayor of said city of Dublin, for the time being, to which mayor for the time being, We do, for us, our heirs and successors, by these pre- sents, give and grant full power and authority to give and administer said oaths: And fur- ther, We will, and by these presents, for us, our heirs and successors, do grant and confirm to the said mayor, sheriffs, commons and citizens of said city of Dublin, and their suc- cessors, that they and their successors for ever hereafter, can and may have within the said city, one sword bearer, who shall be called the sword bearer of the said city, shall be nomi- nated, elected and appointed by the mayor aldermen and the rest of the common council of the said city, and their successors, for the time being, or the major part of them, and shall, from time to time, attend upon the said mayor of the said city, for the time being, and shall continue in that office during his good behaviour, and be amoveable for misconduct by the mayor and the rest of the common council of the said city, or the major part of them, which officer, called sword bearer, can and may bear and carry before the mayor of the said city, a sword sheathed and gilt with gold, and wheresoever within the said city, the limits, liber- ties and precincts of the same: And also, by these presents, We do assign, nominate and make Thomas Mullan, gentleman, the present sword bearer, during his good conduct, who, and every other sword bearer in said city, before he can exercise his office, shall take the aforesaid corporal oath of fealty, and the oath of well and truly executing said office, before the mayor of the said city of Dublin, to which mayor We do give power to administer said oaths : And that the mayor of the said city and his successors mayors of the same, for the time being, may bear before him or them successively, the cap of maintenance, in the same manner as the mayor of our city of London doth; and that the mayor of the said city of Dublin, for the time, can and may wear a collar of S. S. and that the said mayor of the said city, for the time being, shall be and be called and reputed, during his mayoralty, lord mayor, and his wife, during his mayoralty, lady mayoress; and further, have granted and confirmed, and by these presents, for us, our heirs and successors, with the advice and consent aforesaid, We do grant and confirm to the said mayor, sheriffs, commons and citizens of the said city of Dublin, and their successors, that they and their successors can and may have and hold a court of record, in any convenient place within the said city of Dublin, to be held before the mayor and sheriffs of the county of the said city, and their successors, for the time being, from week to week, on every Monday and Thursday throughout the year, and that in said court they can and may hold, and by complaint being made in the same, dispose of all and all manner of actions, real, personal and mixed, and other actions, surety and demands whatsoever, as well real as personal, and mixed, of what- soever nature, kind or species they may be, howsoever arising or happening, within the said city, and the liberties and precincts thereof, or to arise, grow, or be levied, affirmed, done, prosecuted, heard, determined and duly demanded for execution, to all intents and pur- poses, and in as ample manner, and as fully, freely and entirely, and by the same process as in any court of record heretofore, before any mayor and sheriffs of the said city of Dublin were used: And further, We do grant, confirm and give licence to these presents, for us, our heirs and successors, to the said mayor, commons and citizens of the said city of Dublin, and their successors, that the mayor and sheriffs of the city of Dublin for the time being, and their successors, may in our said court, to be held before the said mayor and sheriffs, have power to correct and punish all and singular, the officers, clerks and ministers of the said court, and also all other persons whomsoever offending against our said court, for their default, contempt and negligence, or other offence, howsoever perpe- trated, in our said court, by reasonable fine or imprisonment, or by any other lawful ways and means whatsoever; and if any man impanelled and summoned on ajury to try an issue, do not appear before the mayor and sheriffs of the said city of Dublin, that then the man so impanelled and summoned making default, shall forfeit the issue upon all things returned, or to be returned to them, in such and the like manner as man impanelled and summoned in our said city of Dublin, for the like issue, in the court of record of the said city, have at any time heretofore forfeited and ought to forfeit; and also, that such issues forfeited and to be forfeited, shall be levied by the ministers of the said city of Dublin, to the use of the mayor, sheriffs, commons and citizens of the said city of Dublin, and their successors: And further, of our special grace, certain knowledge and mere motion, for us, our heirs and successors, we do grant and confirm to the said mayor, sheriffs, commons and citizens of the said city of Dublin, and also ordain and appoint that there shall be, at all times r/ in ' hereafter
