300 APPENDIX TO REPORT OF SELECT COMMITTEE, & c. said office, shall take the ' aforesaid several corporal oaths before the chief governor or governors of our kingdom, of our court of Exchequer of our said kingdom, for the time being, to whom respectively, for us, our heirs and successors, We do give power and authority to administer said oaths ; and that after said oaths is so made, he can and may execute said office of mayor of said city, in the place of such mayor so deceased or amoved from his office, for the remainder of that year, and from thence until another alderman of the said city for the time being, be in due form elected, perfected and sworn into the office of mayor of the said city, according to the ordinances and constitutions in these pre- sents declared : And further, We will, and by these presents, for us, our heirs and succes- sors, do grant and confirm to the said mayor, sheriffs, commons and citizens of the said city of Dublin, and their successors, that the mayor, aldermen and the rest of the common council of the said city, for the time being, or the major part of them, from time to time for ever, shall ever after the date of these presents, have full power and autho- rity yearly and every year, on the second Friday after Easter to elect and nominate two of the more honest and discreet burgesses, citizens or commons of said city, to be sheriffs of the said city, to be sheriffs of the said city and county of the city of Dublin aforesaid, for one entire year, next after the feast of Saint Michael thence next following, and that the persons so as aforesaid elected and nominated to be sheriffs of the city of Dublin aforesaid, and the county of the said city of Dublin, and each of them shall take, as well his corporal oath, well and faithfully to execute said office, in and by all things belonging to that office, as also the other corporal oath hereinbefore mentioned and expressed, at the feast of Saint Michael the Archangel, next after such his nomination and election, before the mayor of the said city, for the time being, to which mayor of the city of Dublin aforesaid, for the time being, We do give and grant power and authority by these presents to administer said oath ; and that the persons so elected, after said oath is so made, can and may execute the office of sheriff of the city of Dublin aforesaid, and of the county of the said city of Dublin, for one entire year, in manner and form aforesaid, and from thence until the other burgesses, citi- zens or commons of the said city of Dublin be in form elected, perfected and sworn into the said offices of sheriffs, according to the ordinances in these presents declared; We also will, and by these presents, for us, our heirs and successors, do grant and confirm to the said mayor, sheriffs, commons and citizens of the said city of Dublin, and their succes- sors, that if it shall at any time happen, that the sheriffs of the said city, and county of the city of Dublin, or either of them, shall within the year after their being sworn into the said office of sheriffs, die, or in any manner vacate their offices by reason of any provision in these presents expressed, or be removed from their offices for any reasonable cause, which sheriffs and each of them, for misconduct in that office, We will, shall be amoveable at the pleasure of the mayor, aldermen and the rest of the common council of the said city of Dublin, for the time being, or the major part of them; that then and so often it shaft and may be lawful for the mayor and the rest of the common council of the said city of Dublin, or the major part of them, within the space of ten days next after such death, decease, vacancy or removal, to assemble themselves, or the major part of them in the said city of Dublin, and their elect one or two of the burgesses, citizens or commons of the said city, to be sheriffs of the said city and county of the said city of Dublin, in the place or places of him or them so deceased or removed from that office; and that he or they so nominated and elected sheriff or sheriffs of the said city and county of the city of Dublin aforesaid, before they execute their said offices, shall take the several corporal oaths afore- said, before the mayor of the said city, to which mayor for the time being, We do give power and authority to give and administer the same; and that after they have taken such oath, he or they can and may execute the office of sheriff or sheriffs of the said city and county of the city of Dublin, in the place or places of him or them so deceased or removed from that office, for the remainder of that year, and until one or two other burgesses, citizens or commons of the said city, into said office of sheriffs of the said city and county of the said city of Dublin, be in due form elected, perfected and sworn, according to the ordi- nances in these presents expressed and declared, and so as'often as the case shall so happen ; and that the sheriffs for the time being, after they have fulfilled their said offices, shall be burgesses of the said city during their natural lives, unless by reason of any clause in these presents they be removed from their said offices : And further, We will, and by these presents for us, our heirs and successors, do grant and confirm to the said mayor, sheriffs, commons and citizens of the city of Dublin, and their successors, that the said aldermen and free burgesses in these presents named and elected, and these hereafter to be named and elected, and each of them shall take respectively, their corporal oaths in all things well and faithfully to execute their said offices, and also the other corporal oath to be made and taken by the mayor of the said city of Dublin, for the time being, before the mayor of the said city, for the time being, and that after such oath so made, they and each of them may hold and exercise such office or offices of alderman and burgesses of said city, during the natural life and lives of them and each of them; to which mayor, for the time being, by these presents, we do give and grant power to give and administer said oath; and if it shall happen that any of the aldermen of the said city of Dublin shall die or vacate his office, by reason of any provision in these presents expressed, or be deprived of his said office for any reasonable cause, which aldermen and every of them for misconduct in their said offices We will, shall be amoveable at the pleasure of the mayor and aldermen and the rest of the common council of the said city, or the major part of them, for the time being, then We will and grant, that the mayor and aldermen and the rest of the common council of the said city, or the major part of them can and may, in our said city of Dublin, within ten days after
