• ON THE LOCAL T A X A T I O N OF THE C I T Y OF D U B L I N ,319 IT is proposed to abolish the hospitals at Newgate and Smithfield Penitentiary, and to remove all the Sick to the Male and Female Hospital at Richmond Bridewell; and the following sums we conceive would nearly cover the expense. 1 Resident surgeon 1 Assistant d°, and apothecary 1 Hospital steward 1 Assistant d° 1 Female Superintendent 1 Assistant d° Medicines and necessaries from Hall, to be compounded by the assistant surgeon - Matron, City Marshalsea and Sheriff's Prison - Apothecaries"] assistant^ N. B.— There is a cart now in the Bridewell for which a horse is hired, and a very trifling expense ( if any) would be added by the purchase of a horse, who could do all the work of Bridewell and Hospital. An hospital room might be continued at City Marshalsea, and the Sheriff's Prison, to be attended by the above medical staff. Sixteen rooms of prison accommodation would be gained by this plan.
