286 APPENDIX TO REPORT OF SELECT COMMITTEE, & c. Appendix N" 12. ACCOUNT of the Expenses for Medical Attendance at Newgate, Giltspur- street, and Borough Compter, for one Year. His Majesty's Gaol of Newgate, 3d May 1823. • THE Expenses for medical attendance at Newgate, Giltspur- street, and Borough Compter including medicines, is £. 500. per year: the three prisons attended by the same surgeon. The average number of prisoners in Newgate last year was 304; but the total number committed here was 2,185. jno Wontner, Keeper. Appendix N° 13. RETURN of the Number of Prisoners committed to the Cold Bath Fields Prison, during the last Year, and of the Surgeon's Salary. House of Correction, Cold Bath Fields, 3d May 1823. THE Number of prisoners committed to the Cold Bath Fields prison, during the last year, is 4,398; and the average number of prisoners daily in the said prison, 596. Surgeon's salary - - - - - -£. 150 A gratuity for long service .... 50 £. 200 per annum. Out of which, the surgeon provides all medicines. I hereby certify that the above account is correct. B.— The usual prison diet, to such of the patients in the infirmary as were allowed the same, either on full or reduced allowance of such food, is not included in the above account of infirmary expenses.
